This video is pure gold. A lot of childhood memories from 80's. Remember how bombastic was this sound at live at that time. When you compare the plane sounds nowadays it feels boring. I used to do a lot of drawings of this boeings from Varig when I was a kid. Thanks for this time machine video. Great!!
OMG!
Dies ist gut 25 Jahre her.
Ahhhh, the fantastic music that is also known as the JT8D.. Incredible footage mate! That is one hell of a sound! Liked a lot :D Huge congratulations on hitting 10M views too mate :D
The mighty JT8D, powered a lot of stuff back in the day. Small fan diameter allowed the gear to be short, which made ground handling easier as airports without much in the way of services. Later, it was a pain when more efficient, large-diameter engines came out.
Hehehe! Too much decibels for the microphone: at 3:09 it simply distorted and cracked. I woke up a lot of people at dawn flying this plane. I was happy and didn't know it...
@@user-ix5qy7um6o CERTAIN microphones can handle high sound levels, not this one. Sure enough that -200 are noisy and disturbing, but there are several other 737-200 videos on youtube that do not cracks like that during takeoff. Even when we are near an event like that our ears do not sense such pops with so much intensity. In 2010 I was responsible for record and analyse the sound level with calibrated and certified equipment on two major airports in Brazil and registered that findings on an official Environmental Impact Report, noise section, working for a contractor. All that recordings wasn't distorted like this one in the video because our equipment was of high quality. Another clarification: at the time when I was flying Boeing 737-200 I was happy. Now that I'm not anymore, I feel really sad... and sorry for the people I woke up at dawn!
Can never watch this Take-Off without having "longing tears" in my eyes ... And ~ to your 10 Million Views, Matthias ... The reason for that is ... no doubt ...that ... YOU * ARE * SIMPLY * THE * BEST !!!! CONGRATULATIONS from your # 1 fan from Canada, Karin ;o)
As always a great catch and a BLAST from the PAST !!! First I wondered why the engines have been shrunked and what a sunny day You´ve had today in Bern ?! :-)))))
I don't think why the call the jt8d turbofans when they operate the same way as turbojets so the jt8d is actually turbojets with higher bypass so it doesn't need water injection what makes me curious is why they call jt8ds turbofans what makes them turbofans
Strange to think I used to see these 732s at manchester airport all the time.. Looked soo sexy in BA landor colours.. that at 3:08.. I rememeber feeling that in my chest and gut such a powerful sound... I flew on a 200 as well on a Ryan Air flight... That plane had seen better days though.
Last time I was a passenger on the 200 model was in the late 1980's out of KDTW (Detroit). Sadly I was in Colorado Springs, Colorado the day the United 737-200 crashed: March 3, 1991. It was rather an odd day 😟. I lived in the Denver Metropolitan Area and was down in Colorado Springs for a weekend visit. UAL Flight 585 was making a short flight that day from Denver. The only positive aspect of this tragedy was that the aircraft was almost empty; 25 souls in total though were lost.
@@MattAviationChannel I havent seen a 200 in over a decade and its been well over 20yrs flying on one. They sounded awesome from what i can recall. The whine and shrill of those bad boys spooling up was absolutely astounding to hear. They SCREAM compaired to todays turbo fannys. KEEP'EM COMING👍
It was not possible to film from another position. But look at this video from another B732 which took off from the other runway: ruclips.net/video/VI4-Mssm2sw/видео.html Cheers Matt

Great footage from the archives, I love the noisy old -200. Big congratulations on hearing 10,000,000 views, that is one very impressive milestone!
Thank you very much for your kind support!! Much appreciated! Cheers Matt

YMML SpottingTeam ...
I am glad I have had the opportunity to fly the 732 three separate times; twice with Southwest Airlines and once with the now defunct Air Cal.
Those small engines are so weird ;) Thumbs up for sharing this rare catch!
Thank you!!
They are turbofans. That's what the D stands for in JT8D (ducted). Two stage fan and a bypass ratio of roughly 1:1.
These are some simple turbines lol

Never seen the 737-200 in real... Very beautiful footage Matt, unique!! Well done !
Thank you!!

Fantastic video, Matt! Gotta love that sound indeed! Liked!
Thank you!
First plane I ever flew on from Chicago to Dayton. Great catch!!
Nice to remember it! I flew twice on a B732 from Geneva to London Gatwick with British Airways. Good experience :) Cheers Matt
Great to see and more importantly, to hear the classic Boeing. Very nice.
Thank you very much!!
Ah, great sound Matt..The way a 737 should sound !! lol....Good old JT8D....Congrats on getting to 10 Mill views...Nice one....Steve.-:)
Thank you Steve :) Much appreciated!!

Thank you Trevor! A blast from the past but this time from me ;) Cheers Matt

Thank you, Bertin! It was awesome to spot this B737-200 back in July 2011. Cheers Matt
See it often at Farmingdale-Republic Airport on Long Island, NY. Nice looking bird.
WOW very cool!
Jet2 still fly the 737-300 out of Glasgow and Edinburgh. That's a lot of views Matt, well done. :)
Oh wow!! Even this fact would be worth a journey to Scotland. A visit to the beautiful Scottish Highlands is on my bucket list! Cheers Matt
Great sound its sounds like a fighter jet very loud powerful takeoff
Thanks for watching!
That's alright its a very old Boeing 737-200 like the colours on it

Velhos tempos de VARIG Caso aqui no Brasil
parabéns pelo Vídeo

Boeing 737-200 is very cute engine jet just like new VIP Plane-style to takeoff at Bern.
And maybe use for Boeing 737-200BBJ only.
Thank you!
matthiashaenni You're welcome!
Here at Aruba we sometimes get Venezolana and Avior in 737-200 equipment
those motors... i like
Thanks

the best from Boeing
I love the Boeing 737-200! Good old classic 737 🙂
Matt, what is the max size jet that Bern can safely accomodate as it pertains to runway length, width, clearance issues, etc..., just curious
This one is really close to the limit. The biggest visitors to Bern were Boeing 737-800, Airbus A320.
Fliegt die noch?Wenn ja kommt die ab und zu noch aufs mösli ?(oder sonst eine 732)
You have a typo in the description: "This classic Boeing 727-300 N912NB..."
Thanks ;) It is correct now.
Nice video
Thanks a lot. Much appreciate your kind words!
matthiashaenni :-)
Too bad you didn't get the takeoff from the front. The whine the fan makes against the inlet guide vanes as it spools up is so cool.
It was not possible to film from another position. But look at this video from another B732 which took off from the other runway: ruclips.net/video/VI4-Mssm2sw/видео.html Cheers Matt
It seems like that only one engine would not kept it flying
the database lists this as a 737-3Y0
esse jato pertence a Alguma empresa?
It is a private jet registered to SCI Aviation LLC.
The engine for the early 737 look weird like the 737 200 100 and 300
Look at the 747 200 it engines look like plane engines now
same engine as the F14 without the steriods..
