This is regarding the Rags and Fringy argument with Game completion: 1.0 is the “base completed” version of the game. It has went beyond beta and the company developing it considered it worthy of public release. Yes, nowadays, 1.0 doesn’t have to be the *final version* as updates, bug fixes, and DLC can be inputted if the company wishes; however, 1.0 still means that’s its “finished” version, meaning the company can stop development at any time because it is deemed “complete”. Minecraft was accessible during its beta stage and is still being updated to this day, but it had an official 1.0 release on November 18, 2011. At any point in time after that, Notch or Microsoft would’ve just pulled the plug on development and users wouldn’t bat an eye because that was when Notch/MS, again, deemed it as “complete”. If the game’s development just stopped at anytime before its 1.0 release, that’s considered “abandonware” because the devs decided to cease supporting it and left it unfinished in some fashion. When will the Star Citizen devs say, “Alright, we’ve done everything we can do at this time for this game. We’ve ironed out all of the A bugs, most of the B bugs, and some of the C bugs, we’ve filled in a lot of potential exploits that can be done to the game, and we have enough content within the game to satisfy the average “non-tech savvy” player. Now, when should we mass release and market this game to the public eye?”? Once they say that, they have their 1.0. ADDENDUM: Fringy’s right on the ball with this one! Yes, the Star Citizen devs can add more to the game after it’s official release; but if they don’t have a proper “base game” and keep adding more and more features into the *beta*, that’s feature-creep and that will overwhelm development once, twice, thrice its initial pace. With that mentality, the game will forever be in beta because the devs don’t have a planned stopping point. ADD2: 1:30:28 The game’s still in ALPHA!?! Listen, I get ambition, but if it takes you *this* long to develop a game and still be in alpha, you gotta get your priorities straight as a company! Yeah, SC players are laughing at those who consider it a “scam”, but if that game has yet to be in a marketable state, they’re basically laughing at a brick wall at this point.
Personally, I'm not likely to purchase or play a game that hasn't left alpha or beta stages. I want to experience a game as a complete, cohesive product the first time I play it, since I'll only get that chance once. Look at it like consuming any other type of media. I doubt many people would prefer watching a movie mid-production as opposed to watching it in theaters after all the cgi and editing is done.
@@TheRealJabbergeist I understand people who do it, because I used to do it. Then I realised a lot of the time I won't play the game long enough to experience the full development cycle so I'm just getting a worse experience for the same price if I play games during their beta-state. There are exceptions to this. I played minecraft from 0.7 to 1.1 or something. I played Heroes of the Storm from it's open beta to this day. Those are the two games that stuck. Rest did not.

I'm only seven minutes in. But: 1) To the folks saying that The Snyder Cut trailer is comic-book accurate... Nope. It isn't. Zack Snyder's style is to take randome images frame by frame and dialogues word for word and shove it in there. That his style. Rich imagery. That does not make something comic-book accurate. Remember, WW84 has an invisible jet in it that Diana flies. That does not make WW84 accurate to the comic books. 2) Its a trailer. This latest trailer has loads of stuff from the theatrical version but in Zack Snyder's colour code. Getting mad at anyone's pessimism or anyone's hype-train is equally funny. Wait till the movie is out, sure. Regardless, opinions are opinions. 3) To Rags point about the funny Apokalips spelleing name. Just a detail, Apocalypse spelt correctly is a villain in the Marvel's X-Men series. Yeah, maybe pick another name. But (subjectively) I personally don't mind because he's a rather good villain in the comics and cartoons. Just sayin'. Love you.
uhhhhh, zoomer Valentine? Apokalips, home of Darkseid, was created in the early 1970's. "Apocalypse", the Marvel's X-Men villain was first seen over ten years later in 1986. If anyone needed to pick another name, it was the goofy a$$ Marvel villain.

