I’ve been waiting for this video for a very long time… When I first moved to America I didn’t quite understand how systemic racism works, I was still living in a bubble that white privilege provides… For a long time I thought that the world was a much fairer place than it actually is… but once I moved to the United States I learned about how discrimination can be found everywhere: criminal justice, education, health care, employment, and the list goes on…
As a white woman, I am not here to tell POC how to fight their battles or how to live in their own skin. It’s easy to forget about racism when we’re privileged & we don’t face it every day. We need to acknowledge the reality, and do what we can do to help: Hear you, see you, & stand with you. We’ve told the black community how to fight their own battles, how to live their lives, for far too long. We’ve welcomed their talent, ideas, knowledge, culture but then pushed them to the side. It’s time we all do what’s in our hands to help change an old model of society that’s completely broken.
As a singer, when I got offered to sing this song, I was scared of how people would receive it, I’m not gonna lie. But then I thought: there is no better way to show my support than using my music to help get the message across. But that’s not enough, because as I said, I’m not here to teach the black community how to fight their battles, so for this reason we also decided to donate ALL the profits to associations dedicated to help the black community:
