Its not just car and motorcycle "enthusiasts" its anyone trying to get from a to b. Its just big companies trying to make more profit nothing more nothing less. Trying to justify greed as some sort of environmental service. Scapping vehicles that already exist is not environmentally friendly no discussion.

Touring on a motorbike is becoming more popular and definitely easier these days. For me I can enjoy and have more of an adventure on my bike than a bog standard package holiday can give me. You don't need any special bike just the motivation to get up and go. On Thursday morning I set off for the tunnel on a ride to Iceland on my Guzzi V7, I can't wait.

All I can say Freddie is God Bless America. So far we don’t have that kind of crazy thinking about old cars and bikes being put down because there 15 years old. I have a 59 Chevy ,80 gmc, 96 jeep Cherokee, 48 and 98 Harley and a 79 Honda. They all run and I drive a different one everyday. The only thing that unites everyone in every country is there love of old cars and bikes. I truly hope that very stupid law never makes it. But if it does, the USA will buy all your old bikes and cars. No problem 👍

    Totally agree Freddie.
Ask yourself how many 20 year old vehicles do you see in regular use? 25 yr? 30yr?
This happens naturally anyway as a vehicle ages it becomes a rare sight on the road.
It doesn’t need to be forced upon us.
It would seem they know that EVs are a farce, that there will be a huge shift to maintaining old ICE vehicles and they intend to put a stop to it before it happens.

I totally agree as have a modern BMW R1250RT but after that I have a 1980 Yamaha XS1100, 1991 Kawasaki ZZR600, 1983 Honda GL1100 Goldwing (standard), 2002 Honda XRV750 Africa Twin, 1970 Triumph T100, 2002 Yamaha XJ900 Diversion that are all simple old school and I can fix and repair but I never have to! The R1250RT shall be sold after my May European trip and I will just use my Goldwing for any future tours or Africa Twin.
My main car is a 2012 Range Rover and I got that sick of repairing electrical gremlins so I bought myself a 1997 Volvo 940 Estate that is bullet proof and again I can maintain and run for years to come however it just needs an oil and air filter yearly and runs like clockwork. I want to maintain my own vehicles and I don't want an electric car or motorcycle! Most of my friends who succumbed to the PCP Electric Vehicle route are now purchasing petrol cars as the deals end as they are sick of range anxiety and the wife forgetting to charge it overnight! 😆

I've been impressed with the quality of Victory Motorcycles ever since I saw them displayed at a Beaulieu bike show over ten years ago. Note however that Victory did not go 'bust', it was under the Polaris umbrella and the brand was originally created so that Polaris could get a slice of the v-twin pie, mainly in the States. However, as Victory had no history, despite, arguably, producing better bikes, they could never overcome the 'heritage' advantage that came with the Harley brand and so sales struggled to take off. When Polaris acquired the rights to Indian, they decided to put all their bike eggs into that basket, trading on the inherent heritage that came with the Indian badge. Consequently, although the two companies traded side-by-side for a few years, it was decided that the Victory brand was no longer needed and so the company ceased production in 2017. Polaris pledged to continue to provide Victory spares and technical support for the following ten years. I think Victory was an important stepping stone for Polaris in establishing Indian as a genuine and credible competitor to Harley and, while there may not have been a viable market for Victory's products, they did not actually go 'bust'.

Great discussion points all of interest to me. Re Bonhams auctions worth remembering 15% buyers premium needs adding and no returns on a dud purchase. It’s a real shame Polaris pulled the plug on the Victory but it wasn’t a big seller, emissions were going to be an issue and Indian brand name was a winner. They are well engineered, fantastic to ride but be prepared for corrosion. British classic owners are now sadly getting old and younger owners idea of a classic is 20 years newer and Japanese or European. I think that’s why old bike prices are dropping. I also sadly think younger owners don’t have the skills or interest in fettling so much. Missed the insurance post so will go back and view now. 👍

Also you need to add 20% VAT to the premium, bringing it up to 18% total. Totally agree with your points about the drop in the pre 60's classics, also the market is getting somewhat flooded as the owners pass away. Many riders now prefer a modern classic as they have the looks without the breakdowns, oil leaks, bad brakes, vauge handling etc. etc.

I guarantee that automakers are the ones lobbying for this law to be passed, so that people have to buy a new vehicle every so many years. The environmental impact is a lame excuse that you'd have to be all but brain dead to accept. The CO2 contributions of enthusiast vehicles likely accounts for less than 1% of global emissions. How cowardly and insulting it is for the captains of industry to put the burden on private citizens when corporate waste is responsible for the vast majority of greenhouse gasses.
In the words of Garcia Lorca: "I will always be on the side of those who have nothing, and are not even allowed to enjoy the nothing they have in peace". This proposed legislation is nothing short of outright tyranny; an almost cartoonish example of big, unaccountable government run amok. Great video as always, Freddy.

Most people driving 15 year old cars in the US are not enthusiasts, they are low income, retired on social security, or on welfare. So to me this law sounds like an attack on the poor. Is it different in the UK? My truck is a 1994. I don't have it because I think its special, I have it because I bought it for $1800 several years ago an its still running. To buy the equivalent new 4x4 3/4 ton diesel truck, I would have to sell my 3 bedroom house on acreage, an still would not have enough. So even as someone thats doing ok, a law like that would devastate me financially. Someone just getting by, renting their home an driving a beater back an forth to work, how would they be able to go buy a new car.

Victory Motorcycles are good bikes but they stopped production in 2017 with Polaris saying they will produce parts till 2027. So if you buy one today, you can only be sure of parts availability for the next 3 an a half years. After that you have to hope enough still exist to bring in the aftermarket suppliers. They were not big sellers. So I am betting the price of these crash in the next 3 years. They may become valuable later if parts are picked up by someone else. So someone might make money on them. Or they might end up with a bike they cant get parts for an no one wants to buy. We will just have to wait an see.

Bikes from the British bike era have pretty much lost their appeal it's all Japanese and Italian now that attracts the attention.

@@user-lk8lq1vx4t Not sure what you mean with out of control. Any political body needs to be constantly monitored, specially with the lack of transparency in lobbying activities. The EU institutions are no different. If the topic of conversation was e.g. the attempt to undermine cryptography on messaging apps and the attack on citizen's privacy rights, sure (this is actually something that is happening right now). But on this topic, so far, what is being rumored holds no water. It's good EU citizens keep vigilant, but spreading falsehood has no benefit, it actually helps the lobbying groups that might be pushing for such nonsense