Oh boy, a memefap! 1:23:56 How long have I been (and, dear God, how much longer will I be) listening to elevator music over a conversation about defining when a game is "released".
The argument about what is arbitrary is the peak tism. The first definition you find is not the best definition you find. Rags was right but didn't know why, it seems. Arbitrary means something dependent on one's will, decided by one's judgement. Derived from latin "arbiter". Defining what is an animal and what is a plant is arbitrary. Observing what falls into either category afterwards is not. Deciding what state of the game qualifies as version 1.0 is arbitrary. Determining afterwards whether or not that state is reached is not arbitrary.
Who decides what is "the best" definition? Words are polysemous, they can have more than a one meaning. Also, etymology is fun but quite useless. It doesn't matter where the word is derived from. If you use a different definition than Fringy, that's fine. But if we use his, he is absolutely right, the logic follows.
@@jigsawharlequin862 the best definition is the one that gives you the best understanding of the word's meaning. And etymology tends to give a better idea of what the word means because words evolve over time. And while words have a range of meaning, if you go too far to the side it becomes not just your interpretation of the word, it becomes a wrong interpretation of the word. "If it is done for any reason at all it's not arbitrary" is going too far. It is being wrong.
@@MrRavellon Sure, but who decides what is the best meaning? Certainly not dictionaries, they are descriptive. Etymology is irrelevant to this. It's a fun trivia, if you know the parent language you can sometimes guess the meaning but , as you said, words evolve. Sarcasm doesn't mean "to tear flesh" (sarkazein in Greek), "weird" doesn't mean destiny (Germanic wyrd) and "gay" is not understood as "cheerful" anymore. Arbitraty can be used in a couple of ways, even with regards to use of personal power. And Fringy has defined what he means by "any reason".
@@jigsawharlequin862 and "for any reason" is wrong. As for etymology. Sarcasm. From "tear flesh" to "gnash teeth" to "speak bitterly" to "sneer" and "taunt". If you know all that you'll much better understand the difference from irony, for example. Weird. From "destiny" to "able to defy destiny" to "unearthly or unsettling" to what it is now. Knowing that will allow you to understand the subtle difference between modern use of weird and strange. While there is significant overlap, it is not absolute. Gay shifting meaning so quickly and utterly seems artificial to me. And that would be in line with the modern academic tendency to try to redefine words. You don't get to redefine words in order to make yourself retroactively correct.
@@jigsawharlequin862 would you agree that colloquial definitions or uses habe more weight or use in arguments. Its rare that a word gets used to their exact meaning and definition in everyday use. So frongy defined his terms by the definition but colloquial use is on Rags side because arbitrary is often used colloquially to mean on a whim. Their debate as it were was derailed so Rags forgot his original point that early access type games can absolutely release a 1.0 arbitrarily.
Fringy could have used for his example of 1.0 a story driven game. For instance you write the plot for the story mode of a game like The Last of Us. If the player is unable to complete the story it's less than 1.0 for sure.

