Damn! I still love this stuff, it never gets old. This music is just as funky and jazzy as it’s always been... on the one now Fred! Yes- sir gimme some mo! 😜
Now you know what helped make The Godfather of Soul, James Brown, so damned successful! Brown couldn't read or write music, so Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker had to interpret what James wanted. This is a Masters class people!!!
Wow. My friend Ed Thomas who recently passed only last year did this awesome artwork for the cover video. I remember seeing this artwork when I was in my early teens. RIP Ed.
I'll go one step further since I'm so 'hilarious' to you: James Brown made James Brown. No one else. These sidemen, because that's what they were, "sidemen", not "equals", claim to be equal to Mr. Brown in creating HIS sound. This band is just another band without James Brown up there to lead them. They are NOWHERE as good as any of the bands Mr. Brown led because he is the one who made them great, not the other way around. Even Fred Wesley has said "Any band you put in front of James Brown becomes a great band".
The band did not create James Brown's sound. James Brown created James Brown's sound. The band was just the method that he got that sound out. It could have been any band, it didn't matter. Even Fred Wesley has said "Put any band in front of James Brown (no matter how good they are) and they will become a great band".
+Paul DAvanzo Fred was being gracious. James Brown could not even explain to the musicians what "his sound" was. If it were not for Fred and Maceo and Clyde and St Claire being accomplished jazz musicians, James' funk, which was musically way easier to play than jazz, would not have been realized. James took THEIR jazz and made it popular by putting a show on top of it. The same can be said of George Clinton and Berry Gordy. Without musicians with GREAT musical ABILITY, their visions of sellable pop could not have happened.
That's ridiculous. James Brown's music is much more complicated than jazz. Fred Wesley has said numerous times that James Brown is the greatest musician he has ever played with and that James Brown did things musically that went against what was accepted as music theory.
Fred Wesley ,Bootsy, george clinton, maceo park.... são os melhores...jbs... show music.funk music the best.

Too damn slow. Never like P-Funk's style. This sounds much better live when the JB's performed it in a much faster tempo.
