My year-end personal pen collection comprises of exactly 70 pens today. I compiled a run-down of all that I currently own (after selling/gifting 40+ pens over the last nearly 2 years). I own : 20 Auroras (88, Optima, Talentum, Ambienti, Duca, Duo Cart, Internazionale, Hastil, vintage 88/98, Ipsilon, Style) 12 Stipulas (Etruria, Florentia, Novecento, DaVinci) 6 Sailors (3 KoP, 3 PG standard) 5 Pilot (E95s, Falcon, Silvern, Justus 95, Custom Urushi) 5 Delta 4 Platinum (1 resin 3776, 3 celluloid 3776) 3 each of OMAS and Montegrappa 1 each of Scribo (Feel) and Santini (Nonagon ebonite) 2 Taccia (Miyabi Winter’s Breath, Miyabi Aka-Tamenuri) 2 Tibaldis (Modello 60, Iride celluloid) 2 Waterman (Carene, Edson) 2 Sheaffers (PFM IV & V) 2 Kaweco (Dia2, Elite) …. I have a box of many vintage Esterbrook pens and assorted nib units). It’s a very separate haul that I never counted as part of my main pen collection.
I have a ridiculously large fountain pen collection and more than I can possibly use, but I enjoy looking at them and that brings me joy, so I'm keeping them for now. I do sell a handful a year and give a few away, but I prefer to weed gradually instead of all at once. I did offload a bunch out of financial necessity some years ago. That hurt because I didn't want to do it, but I survived. I only saved one pen from that batch and I'm happy with my choice.
That was fun! Thanks for the tour of a nice, reasonablly-sized collection of beautiful pens. It's easy to see that you like brown ones. Good for you! I enjoyed the pace you took us through with just enough detail to know what the pen was, why you like it and what is special about it. I would enjoy a similar look at other pen collections, but I'm afraid they might drone on too long. Here, in a nutshell is my collection: I love Faber Castell pens, but can only afford two: a silver Hexo and a black and silver Ambition (I got them both on sale). They both have F-C converters that DID NOT come with the pen. (angry face) The pens I really lust over are the Graph von Faber-Castell collection especially the Classic. My two favorites are the sterling silver Classic and the ebony Classic. At 70 years old I can assure you that I will never have the money to get any GvF-C pens. Thankfully Hong Dian makes a beautiful line of three different models of the Classic in their 1866 pens. They are beautiful and they tried to improve upon the original with new feeds and other little things. So I don't consider them a knockoff. And they write wonderfully with a jucy, bouncy nib. I also love my four Jinhao 92s. These are inspired by the GvF-C Bently Collection. In one way Jinhao DID improve on the original -- that was by adding a nice comfortable grip section. I have to say I like the overall look of the 92 better than the original GvF-C becaus of that. And even a 60 times what I paid for my Jinhaos, the GvF-C still have a stainless steel nib. Amazing. I have a few other pens -- a Miji, two Hong Dian M2a and a Monteverde Ritma ( all of which I love). I tend to favor metal pens and if they have a lovely wood section I like that too. In total I have 21 pens. My self-imposed limit is 22. I would like to get another Ritma, the one with a wallnut section with a Omni-flex nib. I also have some dip pen nibs and holders for my caligraphy. That's about it. I'm happy with what I have. I love that every pen I have I can use as an edc and not have to worry about it.
The Faber Castell Hexo really deserves more buzz. I have it in two nib sizes and just love it. It's a better choice than the Lamy AL Safari in my opinion.
I am doing the same thing, going through my collection and deciding which to keep and which to sell. It is tough to do. I think one should go, I write with it and then think I should keep it. An example is the Opus 88 Demonstrator. Love the pen but I don't use it often I have inked it up to see if it fits well in the hamd
I love a collection video! My current collection is out of hand so I am going through my collection and going to be putting a large number up for sale soon, this has inspired me to maybe go through and be even more thorough!
Lovely overview and pens ❤️ I really do have too many pens, I think around 45. But love them too much still, to part with them lol. Have a wonderful Christmas and I hope the cold stays away.
I do have a larger collection with clusters of different color ways and nibs for Benu (7), Lamy Safari/Al Star (12), and Twsbi (9). I may continue occasionally giving away a Lamy, Twsbi, or Platinum Plaisir, etc. out of my collection to newer hobbyists at local meetups and such. I don't have the ambition to drastically sell or reduce mine anytime soon. However, after your thought exercise video, I did stack rank my top 20 pens and that was a difficult and a little surprising at my ultimate decision-making.For example, when choosing between my two Pelikan M600s to make the cut, the vibrant orange won over turquoise-white, even though blues tend to be a favorite color.
I’m of the mindset, “sell everything but your favourites that you love and use regularly.” HOWEVER, having said that, I have a HUGE box of unopened and unused MB inks that I _want_ to sell, but it’s been eight months and I *still* haven’t had the energy to post them online. Even though I live around the corner from a CP kiosk, it just seems like A LOT of work!
I disagree. It sure doesn’t necessarily have to be that way. What you really should avoid doing is getting rid of pens by selling or giving away in a rush to downsize for whatever reason(s), e.g. feeling overwhelmed by the size of the collection. There will be regrets, of course, (even when you plan the cull and go slow), but parting with pens doesn’t mean inevitable remorse in the future. I speak from personal experience, as I’m sure you do from yours.
This lady will buy these fountain pens ALL back. Trust me. And then, she'll do videos on why she bought them back. Let's call it material for future RUclips videos.
I got down to 34 since I found a retailer who buys pens. Distribution: Sailor: 15 Franklin-Christoph: 8 Pilot Parallel: 6 Other: 6 I probably will buy a couple more F-C's and Sailors, to fill out body color selections. That should be it, except maybe the occasional F-C or Sailor that's too beautiful not to buy. Hopefully I can keep within my arbitrary theoretical limit of 36, though it may require dumping some nice pens.
@@ichirofakename Some unsolicited advice here: why not consider saving up to buy an ebonite/urushi KoP (with the B nib), even if it means not buying a single other pen for all of next year, maybe? edit: I’m seeking to max out at a 50 pens limit.
@@sajjadhusain4146 those fancy finishes do nothing for me and are obscenely expensive imo. I'd be more than happy with something bright and multicolored, like the Fika finishes.
@@ichirofakename Oh ok. Fair enough! The Fika (Cup & Saucer) is a good one. As is the translucent green-teal one. And there are a few others that are very nice. I agree totally about the crazy pricing. It’s actually the sole reason I’m holding out on buying one myself. I already have the plain all-black ebonite pen (the other two being the clear demo and the black (pro gear) KoP). I want a colored KoP to be my fourth and final one. And I don’t want another resin bodied KoP. The first edition of the ebonite-urushi models come in seven different solid, unadorned colors. And the newest models have more textured urushi bodies. I find some of them really attractive. Alas, the prices bring me to tears.
I’m confused. Your previous video was titled “I’m selling ALL my pens EXCEPT for 5!”, so are you not selling ALL pens in your collection but those 5 you spoke about in your last video?

Nice collection. I think I have triple that amount and need to curb the pen gluttony. Also need to thin the herd.
Thanks, Carrie! I don't have very many pens. I'll have one more when my Mag600 in black ebonite gets here.
