What a freaking tight band. Drummer is a beast and I don't even know what to say about Billy. Makes me proud to be a Long Islander who essentially was brought up on IV doses of this man's iconic music. I feel lucky.
@@jamesrogala since it's the only pedal under the piano, it's definitely a sustain pedal, but effect pedals like chorus, distortion, etc. aren't just for guitars. They work on any amplified instrument.
It's crazy to see him unable to walk straight down the cat walk. Steps up to the piano and doesn't miss a SINGLE NOTE. He deserves his success and legacy.
Today I saw him at Madison Square Garden and even though he didn't sing this song (my favourite), he gave an EXCELLENT show. I came all the way from Chile to see him. I feel it was worthy ❤️
This song and performances says everything about why Billy Joel is an unrecognised genius. Perfect in all ways ..melodic, meaning, original, very musical, great lyrics ...what's not to like??
Ah yes. Nothing says unrecognized like Billy Joel. Literally nobody has even heard of him before the Boys. Gosh, thank god there's people like you who can help popularize these super obscure artists like the completely unheard of Billy Joel. Definitely doesn't still have an impact on pop-culture because, as you said, he's unrecognized.
Billy Joel's first 8 albums are sick. The man is immensely talented. Just listen to Glass Houses and then Nylon Curtain. Incredible variety in his music.
The variety of styles between his songs is crazy. I can't think of any other group that does this. It's hard to believe this is the same guy that did "Uptown Girl" and "It's still Rock and Roll to me"
I always listened trash metal and black metal . Never respected to guys like joel. But now I see he is a fucking legend. I wasted my 35 years avoiding him.
@@ultravenia Wow! That guy is a studio Musician. Clean the ears out Sweetie. That guy toured around the world and played Infront of Millions of fans. Shame Of you for saying that. Liberty is a amazing drummer.

Also Mark Rivera swinging a baseball bat at 3:17 when he sings the baseball lines (in the ninth, two men out and three men on). Definitely part of the act. Little details like that I didn't even notice the first hundred times I watched, and I've seen this concert so many times
Billy joel the piano men himself but I hate him how he plays that song so easily without getting tired I can't even play the first part the best but damn
Ну это еще совсем молоденький Били Джоэл, поэтому экспрессии и эмоций выше головы... Балдеют от этого хита.. Понимаю на старости лет, 62 года, все понимаю.....
To think at the time of this concert (Nov 1982) that this was one of the new songs. I feel he was at the height of his career and songwriting with The Nylon Curtain and in a podcast hosted by Alec Baldwin Billy stated that Curtain is his favorite album too.
timmmahhhh yea. The curtain is amazing. My personal fav is the stranger but I do really love songs like goodnight Saigon, pressure, and Allentown which obviously are all on curtain

That piano riff is by far one of the most catchy and addicting melodies I've ever heard.
Most definitely !
When the boys are back
This sounds like something a mad scientist would create. And yet brilliant.
I agree.
I never realized it but I think that's why I've always loved this song since I was about 8 years old.
Better than brilliant

The piano must be foot powered. Billy's pumping it to give it power.
It's an electric piano. That's the sustain pedal he's using - holds notes.
It's a player piano. You got to pump the pedals to make it work. 🤣

This s the BEST version of this song for me. It's just a little faster, with this drums, and his excited voice as he sings

The russian folk inspired synth riff is iconic. Five years after this song was released, Billy toured the USSR.

Did y'all notice the "staged" attack in the bottom left corner at 1:43, when he sings about being paranoid?
