Personally I think a better option is to open the seal only half the way and cut it off leaving the second half untouched. This gives you more powder but not too much powder and will not get clogged like little poked holes would
Don't turn the powder upside down to get it out -- instead put the lid on the powder. Keep it upright and shake the jar of powder from side to side gently. The powder comes up beautifully and evenly. I used to be a MUA and that's how I was taught to use loose powder.
When you get too much powder out, tap and wiggle the product. Since the holes are bigger when you take the seal off, portions of the powder will go back in and you can adjust how much you want in the pan. I've been doing this for ages and it works perfectly every time.
I was literally thinking this like too much powder coming out is fine. I just close it and shake/tap the container while upright until I'm left with an amount I can work with. No big deal.
Bare Minerals/Essentials added that feature later. My eyeshadows didn't have that twist shut option. I spent about a week tapping my collection on the table to get the powder back into the container. Then I covered the holes with washi tape. I leave a piece folded onto itself at the end to make a flag tab to pull on to lift off 1 or 2 holes allowing product to the top. Now the airplane jiggle doesn't leave the majority on top of the lid liner.
Apparently some people want to defend cake face to the death!😂😂😂 Im looking at these Bs getting rabid in the comments by the mere SUGGESTION of using less than half a container of setting powder🙄🙄🙄

For people with dry skin that is a huge life saver!! I use probably a little bit more than that for my whole face but honestly I could do that much for my t zone!! I gotta keep it dewy!!!
Right!!! Not to mention that matte cake face just looks like you're dry AF, even if you don't have dry skin. Unless you're 25 or younger, it looks awful to be so matte.😧
I like the powder container Mary Kay uses. You can twist a tab on the top to open the holes. Turn it over to release some powder, twist the tab and it’s closed.
That's smart packaging. I have a similar container I purchased years ago, and I use it to refill my setting powder for less mess. The last thing I want is powder flying everywhere and getting all over my clothes. Especially when I travel and my powder won't be sitting on a flat surface, too much powder comes out of the holes during transport.
@heathersnumber1fan girl, you might be able to find it from ebay / depop without directly buying it from an mlm, there's plenty of options out there too, from lesser known companies. Mine has all the printing rubbed off, but it wasn't Mary Kay
Nah lol many people only set their under eyes so that would be a great amount for that. Or if you have dry skin and can only put a tiny bit on that works great.
Its plenty unless you wanna look like shit. Most of us don't even need powder at all. Just lightly in certain spots. Difference between good and bad makeup
That’s a great tip. I hate getting a powder facial from opening the lid. This is great-it releases a small amount, which also stops waste. If I need more, I can tip it again. Thanks!
This is honestly THE LIFE CHANGING hack for once! I literally spend so much time on opening, taking and closing that powder and also loose lots of it unintentionally. Now I am gonna do so much better! And as I already opened my powder, I am going to clean it, put a selotejp on it, and then make two or three small holes 🕳! 💛
I put a TON of powder on my puff, then dab it on my wrist to get off the excess. This creates an even layer of powder, this hack only works if you use a brush for powder and not a puff/ beauty blender.
@@notoriousalien it’s really not, the excess powder i use to do the other under eye, or other parts of my face that need powder. Even if i didn’t, it’s not a lot of powder just enough to dab off and create and even layer
Thats what I do too 👍 but not a bad tip if it has big holes, it would reduce the amount 😉 I'd probably prick all the holes, as they'd all be reduced, so less will be coming out.
This is a great idea!!!!! I use very minimal powder to keep my skin looking, well, like skin and not the desert and i haaaaaaaate it when it gets all up in there with waaay too much powder!
Omg. I need more powder than that, but this idea is brilliant! I hate how much comes out from my makeup bag moving around. I'm doing this next time, just with slightly bigger holes. Thank you!
Even if you get too much powder on the puff you can fold it in 2 and rub the parts against each other. Thats how some makeup artists do to distribute evenly the powder on the puff. Then when you pat the powder in the face it looks more flawless and blended
But when your powder takes on moisture from humidity in the room, it’ll clog up your room those pin holes and you’re still going to have to remove the seal.
Definitely couldn't do this trick with my finishing powder. I have to shake it so much to get enough out. 😩 so i suppose some companies make the holes as small as they really need to be. But the power foundation i had a few months back really needed this trick, i ended up getting rid cause i got it everywhere 😅
I am so glad I have the elf halo glow setting powder! It has one half of holes and one with no holes and then this rotating thingy on the top to stop the powder.
Great tip for those who like less powder. I'm oily AF so that whole sifter is coming out, but I'll use this for loose highlighter and shadow pigments! 😄
There is a simple solution…shake on table or counter top for 15 seconds with the lid on if too much releases, it shimmies its way back in and you don’t need to use sharp objects or deal with a dirty sticky tab. Don’t do this, just shimmy that packaging closed left to right like you are erasing something until you see the amount you want just like you got that product out but flipped back to right side.
Or pull it off, use a make up brush, tap the excess powder OFF the brush, then tap the container (on all the sides), and the powder goes back into the container. Not hard
How did i not think of this. Instead of taking the foil off baby oil i just poke a hole in the top with a safety pin. Such a good idea thank you so so so much!
If there’s too much on top, I just keep the lid closed and shake the excess back into the holes.
I do this too 😂❤
