beautiful speech love this quote. "The movie is about people trying take care of each other in the face of terrible of adversity, I have been taken care of my whole life by wonderful people who I love, and who have loved me." Great stuff
"Manchester by the sea" has to be the most realistic and touching film that made me feel identified. "Hell or High Water" hold me at the edge of the seat with his thrilling concept. I wanted that "La La Land" won this award because of his originaly and entertaining concept, but a deserving award for "MBTS" and for Kenneth Lonergan.
@@TheLPClub Dancing and music that atleast have something to do with a plot. You think La La Land doesn't need a screenplay, you think musicals doesn't need a screenplay? The screenplay for the musical scenes are original song that is about the plot anyways. Movie still needs some narrative anyways mainly about building some characters that we need to give some shit about. That's like saying West Side Story has a terrible screenplay because it's all about dancing and music when it also about telling a compelling story in a different way
This is lit, because Matt Damon commissioned that script and was going to direct it, but when he read it he decided that Lonergan should direct it himself.
Fun fact: This is the 6th consecutive year that the Best Original Screenplay Oscar went to the winning film's director (they either wrote or co-wrote the screenplay in addition to directing it).

Pretty well deserved, but it’s unacceptable people saying that La La Land shouldn’t have been nominated. The story of the film it’s not what makes the screenplay, it’s how you tell the story. Even though La La Land has a simple story, Damien Chazelle wrote it flawlessly making a cliche loooking very original thanks to the way he wanted to tell the story.
I hate it whenever a less famous person wins an Oscar they cut to a clip of the film as they're walking to the stage. WHY?! I like seeing the reaction from the audience.
Some screenplays win because of their story, some win because of their dialogue, and some win because of both Manchester by the Sea definitely won because of both
Uhh aha I didn't, those were my favorites of 2016. You got great taste bro! It's a shame Kimi No Na Wa wasn't nominated for Best Animated Film, but I think it's because of the late release in America. Hopefully it'll go for next year.

I know they both won this award in 1998, but I still think it's a little weird that these two were the presenters. Ben's brother starred in it and Matt produced it! It was well deserved, but I think it goes without saying that this was probably the one they were personally rooting for. LOL
Shouldn't the synopsis read "Ben Affleck and guest present Kenneth Lonergan with the Oscar® for Best Original Screenplay for "Manchester by the Sea" at the 89th Oscars® in 2017"?

Porque un guion original no solo es que la historia sea diferente, sino todo el concepto con el cual cuentas esa historia, y el guion de La La Land es impecable y hermoso, totalmente merecida la nominacion.
Whiplash to me made sense as being adapted since it was made as a short film beforehand. Although Chazelle wrote the full screenplay before cutting it down to 15 minutes. But in both the cases of Moonlight and Whiplash it did give them a much better chance of winning since the original category was pretty strong those years.

Lonergan is a wordsmith. Few screen writers craft the words the way he does, That is one reason he doesn't make many films. Well deserved Oscar.
So well deserved, the dialogue in that film was so real and hit me like a bus.
Hope you got to see director's cut of MARGARET, another astoundingly great movie by Lonergan
it really is an excellent movie.

I love La La Land, but screenplay.
THE SCREENPLAY
IT'S DANCING AND MUSIC
The LP Club um ... no.
For me La la land it's the best as a whole, but not in screenplay. I think H or H, Manchester and The Lobster were better in this category.
