- We have received many questions on how we clean AirPods, so here's the full video with explanations.
This is an educational video. This method always worked for us, but we have never checked if someone with no experience would get the same results. Please don't try this on a good working pair of AirPods, and do this at your own risk.

To anyone finding this, I was skeptical of using that much liquid (I used isopropyl instead), but it works great and the air pods are 100% fine. Fantastic tutorial!
Oh my god thank you SO MUCH! I have tried SO MANY cleaning techniques and nothing worked until I tried SPECIFICALLY windex and a paint brush like in the video. 2 YEARS WITHOUT FULLY FUNCTIONING AIRPODS. And now they work like new. You are a hero without a cape. I can enjoy listening to music again.
Applying some light heat very briefly will melt the ear wax down enough to clean it out if it is stuck in stubborn places! Great video!!
What should I use to heat it up?
@@difhrbelsidhdbsk5317 a hairdryer should be safe 😁
@@corvxnite thank you
Leave it in a hot car too would probably have the same effect
Thank u bro u helped me
Bro, you’re a lifesaver!! AirPods sound as good as new, the vacuum was a good idea. I’ve cleaned it with alcohol before but didn’t think of using a vacuum to get the liquid out.
Well done!👏
Thank you so much for this. My left airpod was way quieter than my right. After I saw this video I just took a toothbrush and tried it and it just saved me a bunch of money!
To ensure the AirPods don’t get sucked up into the vacuum, put a think sock or nylons over the opening.
I just use the crevice tool. The nozzle is not wide enough for the AirPod to go through :)
I kept getting notifications that I was blasting my AirPods too loud. Just cleaned them out using your method and realized why I had to play it so loud. They must have been clogged inside, your method worked great, you just saved me from buying new AirPods. Thank you!
Well done! Thanks for sharing your experience :)
Thank you so much for the cleaning recommendations! I was about to throw away the airpods, and now I listen to music with the same pleasure as I used to :-)
Thank you sooooo much!!!!! I was thinking I had to go get new ones. But I can here out of them so much better!!!!
Happy to help :)
Thanks, helped me a lot. Left one was super quiet compared to right, this fixed it.
For anyone looking for a simple way to do this at home, you can very easily do all of these steps with windex and a toothbrush! And anyone doubting the ligitimasy of this video or these comments... DONT! This man is underated and he earned his sub from me! Great video man!
This is the BEST airport cleaning tutorial hands down. Literally the only one that worked to clean mine. Fantastic job and awesome walk-through! Thank you so much because I thought mine were just shot and was about ready to buy more
so it’s defenitly okay to put window cleaner on them
@@benedictclenton7822 yes fully
@@M4lici0uswait so it wont affect the audio because of the liquid?
Wait, he was in an airport?
Thank you so much for this! I’ve used a toothpick to clean out some of the more superficial wax in the past but this had a much bigger impact!
Sounds like new :)
Glad it was helpful! Well done!
Thank you sir! You saved my dirty airpod! The vaccume helped alot of sucking out all of the grime. I brush it gently and repeated the process about 7 time before it is 100% clean. The sound and the bass is so much better. Once again thank you!
Thank you so much man! Guys feel free to try this on your airpods. My right one was softer and i tried this method but with alcohol and putted less liquid and you can dry it with ear stick. it worked so well that i even had to clean the left one because now the left one was softer.
Well done :) I'm glad it helped :)
dude such an easy fix! life saver. thanks dude.
Thank you so much this worked so well😭 absolutely no sound was coming out of the front AirPod speakers and I did this for about half an hour and they’re like brand new AirPods!
Well done 👏 I'm glad it helped!
Is it okay if we try to clean with the hydrogen peroxide?
@@faizmunshi9455 that will help get the outer wax out but it might be to dense and weird to get the inner wax out!
Mate, I think I love you
Thanks heaps for the help! Worked like a charm ❤️
You are number one!
Now my AirPod sound as new
Thank you very much
Thank you so much for this!!
My left airpod was so much lower than the right, I was scared to use the window cleaner since it's watery but after trying this my airpods sounded so clear, they're like brand new!
There I was thinking I needed to buy new ones 🤦♀thank god I stumbled upon your tutorial
this worked perfectly. thankyou so much
Worked great thanks!
This actually worked. Wow my right airpod was basically mute and now it’s just as good as the left. Thank you bro
Works like a charm, after not being able to understand lyrics in a train etc. Now its deafiningly loud and i love it
my airpods have been at low volume for 2 years now and FINALLY I found a video that brung them back, I was tempted to buy new ones very soon. THANK YOU
I use rubbing alcohol, a Qtip, and vacuum cleaner. I've used this method on my cell phone speakers for years. Works on ear pods too
I warm up the WindowCleaner a little bit, helps, the process.
