Sad to hear of the death of Dickey Betts. What an amazing guitarist. Stepped up to the plate after the death of Duane Allman and kept things going. Now one of the original drummers Jaimoe is the only surviving member of the group left. Their music however will live on.
So sad Dickey Betts died on April 18. This is a song he wrote for his daughter. My tears are flowing because I have been to many of their concerts when Duane was alive too. My Southern Rock bands are dying away.
Gregg Allman on Hammond B-3, Dickey Betts and "Dangerous" Dan Toler on guitar, David Goldflies on bass, Mike Lawler on keyboards, Butch Trucks and Frankie Toler on drums...
It's so sad to see our music heros growing old and passing on. Allman Bros were a big part of my coming of age years. Especially as they lived in my part of Florida. My sister used to go to parties where they would jam, they would also just show up in local pubs and start playing. Alas, I was to young to experience this, but I did love the music. RIP Dickey, Thank you for the music.😔💔
I could never understand why Dickey Betts was never mentioned when it came to the best rock and blues guitarists. Hendrix, Clapton, S.R.V., Jimmie Page and more were always mentioned. I never read Dickey Betts in these statistics - it's a shame, a very big shame, I think ! Thanks to @BizMatic for sharing this historic, great song and best wishes @all from Hamburg (Germany)
Great rock band from the 70's that mixed blues, jazz & country music in their sound. They had lots of great songs such as "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed", "Statesboro Blues", "Whipping Post", "Melissa", "Blue Sky", "Ramblin' Man" etc. "Jessica" is one of my favorites instrumental songs by them. It was written by guitarist Dickey Betts & named after his daughter. Sad that he just passed away.
I went to U Of Fla in 68....we were all hanging out in the Reitz Union when we heard Duane was killed up the road in Georgia. Was a real moment. Tom Petty used to be on a landscaping crew at school. Later he was in Mudcrutch and played EVERYWHERE...you couldn't get away from them. Not a bad thing. G'ville was magical in the day.
Like CDB said, people down in Georgia came from near and far, to hear Richard Betts pickin' on that red guitar! Speaking of Charlie Daniels, can we get Trudy?
RIP Dickey. Speaking of Southern Rock, I saw ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert two days ago. I've seen ZZ Top before and even though each show was awesome, seeing them now, without Dusty Hill is kinda sad. The replacement looks the part and is impressive on the bass guitar, but he doesn't sing. A lot of the band's greatest tunes were sung by Dusty, and the absence is noticeable to lifelong fans. It was my first time seeing Skynyrd and as I enjoyed their performance, I kept thinking that none of them were original members. So, was I really seeing Skynryd, or was I seeing the best damn Skynyrd tribute band in the world? Either way, I'm happy for the experience. I'm going to see the Rolling F'n Stones this weekend... another 1st for me. Rock on Biz!
Glad I got to see this. Thanks for sharing.
TIGHT!
Great reaction! Thanks

Co-guitarist "Dangerous" Dan Tyler has sadly also passed away
Indeed, Rip Dickey
Ramblin' Man, Blue Sky, and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed are three more Dickey Betts tunes you need to react to.
I think he did Liz Reed awhile back.

That is the most beautiful sounds I ever heard. Wow beautiful. Top top notch A number 1. Love the brothers ❤
The best rock instrumental of all time.
The man also plays a mean acoustic guitar, the song Melissa proves it 😅
