Just bought one used for my son to shoot, alongside my 525 Sporter. The owner of our range was very positive about the Beretta albeit suggested adding a little weight to the stock to give more even balance. Great price as well with case and additional chokes.
I have a S 686 Special, the S stands for sporting, it is a sporting clays special. I remember when I got it back in about 1990 or there about, I would read about them and heard about them and seen adds about them but couldn't get my hands on one. Beretta had them available in Italy and the European countries for about a year before we could get our hands on one here in the USA. I called and talked to Beretta USA in Maryland and they promised to let me know when they would be available, they called and I ordered one, one of the first ones in the USA. I don't shoot anymore but I still love that gun and will die with it, I won may tournaments with it, put around 25,000 to 30,000 rounds through it without one single problem ever. I am a Beretta lover and still love this gun. It has the floral engraving in the silver receiver which is very nice. Great gun for the money, well balanced.
@@cosieman4877 nope, they have the same engraving but the evo is the newer version and has a different choke system which has extended chokes whilst the gun in this vid has flush fitting chokes , there are a few other differences as well, I believe this channel has also reviewed the 686e evo as well.
@@cosieman4877 I have a 686E, it was my first gun and for a good 6 months I thought a 686e evo and 686e were the same thing, before I realised the differences. Here is a fb post I saw outlining the differences: “Original 686E from 1999- 2010 (ish). Nominal bores and mobil chokes(flush fitting), basic woodwork and rubber Beretta recoil pad. 686E EVO (mk 1) 2010/11 to 2014/15 had overbored (Opti) barrels with extended Optima chokes and upgraded woodwork (class 2.5). 2015- 2019 were given vented barrels with extended Optima HP chokes. Both EVO versions also had Microcore recoil pads”
Good review, 686 is a bullet proof gun. Like the 525, nothing goes wrong with them. Arguably cheaper to maintain/repair than a browning purely because many of Brownings parts need to be custom fit. I shoot Brownings, but I still laugh when I see HUGE Browning logos flashing on the screen during the video. You don't see these on browning videos... you need to drop this bias towards browning. Berreta are as good as browning and are better than browning in certain disciplines. Its personal preference. As a browning shooter, you need to do more beretta reviews, their guns deserve it.
I personally don’t find Beretta’s safety catch a fiddle, Browning and Miroku safety catches I find wander over to the middle of the H slot, then when you go to take it off it won’t travel forward, that’s a blasted pain, my favourite has to be the simplicity of the Blaser. I’ve loaded a lot and I really can’t remember any gun pissing about with the selector in the heat of a large flush of birds.
Hi, great review and gun, I have one bought second hand a couple of years ago. The finish on mine is mint with what I would describe as min G4 tiger pattern wood (only 2017 though), it has the external chokes. It shoots consistantly well & Im well made up with it. Question though when did they stop manufacture? Cheers
I thought they stopped manufacturing around 2010 ish, I have one and it’s a 2007 version. I know they brought out a 686E Evo version afterwards. The main obvious difference is the 686 E evo has extended chokes whilst the 686E had flush fitting mobil multi chokes. But apart from that the engraving is pretty much identical
I have one and hate it Low in the comb and balance seems to be front heavy, no comparison to the their other guns such as 682 or the 694 On the plus side they hold there value well especially on a trade in
Hi Martin thanks for this comment I would recommend before you buy your first gun give the team at The Oxford Gun Company a call on 01844 238 308 as they do have some deals on at the moment and can take you out on the shooting school with some if you say you found them though The Shooting Channel they will also give you a free Lesson with your fist gun 01844 238 308 Thanks TSC Team.

My dad has one & I have a 682 gold e, very nice guns, safety/selector doesn't bother me, who uses them once set? If it fits you then you can't fault them.
Yes it will be fine if you would like to call Doug or Toby in the gun room at The Oxford Gun Company on 01844 238 308 they will help you and if you say you have seen them on The Shooting Channel you may even get a little some thing. Thanks TSC Team.
I have one .I shoot well with it and find it the second to nothing. just look at its prize winning pedigree. Possibly the first rung on the ladder of "as good as any in the right hands " gun. And ime not a berretta fan you couldn't give me a berretta auto it would go straight in the bin I owned a Technice what a wheelbarrow of crap that was . But i love this gun.

Great video. I have had mine since 2007, bought it new, fantastic gun. Have seen more than 30k in shots, been serviced 3 times, absolutely love mine.

Great to see a 686E reviewed as there’s lots of reviews of the 686E Evo but none of the 686E! So thank you so much for doing this review!

I absolutely love my trusty S682X Trap for sporting. It’s reliable and the weight is perfect for a nice smooth swing.

Thank you again David.
Like my barrels a lil heavy feeling up front & love my berettas

Optima Chokes NOT Optima HP

Briley or Teague
I hate it when you have to start adding stuff to a gun, especially an expensive one, to make it where it should be.
I had a beautiful 686 years ago. Stupidly traded it for something dumb I’m sure. Regret that every day.