Nice video ty
ty bro, that really helped me, tho i was scared that window liquid was pouring out of little side speaker, but for now it works really great
Thank you so much! I was just about to give up on my AirPods and then you came along
Omg after u get over the fear of a liquid cleaning agent screwing up my electronic device, you will soon realize that it is all worth the risk. And I did this at work. We have everything I need here. My makeup bag has an eyeshadow brush I’m not using at the moment, we have windex on hand, plus, a vacuum cleaner. It was meant to be! Lol. I did a few passes, waited 2 minutes of soak time in between each and made sure I vacuumed it all up very well each time. Slowly but surely you can start to see the two circles beneath the mesh which means… by golly you’ve done it!! You’ve cleaned out your icky wax. Lol. Amazing I tell u. Give it a try, works great in Hawaii 🤙🏼🤙🏼 Mahalo for the video. I was so close to buying myself a new airpod. Thank goodness for RUclips and people with crafty skills. Lol
“By Golly” is killing me 😭💀
Thank you so much,my AirPod become new again with this technic👍👍💪🏼
this helped a lot, my airpods are now as loud as they used to be when i bought them,ty for the vid
OMG IT WORKED THANK YOU!!!!
YESSSS THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! They sound so much better😭
Omg it worked! I was going to get a new left AirPod but you save me money 😊
Worked great thank you
This video helped so much thanks
Almost buy a new one, thanks to your vid, mine work perfectly now!
Thanks so much , tried almost everything with no luck but this trick worked for me !!!
Well done👏
Thank you so much your a lifesaver 🙏
Great video, thank you
one of my headphones wasnt playing as loud as the other one but i did this like 5 times and its perfect now, thanks a lot i thought i will have to buy new ones tip: just make sure the vacuum cleaner doesnt suck the airpod inside that would be bad
Works, thanks!
thanks so much man my airpods sound so good now
Thank you so much!!!
Thnku it really work
It really worked thanks
dude the best tutorial, almost thinking my AirPods were damaged! thank you
Bro… what is this magic. So I had a pair, after a year the volume was so low I bought a new pair. Same thing started happening to the new pair. Imagine what it’s like sitting in public transport listening to music on full blast but hearing the people around you better than your music. So I watched this video, tried it on my new pair, and was baffled to say the least. Now, I remembered the old pair was hid somewhere, I tried this technique on that pair, and believe me when I tell you I had no initial hope. I thought death was eternal but these babies are back to life and doing better! Thanks!
Well done! I'm glad it helped :)
Is it ok if i use a window cleaner thats meant for other things to like cleaning taps and some metallic stuff ?
Thanks a lot
Genius bro thanks
if i will do it with alcohol insted and then use the vacuum, do you think it will work?
and you never had a problem after doing that?
Is there anything you can use other than a vacuum?
Do you have a video on cleaning the airpod microphone grille?
Would windex work for the window cleaner?
bro thank u so much
for those who are scared or doesnt have a small enough vacuum nozzle, you can use a straw and suck through it but be careful u might get a taste from the water and soap
lol
🤢🤢🤢
Double z! I thought you meant to tape the straw to the vac nozzle
💀
you can put a napkin over the end you put in your mouth that way the gunk gets on the napkin and not in your mouth
don’t have any window cleaner, but i do have something called like isopropyl alcohol? i saw someone in the comments say they used alcohol, would isopropyl alcohol work?
Dude thank you!!!!! I haven’t wanted to use my AirPods for like a year now cause I couldn’t hear anything even on max volume. Now it’s too loud on just half volume!!
👏 I'm glad it helped :)
Would you think give a heat with heat gun to break down grease and warm liquid would help ?
is there another alternative for the e vacuum?
thank you so much!!!
You're welcome!
Doesnt they break when u clean it with water?
I used a toothpick and putty and I have putty stuck in the holes a bit. Can I get it out the same way?
How do I know that the specific airpods might break because of the liquid cleaner? You know... electronics. Or are they all designed to be immune to it? Thanks
i’m nervous about using windex on my airpods, but is it actually safe to use it on them?
Would the same thing work with iPhone speakers?
Dankeschön!!!!!!
cracking video! Could you make a video for also cleaning airpods case? Thanks a lot!
