    Did Avalon end up in Vista, or was it scrapped?

    • @WindowsOnWindows
      @WindowsOnWindows  9 лет назад +7

      Joel's Dad After the reset, developers were not allowed to code in .NET (i.e. Avalon). There was one exception, it would seem - Windows Media Centre in Vista is Avalon-based. However, none of Vista's UI elements use Avalon as far as I'm aware.

    • @NetRolller3D
      @NetRolller3D 4 года назад

      @@WindowsOnWindows IIRC Windows Media Center has always been a .NET app since XP, and even in Vista and 7, it's only "plain" .NET 1.1 or maybe 2.0 (Avalon was part of .NET 3.0).

    Wouldn’t it be cool if Microsoft, or a third party developer, took this build, got all these new features working, fixed all the bugs, finalised everything, and released it as its own OS?
    The question is would Microsoft allow third party developers to fix and release this as it is technically abandoned ware but still Microsoft’s work, I don’t think Microsoft would take the time to fix this

    i wish windows longhorn was actually made, instead of, well..., Vista. It looks really intresting, and it would've been better to just release windows longhorn build 4074, then work on other stuff, rather than just Windows Vista. Than again, it probably looked amazing at the time, but still, Windows Longhorn was so ahead of it's time! It's amazing!

    • @youtubeuser8522

      Windows Vista was ahead of its time, as well. No one seems to appreciate this, however.

  • @Leonard_MT
    @Leonard_MT 4 года назад +3

    Does it DWM?

    • @phantomofearth1
      @phantomofearth1 2 года назад +3

      TL;DR: yes, but it's a .NET implementation that needs 2 missing XAML files to be added and often an Aero theme for 4074 (if you want Aero glass, otherwise it will render simple borders, in which case it's better to set it up as a service). It's very buggy and causes weird glitches on the desktop.
      I know this was commented a year ago but thought I'd just answer this since no one has answered - yes, but it's a weird .NET implementation that renders weird borders by default and needs two missing XAML files to work. It also needs an Aero theme from build 4074 (you can reconstruct it yourself), in some cases it can render Aero glass instead of weird green/blue borders. I've tried it on 4088 and 4093 with a patched glass 'Aero' theme: 4088 rendered weird green borders while 4093 rendered full Aero glass.
      The DWM in 4088/4093 is much different to the one in builds 4074-4082. The 4088/4093 DWM can black screen randomly, but it also animates some things like the Start menu and windows. The 4093 DWM also can be configured to run as a service, rendering simpler borders but not needing a 4074 Aero theme.
