In this market profile trading session, Richard teaches the failed auction strategy, derived from volume profile analysis. With this trade strategy he emphasizes the importance of using shorter time frames for your day trading execution, which can offer you better opportunities to access larger context trade ideas.
This example uses the German 10 Year Bund. A poor value area had formed in a prior day, giving us the expectation of potential to trade through the a poor VA to establish a fair price. The trade setup developed first with an open drive up to a VAH coinciding with a ledge and small wedge pattern. The Bund peaked above and failed to hold the auction above the first hour's initial balance. We saw a move back into the initial balance, adding further to the downside expectation.
With the larger profile strategies and technical landscape providing context, we needed the shorter time frame to provide a day trading entry point. Had we waited for a 30min TPO close back inside the initial balance to confirm to trade, most of the move would have already been missed. However, the 5min chart gave us the clue with a shooting star candle pattern.

I traded this today. Price tried to go above high of Value area then gave multiple long wicks and moved lower. Tried to make two more failed lower highs. Then went to low of value area. It is an awesome setup and something I can actually understand
