What is Analogue Solutions Maximus?

- Analogue Solutions has done it again.. gone and made another MASSIVE synth. Maximus is its first poly synth... and what a synth.
Here's a review and demo showing how all 8 voices are almost a complete synth including their own sequencer, with global control ensuring it can work as a poly.
I've been having too much fun using it like an 8 track analogue workstation!

First post gets one free right?
no, you didnt name the tune -- Being boiled -- I claim the prize!!
Haha … should’ve thought on and done it myself! … if only. 😂👏
@@annother3350I remember hearing that track for the first time on John peel show in 1978 and thought WTF -what a track -prob one of the most influential tracks ever written
No dude, it's polyphonic, you get 8 free 😊
This isn’t just an epic synth and fantastic engineering, this is also a piece of art!
So much desire 😍😍😍
agreed all their synths are superb works of playable art.
Not only bringing back glorious 70s analog tone, but also 70s synth prices! New car or Maximus? Decisions, decisions!
Haha.. too right! If you can afford a truck you can afford a synth. I’ve forgotten what ad that was for. It’s the complete experience (wish I’d have though of that 😂😂👏)
better a Maximus , it is more fun
@@StarskyCarr In fact if you want to bring it on stage or anywhere you need the money for 2 trucks... and some roadies...
That’s a house in some places
Thanks for creating this. So much fun to listen to and just HUGE sounds.
Loving the tunes you created with this beast Starsky...if I win the lottery tomorrow I'll treat you to one to keep making these bangers
I love that there are companies making stuff like this, but it's unobtainium for most people
Unfortunately only too true!
I'm so glad that I got me a Telemark v2 in 2014 and an Oberkorn mk3 in 2016
Not true..check my comment.
It's really impressive. I got curious and looked up the price and let's just say it is conceivably possible this is out of my price range.
About as much as a new compact econobox lol.
Great demo
Had a go on this at Synthfest Sheffield.
It's a beautiful looking and sounding thing
28:20 - every time the main unit is sold, Analog Solutions crew makes this dance ))
Haha I bet!
Sounds wonderful deff a dreamsynth it's great that a company are making these future real classics
its amazing.. you can lose yourself for hours.
Looks and sounds awesome! Really excited to see this and the Ample drop next year. Would be great with my Leipzig v2.
What a beautiful synth. Thank the gods for companies like Analogue Solutions for keeping these kind of monster synths available. So damn good!! What else is amazing is your Disorder version please please please release it!
you have the money to buy it ??? how do you do ?
@@BarbieChaite Thank you for this polite question. I'm doing okay. How do you do?
1 Timothy 2:5 KJV - For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Officially my fav version of Listen to the Voice of Budda. Love it! Well done as always.
High praise indeed… wow thanks
Sounds lovely!
O M G ! Gotta grab my studio headphones to appreciate that monster sound.
I thought my Ableton had gone wonky and started playing my cover of Disorder in the background!!
Recognised the bassline at first, but then heard the "slap the MIDI for Barneys guitar thru an arpeggiator and synth" part and had to double check it was coming from the video!
That's not a synth, it's a freaking mainframe. (: Thanks for the demo! And thank you for making Sericulture my word of the day.
Haha... not one you have to use very often!
I got 20 minutes on it at the synth show in Sheffield a few weeks ago. It is astonishing.
Oh it sounds gorgeous! Makes me appreciate my AS Telemark V2 a bit more :)
looks like it came off the "Alien" set
Niesamowity dźwięk cieszy zmysły
Hot Dayum! That was great!
I really would love to see you come out with an analogue drum machine in the spirit of legacy analogue drum synths.
otherworldly, sounds fantastic and looks better
Man, that is one hell of a synth to be sure. Even if I had the money, it would be very hard for me to justify purchasing one of those.
that is the most incredible looking and sounding synth it looks like the control panel from THE starship enterprise
So practically it has 16 oscillators? I see HUGE drones...
Exactly.. I’ve not demo’d anything like that, but using the sequencers on a slow LFO to drone then tweaking. Been doing a bit of that today.
8:36, thank you I was waiting for that true poly demo since I bought it blind. You are the boss of the synth demos.
nice bit of joy division
That thing looks like the control panel to a Star Destroyer. Sounds as massive and imposing as one, too!
awesome
what a beast!
