As a dad starting my kids into RC, this video made a strong point - less Nürburgring, more NASCAR. And that totally makes sense. We're just drawing tracks in the driveway with sidewalk chalk right now, but the fundamentals make a big difference. Just because it's a simple two or three turn track, doesn't mean there aren't skills being taught and honed. Cheers!
You definitely should! Super simple build, and endless fun. Even for people that run Off-road, it's super satisfying to try to make good lap after good lap, especially in traffic!
I plan to build my own practice track as soon as i get a chance. I have plenty of land with decent soil. Is this turned up topsoil or did you have to haul in dirt?
I've really only ever used my own stuff (had a buddy bring me a load of crappy material one time I didn't really use). The rock sifter is definitely one of my most important tools
Super helpful video really like your style and thinking. Just starting a fairly large home track and venue luckily I have 7 acres to work with and my terrain is rugged and steep! I will continue to draw on your wisdom and experience in pursuit of a really fun and challenging track. Appreciate what you do.
I'm curious if it's smooth enough, probably not at the moment considering what mother natures done lately. And with the banking I don't know if they have the suspension travel... but I've got one sitting in the garage waiting for electronics so we will see eventually
I think the 2wd late models look pretty fun! On dirt I just love how you can over drive the 4wd stuff, but I did pick up a sprint car because my local track built a big fast oval and the truck just gets too hot. I'm gonna run out of garage space for RC stuff... not sure I'll add any 2wd stuff other than the sprint car, but if anyone brings a short course over ill snag some video
@NikkiNexo777 it will definitely happen. Need to get the electronics in the car and a paint/wrap job on the car but it's definitely on the agenda. Might be after the first of the year because I'm about to leave for flight instructor academy here soon and have to do a lot of studying for that.
@D.J.Holman-le4zw that's gotta be a badass track indoor. I just found an outlaw 5 for a decent deal, see how she goes on my track but more wanted it for my local track that just added an oval
Definitely! Grab a rake, or you could drag a screen behind a mower or quad. And then lots and lots of water. Best thing for smoothing your track is going to be a big rain storm... and then just patience. The track will develop and change with the weather and how much you run on it and maintain it. They're bound do be pretty rough when they're brand new
@@TheRacinJason awesome thank you! Don’t know why I didn’t think of using water 😅 I appreciate the help! Your channel started my RC track adventure! Can’t wait to get some laps!
@RudeyPaTudey great place to start! Couple years you'll have a handful or race cars. Oval is a great place to start building the fundamentals I talk about in the video, before you think about controlling a car in the air!
The night atmosphere with the lighting is fantastic (the forested surroundings help too!). Oval tracks are completely unfamiliar to me. Do you wash off speed in the higher elevation turn just by easing off throttle and turning in? Is it similar in the lower turn, or closer to no throttle or the tiniest amount of braking to get the weight were you want it, and the turn in speed right? Another great video, thank you for sharing it.
Because my track has such different corners both of the techniques you mentioned are in play. I usually use a little understeer or rotation to find the right speed. If I overdrive the entry or I'm trying to go to the inside I'll definitely use the brake but the brake is always there for control, especially when you're close to another car. I think the coolest thing to me is that it actually gets a cushion and as long as you're not too fast you can catch it pretty nicely and use it like a sling shot! I think it works best in turning to the right, which is probably why I have a little more fun! It's more uphill into the flatter turn and then the bottom turn really acts as a bowl in that direction so it lets you drive a bit harder. Bottom turn going left you really have to enter the outside smoothly because it's pretty steep in that direction. Super fun both ways especially with a couple cars out there to battle
Im not winning the compromise for backyard space with the old lady. Im thinking an oval may be best. The area i have to use can fit an oval similar to yours. I can build an infield 38ft×10ft. 8ft wide straight aways. 10ft wide turns. I can fit a damn 8th scale track in my yard but happy wife happy life
@tomcook5813 I've got some proline Hoosiers on my truck but not sure they make those for your car. A small pin like a holeshot or a goosebump might be good depending on your dirt. If it's clay a bar tire like a barcode might be better

Keeping it simple is a great way to start, building toward the tougher stuff! Thanks for watching
Couple jumps be cool in the oval
I was thinking something like that too. Maybe on one of the straightaways put some kind of jump. A single double or triple 😮 .
I’ve been tempted to put an oval in at home for a while… this makes me want to even more. Nice work!

love the lights and your track looks great
Thanks man. Fun place to hang out
I tried to email you but it was kicked back

That’s freaking rad now I need to build an oval!! Love the content 👍
We have a blast on the oval! Thanks for watching
Looks like a great time just hanging and have fun!.
Awesome spot to chill and rip up the track!
And thank you for the detailed video with dimentions Jay!!!
No worries man! Good luck with your track

Thanks for watching, sounds very similar to my property
It would be cool to get some sprint cars for that dirt oval.

Great... Tks Bro
So what brand/model are you running./. I assume they are 1/10? I’m thinking of going bigger, 1/16 is a little squirrelly
1/10 4wd short course. Not a traditional oval car but super fun on my small track
I want to see you drive a 2wd SCT on the oval. 🤘

@TheRacinJason same boat, picked up a gfrp assault 3.0 just haven't gotten an esc for it yet. I run in my shop (40x80) with the oval cars.

Awesome! I just tilled up a big patch in my yard and tried to smooth it out but it’s so bumpy. Any tips to get the track nice and smooth?

@RudeyPaTudey appreciate that! It's super fun to have a track you can run whenever the weather permits. You adding Offroad to it or just an oval?
@@TheRacinJason just oval for now. Very new to RC cars. Having a ton of fun with a brushed slash street stock

What would a good size be for 1/16 cars?
Just a touch smaller than this, fast for that size. Or if you went like half size it would feel like a short track.

Ease her into it, you can start with the oval then maybe add to it for Offroad... tell her it's a lot better than other things you could be doing
Wow. The infield doesn't even look like its 33 feet
Are you the same guy on that street racing show? Kye Kelly ?
I'm definitely not kye kelly, lol
Can I use my Tamiya hot shot buggy on a track like that?
I'd imagine you could... no guarantee on breaking stuff with those older cars. Good tires are always helpful
@@TheRacinJason one more question please, what kind of tires do you use?
