As a 10 year old boy, I snuck backstage to a Maestro Fresh Wes concert, one of my all time favourite rap icons. Wriggling my way under a bouncer’s arm with my Maestro cassette tape in hand, I caught up with the platinum record selling artist just as he was about to board his tour bus and introduced myself. Realizing I had snuck in, he laughed and happily signed the inside cover of my “Symphony in Effect” cassette, which would be thrown in the wash by my mom a few short weeks later. His kindness and generosity sticks with me to this day. THIS is how you treat fans, THIS is how you treat up and coming artists, THIS is how you treat humans. 35 years later, and a few very cool projects together from the first-ever Drive-In concert during COVID to the first-ever Epic Cookout - a sold out chef’s table and exclusive concert experience at Epic Market, he greets all his fans with the same generosity and kindness he greeted that 10 year old boy who snuck backstage. It’s truly an honour to have him on Episode 28 of Behind the Sound.