Hey! I clean mine often because my ear wax is very wet, and let me tell you he’s using way too much liquid and window cleaner will take way too long like his video. The best thing to use is hydrogen peroxide. For AirPods: Put a little on a cotton swab/q tip (just enough that it’s damp) and clean the mesh. Take a needle and clean around the edge where the white part rises above the mesh. Heat it for 10 seconds on low heat with a blow dryer (or heat gun if you don’t have a blow dryer). Suck it fast (I do it with my mouth but you can do it with a vacuum) and it’ll be brand new. For the case: hydrogen peroxide again! Wet a cotton swab- I soak it then squeeze it so it’s basically like ringing out a cloth. Wipe around everything on top and down the holes where the AirPods charge. You’ll probably need a few cotton swabs because they’re way dirtier than they look. Use light heat or the cool setting of a blow dryer to dry, and keep open for a few minutes. Make sure it is fully dry before plugging in because it WILL melt your AirPods if the case is even a little wet while charging!
Hope this helps☺️ I got this info straight from Apple and it’s the absolute safest way so you don’t damage the pods or case.
@@kailenepower5827 thanks a lot, I will keep this in mind! Really appreciated!
Thank you! For months I’ve been tilting my left one in the most uncomfortable position to be able to hear with it, I thought I needed to buy new ones.
I’ve tried this before and can confirm it works. Someone needs to make a vacuum nozzle attachment specifically for cleaning AirPods. Any other method of trying to clean these, basically just pushes anything into the mesh.
Why are you using window cleaner over rubbing alcohol?
I forgot to add that it helps to cover over part of the nozzle with a piece of tape, so that you can get more suction.
Yo tysm I didnt think this would actually work my AirPods have been quiet for so long
It worked 👍
Does the window cleaner work the same as rubbing alcohol?
You made my day by following that new method and it actually worked ! My air pods are clean as new .. thank you!
You're welcome!!
What if you were to add a tiny sprinkle of baking soda when you apply the first liquid on the first round?
Is it possible to remove the speaker grill/chamber
Does this also work on the Airpods 3? Apple says they are only sweat resistant but definitely not waterproof.
Thank it helps
You’re welcome!
And how long do I wait to use after putting all that liquid in ? Or with it sounds normal
Dzięki 💪
wait will water do the same trick or does it have to be window cleaner
For some reason I expected the AirPod to get sucked in by the vacuum 😂😂😂
can i use water or whats that liqued
with glass cleaner? thx
Would this work better with a custom 3d printed attachments for the vacuum? To make an almost perfect seal with the airpods
I think you answered your own question there 😂
It’s so satisfactory
Thanks for watching
That's the best way.It's logical.
Are these the kind that can get water in them. The pro?
just got here after watching your visit at insider :)
- glad that you also show how they are taken apart
ok, maybe realising they can't be taken apart without permanent damage
- at least this is what i think after watching the ifixit on this item
Thanks for visiting :) They can be taken apart and put back together, but it's not very straightforward
@@PhoneFixCraft interesting! I like your positive energy. GG! :p
@@levetbyck Thank you :)
Thank you ! You just saved me from buying a new pair !
Would rubbing alcohol work as well oe even better?
would you clean the microphone mesh the same way?
Microphones are usually clean on AirPods, it might be a bit riskier with microphone cleaning. I’ll need to look into this
What kind of window cleaner
What about the side speakers
Does this work with 3rd gen?
Thank you so much!! This video saved me from buying a new pair of AirPods 😁
You're welcome ;)
This is the most efficient method ever i left my airpods at my friends for about 2 weeks and when i got them back they were 1/10 of the volume they use to be and I was bamboozled looked up every tip and trick to boost the volume because i thought that was issue but no they were dirty asfk from my friend😂💀
Nice video - but I would be very worried about putting any liquid any where near electric parts - are you sure???
It worked every time so far. Also it's a last resort for them AirPods, as they were complytely unusable and otherwise would end up in trash.
If you're really worried about that you could use Isopropyl Alcohol, ideally 99% but I can't find that where I live so I use 91%. I doubt it would work as well as this windows cleaner but it evaporates very quickly and is very unlikely to damage any electronics. I use it without mercy on pretty much every electronic I've ever fixed or cleaned and have never had any issues.
@@LnnyOsoTo I used 50% lol
-maybe a combination of window cleaner and isopropyl could be a “game changer”-
- -should look up if isopropyl can be mixed with detergents (maybe a solution with 10% “soap”..)-
Actually..nvm, I I’m far from being able to suggest anything better
I’ve just read that it’s recommended to use a 99% (would be great to have, if it’s wasn’t because of how rare it is to find - because of safety laws).
Could imagine how the 99% maybe easily would mix up with any water solutions left inside the device and then better evaporate and dry up any surfaces..
Also not sure how long isopropyl will stay at it’s original alcoholic level (when the bottle has been opened the first time..)
