  • One of Malawi’s talented and gifted musicians, who has entertained us for so many years both here in his home land and other countries is the legendary - Sir Lucius Banda. I think as a nation we really do not have to wait for these heroes to go then we applaud and appreciate them. Let us appreciate, support and show them our support while they are still alive. Let them see, feel the love, how much they mean to us and at the same time inspired other young musicians or artists to the big stage. I think as a nation this is one part we miss out. We have created so many called awards and yet we skip these moments and focus on other areas. How about even creating some statues for our very own? We need a shift and a positive mindset change for a better Malawi.
We have lost many talented people in the last 2 years, historians and writers included that did so much for Malawi but were not even recognised when they were still alive. May their souls rest in peace.
Sir Lucius Banda, on behalf of many - we would like to thank you so much for all the hard work you have put in your music. Your music has made us think outside the box, laugh, sing out loud, love one another but above all brought us together and dance like there is no tomorrow, we Thank You so much for that. Your talent and gift have inspired many young talents in so many areas. On one of our trips around Malawi ( as we promote Malawi’s tourism sector) we met two young men, Chikumbutso Leison (guitar) and Kasimu Guda (drums). The two love music so much and in 2006 they started singing together and created a band. In 2015, the talent was spotted and they were given a platform to be entertaining guests at Kara o Mula in Mulanje where they play till today. They are the Kara O Mula Band.
When we heard the beautiful music they were playing, we could not resist but ask how they started and where they got the inspiration from. This is where your name once again was mentioned. We know there are so many others you have inspired and keep inspiring and this is the reason we are appreciating you today.
Please enjoy this clip we did of them performing one of your songs “Kuyenda Ngati Nkhunda”.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Prosperous 2020
