It works. Doubt I'll take these off anytime soon. Instead of cutting out the whole pocket shape I simply took the edge attachment strips from the gym mats and cut them to size, so I end up with just a band that fit's neatly around the pocket. This was a brilliant idea of yours to use the gym mats as material and I think it's actually better than the shop bought pocket reducers. Such a simple idea should be patented.
First all this is a great idea and I'm sure it works. The thing that I would be concerned about is it looks like the mat is not nearly as hard as the pocket reducers like the one you showed. I own a set of those and use them off and on when I'm in the mood. My point is that the mat looks like it would be very easy to make shots merely by compressing the mat with the object ball as it enters the pocket. And this would especially be true on hard shots. I like to shoot balls into the pocket at a higher than average speed than most players., Having said all this I would definitely use this method if I didn't have the spring loaded pocket reducers because this type of reducer would be infinitely better than nothing.
Geat idea and run! I have been playing for along time and am still nowhere near as good of a player as you are, I think its just cause I dont have the dicipline to practice like I should. I just want to play and love every minute of it even if I get beat. This summer, The off season, I think I will begin to run drills to improve my play. Thanks for the videos!
Works very well. Just got a new 8 foot with BUCKET pockets. Used to playing 3 3/4
LOVE DIY options! Very clever my friend.

Working on your stroke will help way more than pocket reducers.. If you have a great stroke, balls tall even when the aim is slightly off..
Love the idea! Be interested to know if you still use these 9 years on?
How thick is this gym mat boss? How many mm?
