      Why did you move away from IPVanish and go to Surfshark? Please give all the reasons if there are more than one. My renewal is July 1, and I may want to make the move, too, depending on your response. Thanks

      @@100vg 1. Speed. 2. IPVanish doesn't work for getting around Netflix geo-blocks and other popular streaming services. 3. No kill switch on Fire TV/Android TV bu they now have that with dedicated separate app. Surfshark updates their apps much more than IPVanish always staying with latest and greatest tech. Seems like IPVanish is always behind the 8-ball and slow to release new features.

    I use Surfshark on Cube 3, Firestick 4k, Ipad mini 5, Mac mini M1, and a Neanderthal PC. Speeds are very good on everything with exception of the PC, which is only 2.00GHz. Your video has helped me to let-go of speed worries on the PC. Really appreciate the work you have done. Thanks

    Some great info. I have used Surfshark for a few years now but have recently changed ISP and thought it was having problems but changed a few settings and also realised I was expecting too much, especially with uploads. I am in UK and there is a huge difference with our upload and download speeds, very few if any ISP in UK offer similar up and download speeds. I am with Vodafone and without VPN get 520 down and 72 ( Advertised speed is 500 down and 68 up, so faster than advertised). With VPN I get 450/460 down and 13/15 up. I also get fast enough speeds on my 4k firestick for 8k streaming

    Great video, I'm using the Firecube 3rd Gen and without VPN I'm getting 400-500 mbps and with VPN 400 on wifi. I have a gig plan so I'm happy

    This subject should be taken into consideration by companies that manufacture streaming devices. I use a VPN on my router instead. I purchased a router with a very strong CPU for this very purpose. Gaming routers are usually the best choice since they generally have faster CPUs.

    Great job as usual. You have 1 GB internet speed , but when you turn the vpn, it drops down to 230ish. So technically, vpn slows it down dramatically...

    • @troypoint
      @troypoint  26 дней назад +8

      Great question. The reduction is not a percent of total speed. There is a point of no return, in other words, if I had 5 Gig Internet speed, I wouldn't get 5X faster speed with VPN activated...it would probably still cap out at what I'm getting in this video. Same if total non-VPN speed was reduced by 50%, it's not going to decrease VPN speed by 50%. Also, as I say in the video, no need for anything over 25-50 Mbps as that's all we need to stream 4K. If you download, that's another story but most people don't do that with their streaming devices.

    I am a Surfshark user. My concern is the fairly infrequent buffering I experience with my Verizon FIOS service while using my FireTV box. It happens with both Kodi and Tubi. I used to suspect ISP throttling but a recent article suggested that ISP's do not throttle. Any ideas or possible explanations would be appreciated by this somewhat IT literate person ...

      Hello, have you tried changing servers in the VPN app and test the different VPN protocols?

  • @TigerG97
    @TigerG97 День назад

    Does using a VPN use more data or the same amount? I ask because I am on a limited amount of data per month right now with my ISP and I don't want to pay for unlimited, yet.
    Also, since TV apps come down to your router and then out to the vpn and back again, doesn't the ISP know what is being delivered to your house? (Thinking about ISP throttling or if you are using an unverified service?)

    Only complaint about VPN is they don’t let you download third party apps while they are on

    • @troypoint
      @troypoint  26 дней назад +5

      Try changing the server you are connected to in your VPN app. I've had that problem and this comes when the server you are trying to download from has blocked the IP address of the VPN server. Changing servers usually takes care of that.

    I’ll Ike to know what happened to the RUclips app. It no longer plays videos except for live ones. It says 403 source problem or something like that. I looked it up but only found forbidden 403 videos which is not the same thing if I understand it correctly. Is there any way to fix this? I use that app a lot so this really stinks!

    Iam using Surfshark VPN and my question is if I choose a location like maybe Hong Kong will be able to watch Japanese movies from that region? So often here in the US there are Japanese movies that I would like to see but there is no links.

    • @troypoint
      @troypoint  25 дней назад

      That will work for apps such as Netflix that use geo-restrictions based on your location but if you are using free streaming apps, it won't do anything.

    I cannot or remove that Ip address on my Onn 4k streaming Box

    • @troypoint
      @troypoint  26 дней назад +2

      Keep in mind you have 2 IP Addresses. One is assigned by your router and one by your ISP. The ISP conceals the IP that your router assigns which is facing the outside world. You will always have both IP addresses.

     My current VPN I have to check that it’s running in the background because even though I have it setup to start up upon any reboot it seems to fail. I have to check manually before I stream. It’s a headache.

      There are apps you can download to show you if the VPN is running or not. Usually a small green dot in the corner of you screen One is called VPN Privacy Dot. But there are others free and paid.

    .. Netflix seems to be detecting Surfshark.. not allowing without turning off VPN.. anyone else?

    • @troypoint
      @troypoint  3 дня назад +1

      Try going into settings/apps/Netflix force close the app and then clear cache. If it remembers your previous connection many times it won't work. Also, try changing servers if that doesn't work.

    With my ONN 4K PRO Wi-Fi speed is faster than Ethernet! Why is that?

    • @troypoint
      @troypoint  3 дня назад +1

      Hello, the 4K Pro only comes with standard Ethernet not Gigabit. Standard only gives you max 100 Mbps speeds. WiFi will be faster because of that.

      Biggest problem is that people try to get a refund after 30 days. Both Surfshark and ExpressVPN gladly honor refunds within 30-day time-frame.