LOL. The Snyder Riders Playset meme is based off a toy/cartoon from the 80's called Dino-Riders. Sadly, it was short lived. Check out the intro. It was cool for its time.
The trap you have to avoid falling into with the "Star Citizen is a scam" debate (and this is from someone who's never played it or even seen anything of it besides hearing it's apparently a scam) is the idea that you say right now, today, that the game is a massive scam because "it's never "coming out"", but then if tomorrow the devs changed the build name to 1.0, sent out loads of physical copies and said "The game's finally out guys!", it's suddenly no longer a scam. It doesn't switch between the two states of "scam" and "not a scam" because of something as simple as a build name. That all implies that if you took away the past 10 years of content they've made for the game and said in 2014 "yep, we're done. Give us money", it's NOT a scam. And that same argument also means that if No Man's Sky didn't make any updates at all when it came out, it wouldn't have been a scam despite how outraged everyone was at how barebones and empty the game was after all the stuff that was promised. So No Man's Sky apparently isn't a scam because the game was officially in a 1.0 build and it hypothetically has no updates at all and is left in the state it was in at release, but Star Citizen IS a scam if it does exactly what No Man's Sky is doing now, but instead of the new update releases being labelled "Update 19.3", the updates are labelled "Update 0.93". In summary, No Man's Sky is not less dubious and suspicious at release than Star Citizen is today just because of a simple build name. Warframe is an example of a game I've played for thousands of hours. It's not a finished game, even though the main story arc that was being told since the game's release in 2013 (or 12, I'd have to check, but I think 13) was finished years ago. The devs are starting the next "phase" of the story and are looking into introducing an entirely new villain and faction and everything. The game can't be called a scam just because of it's build name
Finished means in a state that companies are ready to present the product as such, it's not arbitrary because the decision has to be made, the reasons why it was presented as finished can seem arbitrary, but if it's not actually done, meaning if features are missing or if it's full of bugs, it caries liabilities with it and not only legal ones. Take Hello Games, the developer of No Mans Sky, it's fixed now from what I've heard, but if you mention them while recommending a game from them, most people who remember the launch of No Mans Sky will react with hesitation.
Pretty interesting discussion about Star Citizen. I don't agree with the retail thing Fringy was saying, for example League of Legend is a game, that is not on retail and will never be "finished" because the content always changes, but it's a complete game. There is a difference between live services games and typical games. If the players are happy with the game and enjoy the content they paid for, one could say that the game is already "out" and the only thing that defines when it's "out" would be the arbitrary decision from part of the developers of when to release the game according to the promises they made, which can always change through the course of development. I still think they should have "released" the game tho, it's been 7 years since the original release date, it makes it look like a giant scam for the normal people that don't know the details about the game, and I think that's what Fringy was trying to say when he says "out in retail"
If you mean "released" as in playable, then it is and has been for quite some time if you bought into it with a ship or some other obtuse method, Thats my primary concern with SC by the way, the weird way the developers handle the open alpha and the whole "buying" ships to further fund development and access it. its all very strange from someone from the outside looking in
I agree with Rags' on the arbitrarity point in that game version 1.14 to 1.15 could literally be 1.14 to 1 if the devs felt like it was done. Fringy did prompt this I feel as he moved the conversation from 'I own a physical CD that I can pop in and play when I want' to 'Version 1 of a game is considered finished'

IDK about the gun videogame. Maybe replace the gun and blood with energy powers or something, since there's specific, real people being portrayed. Feels like this could get you into some trouble.

This is regarding the Rags and Fringy argument with Game completion:
1.0 is the “base completed” version of the game.
I'm only seven minutes in. But:
1) To the folks saying that The Snyder Cut trailer is comic-book accurate... Nope.
Love you.
I would call odd spelling a nitpick unless it actually is a plot point.
Snyderverse is comic accurate if your only source is the Injustice game.
uhhhhh, zoomer Valentine? Apokalips, home of Darkseid, was created in the early 1970's. "Apocalypse", the Marvel's X-Men villain was first seen over ten years later in 1986. If anyone needed to pick another name, it was the goofy a$$ Marvel villain.

"The Nazis had standards."
.. I mean, you're not wrong.
Fringy could have used for his example of 1.0 a story driven game. For instance you write the plot for the story mode of a game like The Last of Us. If the player is unable to complete the story it's less than 1.0 for sure.

Hi Rags
There’s no redemption arc. Does he get un-donkey’ed later? No, they’re gonkeys
Short man bad. Got it over the 10 minute limit just for the algorithm, huh!

2:39:00 😔 what have we become on this platform..?
Finished means in a state that companies are ready to present the product as such, it's not arbitrary because the decision has to be made, the reasons why it was presented as finished can seem arbitrary, but if it's not actually done, meaning if features are missing or if it's full of bugs, it caries liabilities with it and not only legal ones. Take Hello Games, the developer of No Mans Sky, it's fixed now from what I've heard, but if you mention them while recommending a game from them, most people who remember the launch of No Mans Sky will react with hesitation.
What is this length, Shortman bad
GLORIOUS RETURN OF THE ELEVATOR MUSIC! xDD
Someone just make Spuarter-man. I'm so mad I don't have the talent to do so.
If you mean "released" as in playable, then it is and has been for quite some time if you bought into it with a ship or some other obtuse method,
Thats my primary concern with SC by the way, the weird way the developers handle the open alpha and the whole "buying" ships to further fund
development and access it. its all very strange from someone from the outside looking in
