  • Here's a video of my MTH Y3 cab #2014 taking a trip around the layout. This was another one of my projects. I bought this without any boiler running gear. I was able to get most of the parts for under the boiler shell, from MTH. The front pilot contains Lionel parts that were custom fit to get the job done and the rear trailing truck is Lionel along with some of the brass piping details and modified siderods. I installed a PS3 upgrade kit to round out the build. I really like the Class Y articulates and appreciate the important role that they served in Appalachia and the North East regions. This is another one, that If I can dig up pics, I'll prob make a vid showing the build. This is an awesome smoker and at the right speed, really produces nice smoke rings ;) I wish I had some N&W anthracite hoppers, but the Pennsy ore cars will have to do I guess ;) Thanks for watching!

Now that’s a beautiful locomotive! Love it Brian
What is the wire coming off of the locomotive going under the camera?

Ahh…good question Frank! So that is the heart of my camera car rig! I use different length black zip ties to push the camera car from the loco’s pilot. 😊

Cool Norfolk and Western engine Brian. I use Fastrack so I’m not too familiar with Ross or Gargraves switches. Although I do know it’s a pain to hook up because the third rail separates at switches. Dakman does a tutorial video how to do it. Right of Way actually started out making switches. Guessing those switches Right of Way made can help your layout. Good luck finding a ROW switch though.

Thanks for checking out the vid Hunter! Yep the third rail needs to be hardwired at switches. It works out for yards though, as it makes for a good isolated block. I have all my yard blocks on separate Lionel LCS controls so I don’t have all the parked locos powered while sitting. When running something that’s parked in the yard, I key up the block on the Legacy Cab and roll out of the yard. I’ll keep an eye out for the ROW stuff, but like you said it’ll be tough to find anything from them. Part of the hobby is trying to find things like this :)