… but what about the synth? 😂
For the price are huge synth, amazing
You hear a huge synth, I hear Gary Numan's very soul trapped in circuitry, just as he would wish it ;)
Haha
Joy division !! Good sounds
24:24 I thought we were in for a bit of Paul McCartney's Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time for a moment there.... 😛
Haha… brilliant - I definitely missed a trick there!
Looks cool and extremely expensive. Kinda looks like a Giant VC3
Wot a sound, wot a f...ng beast. At 24.000£ it's exactly waht I need. But, just a slight detail, I've not the fortune I deserve! 😁
And I realy appreciate your quick HL's voice of buddha cover! 👍
As much as I’d want a new Oberheim Eight Voice, it would be a lot more work to set up something polyphonic.
Nowadays, the tuning of each SEM for a uniform sound can definitely be done better.
But after hearing the Maximus, it reminds me that nothing sounds as thick and rich as eight full monosynth voices playing together. It would be more work, but the unmatched sound quality just might outweigh all that hassle.
quite a bit more than 20k, it's 27k incl. VAT (no keyboard). seems amazing though
Analogue solutions maximus xD xD.... full respect for the title.... and damn that sound is FAAAT!
Disorder never sounded so good 🔥🔥🔥🔥
In case we can't afford it or don't have the room, could we have something similar between this and the Akai Timbre Wolf? Maybe like a Vermona Perfourmer but with its own keys. It's just so cool to have all the controls for each voice.
you can try to polychain some behringer synths, may be.
True, like the Cat which looks totally cool. Four of them could be fun but then still would have to add keyboard. I might eventually try perfourmer and keystep pro.
WOW is all i can say to this beast and thats coming from someone whose not an analog fan but i like this its hgot balls
was that Joy Division's 'Disorder' played in the background @ 1:20?
Yeah.. the fuller version is played at the end.
Sounds beautifully reminiscent of the Oberheim OBXa.
When I’m rich and famous you know this will be in my studio
Looks and sounds amazing, it should do at that price. Is there no sign wave for voice or lfo ? ? There’s no pitch and modulation wheels. If only it had a natural walnut wood casing : ) … think I’ll stick with my Stylophone.
No, you can only get a sine by reducing the filter. But it’s not as flexible as having a dedicated wave. Not many synths do tbh. But normally you might have a triangle. The 2 CV touch strips can be used as mod/pitch wheels.. and I’m sure they’d make one in walnut if you asked nicely 😀
@@StarskyCarr cheers for your reply Starsky, I was just thinking that a sine wave gives a smoother modulation. Great demo, and a nice nod to Ian Curtis at the end.
Sounds great. Truly a massive sound. Surely a future classic.
But honestly that panel would put me off, as decorative as it is. I'd rather have a more humble seperate poly and a more humble mono so I'm not having to adjust all those parameters if I decide I want to switch things up.
It's always a balance between how much time to spend on sound design and actually writing music isn't it?
Money and space no object tho, I'd have some good fun with this
Wow this is absolute monster . As per Analogue Solution sounds soo f##$king deep and I don't swing that word around alot trust me . 🤯🤯😵😵😵
Lucky bar-steward oof !!!
Why is it so small?
Please tell me you do a supersaw , if not please do a short follow up.
Haha of course you can have 16 detuned saws. Pretty sure that’s how I made the huge unison mono sounds in the video. So it’s there…. 😀
Wish the global section had a detune knob to spread the voices a bi. Would save a lot of time it looks like when switching between mono and poly modes
It does. ✌️
This is the synth I would build. Except I guess now I have to build a 16 voice.
Similar price to a used Jupiter 8. Not sure which I’d go for.
Love to have this machine but would have to stick it in the kitchen
So DOPE..killa gorilla.😊
OH . . . HELLLO ! ! !😁 ! ! !
Ding dong!
My sentiments exactly !😃@@StarskyCarr
Each voice has a sequencer?? With a patternizer?!
No patternizers in these - tbh sure very simple 16 steps with pitch and cutoff control
You certainly can’t complain you don’t have access to all parameters hey 😊
Yes, buddha is waiting and watching, and is not an outside being cause it's our true nature of our minds. The ultimate wisdom we do not pay attention to, so we practice. It's said that it's within all of our grasps in a single lifetime. "Buddha" is an honorific as "awakened" and tathagata is "thus gone one", which is also an allusion to the idea of "stream entrant" that has "crossed to the other shore". gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha or “Gone, gone, gone to the other shore beyond. O what an awakening, all hail!” this is the mantra at the end of the Heart Sutra uttered by Avalokiteśvara which uses the imagery of "stream entrant". It's also translated as “Gone, gone, gone all the way over, everyone gone to the other shore, enlightenment, hail!" The imagery is pretty much the same. Buddha mind or tathagatagarba, is within us, and we can all cross to the other shore. Metaphorically speaking of course.
