It’s funny how much aviation and sailing are intertwined. This is very similar to using an E6B
Sure is. Example to point was that the great sailor, sir Francis Chichester, was actually an aviator who gave flying when he was mistakenly diagnosed with cancer; his own aircraft was a Gypsy Moth and he retained that name on each of his four yachts. His role, during WW-II was to train aviator in navigating over open ocean. A huge amount in common although calculating drift is a bit more complicated in a yacht.
