This takes me back to my childhood in Ballymun. My sisters and I would get one each in the bakery after swimming every single day during the summer holidays. I had two homemade slices. After one bite, we were both back there.

I tried your recipe and must say It came out absolutely delicious. I adjusted the quantity of the tea, didn't require that much. The texture and taste is too good.
    Thank you for the recipe.

i love Gur cake since i was a nipper always had a slice in plastic stuffed into my front jeans pocket. then go climbing walls and trees and it didnt matter if it was all mushed up it was still gorgeous to eat. and i always took some with me when i went on Gur with me friends. all the shops had the same flavour in those days but now there are different types but they are all still called Gur cake. my staple was Catherins bakery on Frances street she made them like i always remembered and they always tasted the same every time so how ever she made them they were great. i tend not to buy them any more cos they are so different in flavour. i typicaly do not like raisins or sultanas but when cathrin made Gur cake it was a blended mixture.....love finding your channel by the way im a northsider from Sheriff street but i now live in Tallaght for the past 40 years

My Mum was from Dublin, Gur cake was something she made quite a lot, she soaked the bread in a bit of milk & the fruit in cold tea. I have made it myself too, many times, it is still a strong family favourite, the last time I made it I used home made mincemeat leftover from Christmas cake/mince pies, it didn’t last long 😉😉 Thanks for sharing it & for the trip down memory lane ☘️☘️

Baking powder and flour how much rest seems straight forward.. Got to try and surprise wife of 52 years as she got hooked on it when we settled back in Ireland. Keep up the great videos from a new fan

RUclips algorithm is some kind of witchcraft 😆. I wasn't even looking for this recipe, I had it suggested by RUclips. I know this cake. In a polish town where I come from couple of bakeries was making it out of cake scraps. They called it "bajaderka". It was my favourite school snack. I had no clue its an Irish recipe. It blows my mind how RUclips algorithm figured out I might be interested in this video, and it happens too often to be an coincidence. I wish I had some bread or cake scraps now 😂 thank you for the recipe, I'll definitely make it one day.
