@Mike Zielinski Yup ! The SRT's were awesome but the fujica is more modern in some ways, ie no mercury battery, LED's in the viewfinder. The minolta wins for its bayonet mount and the relative ease to find good quality rokkor lenses for it.
Was thinking whether I should buy the Fujica ST-801. This great video convinced me. Explained everything I needed to know and worked well with other reviews I’ve read. I’m picking one up tomorrow and can’t wait to get it in my hands:)
I have one,but I am not use the original fuji lenses on it even I have 28mm and 50mm. I use other kind of lenses adapted on it. It's the great camera. Enjoy it.
Cool vid ! My Dad bought it in '78 and gave in to me in 2012 when I was starting to shoot film. That's the best M42 body one could get. The only one drawback is the price of the battery. But at least this is something you can still buy quite easily compared to the ones all Spotmatic camera used that are not produced anymore. It's also surprisingly easy to load and you can have up to 39+ frames with it : I'd say 38 is the low average, but my record was set with a Tri-x and 39.5 pictures. Nice belgian landscapes, where were you ?
Want a secret ? There are workarounds for Spotmatics. They use the same battery as the Bulova Accutron watches and they still sell those batteries. The battery in the Fujica can also be acquired at pet stores, since some ultrasonic collars use it. Since the shutter is fully mechanical, you don't need a silver oxide battery, an alkaline works just fine.
@@MrAnalogDan12 perfect! I don't like having to do math or looking up stuff when I'm in the field haha. Seems like a good affordable camera for all my m42 lenses. I barely use my digital camera anymore especially since I have a good phone and plenty of tmax400 lol
How much did the fujica cost in 1973? For a minute there I thought you were going to tell us😂. You mentioned that the price was expensive for back in the day but then you didn't name the price. Does anyone know? Thx
@@MrAnalogDan12 Sorry, I've come across as a bit of a dick. I should have been more constructive. I do like your presentation style. It would just be useful to hear more about the camera in terms of its features, its quirks, and how easy you find it to use.

Since there are no comments here, I just wanted to say that I really like your way of presentation. Plus you definitely helped me with my decision.
Thanks ! The ST801 is definitely good.

@Mike Zielinski I always liked how smooth and refined Minolta SRT's are.
Images at 2:44 and selfie at 6:53 wow!
Love these cameras. Thank you for this video and I look forward to seeing others. Subscribed.
Like I said, for years I drove by this place and wanted to take a picture of it. Thanks for your comment !
That water pipe was surprisingly aesthetic. Lovely images as usual, Dan!
Many thanks!
Get mine today, after a long search for the perfect m42 camera- and now, here it is. Love it!
This is probably the best M42 manual camera you can find.
Mine is arriving in just a couple days. Super excited to get into film photography! Thanks for the review!
Hope you enjoy it!

Good choice! Modern battery and LED display make this camera the best M42 available. Hope you got it with a Fujinon Lens. These are incredible

The magic of M42 lenses ! Yashica, Pentax, Zeiss... loads of possibilities

Great video; I loved it.
Quick question how can I use my Pentax lenses on this camera?
All are K mount SMC. Will they work on this camera
Not possible ! Takumars (M42 mount) are compatible, not the other way around.
Some nice and sharp photographs with good contrast in this interesting video. A good camera lens combination. Thank You.
Many thanks!
When you change the shutter speed, does the exposure metering compensate to tell you if it is too high or too low?
Yes it does. Full coupling

Got one a few minths ago. Haven't tested it yet. But I'm excited about the Fujinon lens.
it's a awesome camera, with stellar lenses

I have to say, there's not a lot here about the camera. On the upside though, I now know more about bridges.
Thanks for the comment. That was my first video ever. But you just gave me an idea.

@@Whywas6scared well as soon as I can I'll upload a video about that camera which I hope will be interesting. Keep in touch!
Kan het ook kleur foto’s maken?
Yup ! Any film camera could make color pictures as long as you use a color film.
👍