Want.
Did you get one yourself, or did you borrow it off Ty?
Ah yes The Widower.
this synth is just a digital emulation in fancy shell
😂😂 can you imagine! That would be hilarious
I’m very close to selling 7 synths to buy this…..
Normally you’d save space selling 7 to buy 1. I’m not so sure here 😂
@@StarskyCarr The thought of just simplifying the studio to this, a Minimoog and software is appealing. 😉
@@final_mile_music9713 I did something similar quite a few years ago, but bit by bit it grew again 🤦♂️
Those 8 BBD's 🤩... such a shame the delay times can't be modulated though.
Always some naysayer who'll never be buying it anyway - some people just want the moon on a stick. Thanks for the 'insight'.
Hmm. Mortgage or synth. Mortgage or synth ... mortgage for synth? Or do I just buy seven Geminis?
In for the Behringer clone!
[architect] No.
Do you own this magnificent machine?
If only … 😀
Analogue Solutions? Analogue Problems I'd day. ;-). Reckon you'd need a month to make this sound good! And a lot of patience.
Ironically, to initially show off this monster's capabilities, he then proceeds to play songs made with very cheap - for the time - compact 70s synthesizers. Priceless.
Even more ironically, you’re commenting on the first track which was not based on anything 😂 and the final track that was guitar based 🤷♂️🤦♂️ 😂😂 but yeah I did beef up being boiled. I didn’t want to make it sound identical - but bigger and bolder.
Behringer! Where you at?
From the website: main unit £22500 AS400 optional keyboard £1900
I thought the AS400 was an old IBM mainframe? I worked with those years ago, weighed a ton! Personally, I'd buy a top of the range laptop for VCV Rack, and keep the 20 grand change. Really. 😉
Answer: About $29,000.
lol
Sounds amazing now how the funk can I get 100k
£22000 to you.
what a brute 🙂 20k for that level of pot wobble though.....
Wtf $24,000 😮 out thete damn mind
you are rich
😂😂😂 it’s not mine unfortunately
^_^ now I'm less jaleous@@StarskyCarr
A beautiful sound, a superb synth....... but a rather impractical unit at that size and price (£20k.) Who will actually buy it? Not the people who'd make best use of it that's for sure....Except for Jarre or Kraftwerk! I would have also said Vangelis and Mark Shreeve but we've now lost their incredible talents from future music. RIP.
That initial sound would work well with reverb on Autobahn!.....Please, pleeeeease, don't anyone mention Garry Numan, he's not in the same league..... Very much a 4th division player..... a last resort, injured sub even!
Analogue-digital hybrids allowing many memory slots is now a must for modern usability; Behringer have realised this and will be the go to mainstream manufacturer with their future releases I reckon! ...They just need to get the form-factor right and make more non-Eurorack sized (larger) tabletop units to wow the adult users. Roland too messed up totally by making their Boutique series so tiny, toy-like, instead of a grownup's larger format tabletop unit! Such a waste because the units are actually musically superb. They've spoilt it by the ridiculously silly micro controls, making the essential-to-use fine adjustments too fiddly.
There is a strict "no rambling-on" policy on the comments page!
Ridiculous is what it is!
I tend to agree. It seems like a missed opportunity not to have a master set of controls. I mean, I get that it's supposed to be worth all that twiddling in the end, but...
Bruh, we already know what the maximus is. It's the privet jet of the synthesizer world. So out of reach for 99.9% of music artists, it might as well not exist. :/
Yeah but fun to play. Maybe I should’ve dressed up like supercar blondie! 😂
@@StarskyCarr sure for those who actually get to play it. lol do it. I'd thumb up. XD
Pretty. Fussy. Unmodifiable and set in stone.
It's like trying to make a bus by welding 8 cars together.
Yeah, you get eight steering wheels but why...
They'll make maybe three of them.
At that price, what could you do instead with eight(!) $2,500 poly synths?
"Bitcoin accepted here" on their page says all you need to know.
Over priced toy for rich nerds lol the knobs look megga cheap also
Rich nerds need toys too 😂
