No onscreen button mapping is such a weird thing to left out for a modern telescopic controller, it's needed for a lot of the most popular games out there. They can add it though in a future update but it's a big thing to not come out of the box. The quality seems great but the right stick seems to be too far down for the amount of grip we have on it.
The G8 still seem like the best option out there IMO specially accounting for the price, it has great buttons, build quality and most importantly ergonomics. The one thing missing in it is rumble (which I don't really mind) and the capacity of using the phones with the case on, that's was the most attractive thing from the Tessen from the review.

Solid review 👍👍 I hope the tech community starts supporting channels like yours who tell it like it is vs just "This is Great!-type reviews

Great review, Joey. I was thinking of getting this, but I needed more info on it. There are no good reviews on RUclips for it. Thanks !

GameSir G8 Galileo is definitely one of the most comfortable controllers I've ever touched, they really nailed it

You forgot to mention (unless I missed it) that it doesn't have a 3.5mm audio jack, something that cheaper options like the Gamesir G8 ($40 CAD cheaper) do have.

Check out the GameSir G8 if you haven't. I like ASUS but this one is a little smaller and doesnt have the swappable sticks. The stick and d-pad is so low on the ASUS, but the G8 actually extends further down for a better grip. In fact, Redmagic licenses the GameSir controllers because of their quality. I actually have both the GameSir and Redmagic versions of the G8, one modified for a vertical layout on a tablet for DS/Tate.

      Yep I've tried the G8.

Gamesir G8 analogs seem to have way too much. movement in them. I don't like the feel of them at all. Also the right analog is very low and I find I have to move my right hand down to the very end of the handle to be able to use it properly and I have big hands. It's definitely an awkward feel. All of these telescopic controllers should at least handle up to a 10 inch tablet from now on.

I bought one, I don't regret it yet, but I haven't had much luck with getting it to work how I hoped. I wanted to use Moonlight to then have controller input to my computer in order to play some of the games on my PC, I haven't been able to get it to work with Moonlight. It also isn't working on Genshin Impact as the game doesn't seem to recognize it. Hopefully they update the armory crate to improve the negatives you mentioned in your review.

For Moonlight, make sure you installed the vigem bus driver with Sunshine on your host.

@@JoeysRetroHandhelds Thanks, I'll give that a try, I have to RMA the device as the left joystick is stuck pressing left, even though the joystick is upright, I was enjoying playing with a dreamcast emulator, but hopefully the RMA process isn't too bad.

I reckon you can map certain buttons on the rog phone though (as it has an overlay for in game, which was able to program buttons on the Kunai gamepads made specifically for their phones.

The g8 Galileo is still the best because it's under 100 and it's got full size buttons

No onscreen mapping, no hall effect sticks and triggers, and it's $40 more expensive than the GameSir G8 that does have these essential features AND great built quality.
But you still recommend this over the G8? Really??

    • @JoeysRetroHandhelds
      @JoeysRetroHandhelds  4 месяца назад +3

Yep. I don't like the quality of Gamesir's products, I have had bad experiences with every product I've ever owned from them. I'll pay extra for anyone else's products.

    •  4 месяца назад

hall effect sticks are not essential. Onscreen mapping could be added in an aupdate I would think but should have been included out of the box. $40 more expensive because of build quality. Gamesir build quality is just ok.

My previous phone controller had BT connection and ALPS sticks. It suffered from lag and severe stick drift.
The G8 solved these problems and rekindled my love for retro games!
Oh, and I also own the Miyoo mini

IMO TOTAL DISAGREE. Gamesir Galileo G8 is the best bank for buck. Full comfort, touch support, wide range of cases and size with a small mod and under 100USD. Asus is not worth it.

Not having a Fold 4 for retro gaming is a sin. its probably the largest screen you can use for a retro handheld because it's close to 4:3 ratio.
