Aaliyah did the snake idea first and Britney and/or her team took the idea. Notice how Britney's video for the song had no snakes in it but 2 weeks after Aaliyah died, they had it on stage for her performance which Aaliyah was gonna perform at too.
That snake idea has been used constantly in film and all visual media. Aaliyah wasn’t the first to do it, it was in From Dusk TIL Dawn even before Aaliyah.

Apparently, My Boo was meant as a duet with Beyonce, instead of with Alicia Keys. Christina Aguilera was co-writer for Miss Independent, and I believe gave the song to Kelly Clarkson, who sounds like Christina on that song

If it was in something else before that means she didn’t come up with it all by herself. The snake around the neck is not uncommon even before Aaliyah. Lots of Arab style of videos also have that same kind of trope.

Aaliyah did the snake idea first and Britney and/or her team took the idea. Notice how Britney's video for the song had no snakes in it but 2 weeks after Aaliyah died, they had it on stage for her performance which Aaliyah was gonna perform at too.
That snake idea has been used constantly in film and all visual media. Aaliyah wasn’t the first to do it, it was in From Dusk TIL Dawn even before Aaliyah.

@@SR-zv5ue I'm talking at that time period in 2001 alone. Belly dancers been using snakes a props for hundreds of years if you wanna take it there. Janet had a snake in one of her videos in the 90s. But in the early 2000s, no other mainstream artist had used snakes at the time until Aaliyah did. Then Britney had a similar outfit and positioning like Aaliyah did in her video. Maybe not Britney herself, but someone on her team was definently inspired.
Tony Turner The 2000s just started, it wasn’t a completely different time period from Janet Jackson and from Dusk till Dawn, it was within a 5 year span, so no you can’t make that claim either that she was the first one to do it around that time. If it hadn’t been done in 10+ years maybe you could make the argument that she was reintroducing the idea but it had been. Also by then hip hop and pop was being heavily inspired by Arab and Indian beats so having a snake charming component was bound to happen in more than one video. Not saying it wasn’t iconic when Aaliyah did it, but saying that Britney copied her was a stretch because it wasn’t her idea first even for that time period.
