Conscious and unconscious water user rescue by kite

- This video was developed to help guide methods in which kitesurfers can rescue conscious and unconscious water users in trouble.
Conscious -
1. Identify a water user in trouble and in need of help.
2. Approach the person from an upwind position and assess the dangers
3. Ask the person if they need help to return to the shore.
4. If so, instruct the person to hold onto the rear of the harness before proceeding to body drag to shore
5. If the person is in stress and posing a danger to you, use the power of your kite to separate yourself from the person before asking them to relax and try again.
6. Reach the shore and ensure that all parties are safe
7. Log the rescue at www.kiteboardingaus.com.au/rescue
Unconscious -
1. Identify that there is another kiteboarder in trouble and in need of help.
2. Approach the person from an upwind position and assess the dangers
3. If their head is underwater, elevate head immediately
4. Use ‘Hip Drag Rescue Technique’ to body drag person to shore.
5. Once arrived at shore, eject your first safety system to disarm the kite
6. Use the ‘One Man Drag’ to bring the person to the shore
7. Immediately signal for help from the nearest person and call an ambulance
