      Dr. Sten Ekberg hi I'm new to the channel and I have been getting cold sweaty feet for the past few months and I can't seem to find a way to keep them warm. I even wrapped them up in a heating pad and that warmed them but they were still clammy. Any advice would be nice. thank you and love the channel!

      Dr. Sten Ekberg I did this for ten minutes and I could feel the difference right now. when I started my feet were cold and sweaty like always and after they were hot literally hot and not clammy I want to thank you for your wisdom and knowledge which you have passed on to me and again thank you so much.

    7:43-9:08 Is the explanation of what your body is doing when you do the excercise and in 8:12 he explains the excersice starting with, "... the in breath and....five to six seconds....". I recommend watching those two minutes so you understand why the excercise works. The excercise is basically breathing in 5-6 seconds and breathing out 5-6 seconds, *YOU HAVE TO DO THEM BOTH AT THE SAME SPEED* (as best as you can of course) the speed and time you breathe in and out is what makes the change. Do this 5-10 min 1-2 times everyday:)

    My hands are chronically cold and if prolonged start to tingle like "falling asleep." This happens even in the summer if the a/c is too high. Well they have been cold all morning today and I tried this breathing exercise for about 30 minutes straight and now they are fine. This is a miracle! Such a simple solution to a chronic problem. The human body is so amazing and so is Dr. Ekberg.

      @@Rene-cm6go i was also having this issue but I beleive it’s almost fixed now, after doing intense cardio for at least 30 minutes each day, something that gives your heart a real work out.. getting your heart rate up to 170bpm if you aren’t used to it maybe do it every other day to begin with so your heart can take a recovery day in between

      @@sniperjordan8216 Thanks for reply. I need to do something.. Last week I have low temperature.. about 34-35 Celsius. Not all the time. But I have very cold hands and feet..and I can't make it warmer. So im little bit worried about it.

    I have Raynauds and even after 1-2min of this breathing exercise I got warm fingers/toes. It is really incredible. But it also makes total sense to me. I'm usually a very anxious guy and probably my body is constantly preparing for flight or fight.

    I'm in my 60's, and many times in my life I've heard or read "how you breath is important" and assertions on the proper way to breath. Never until this video have I heard anyone explain a WHY to go along with a claim of HOW. Sympathetic vs Parasympathetic makes it clear to me, and I started practicing, focusing on exhaling for 5+ seconds. I am used to measuring my blood pressure several times a day and taking BP medication based on my daily readings. It has been a week since I have needed the medication, and this morning my blood pressure was 125/88, pulse 74.
    Trying to avoid stress and physical exercise alone have not controlled my blood pressure well enough. Sitting up straight while measuring gives me lower readings, but not low enough. Avoiding stress, physical exercise, sitting up straight while measuring, and *daily practice of long exhales* seems to have done the job.

    I agree, this channel is a goldmine! Thank you Dr. so much. I've struggled with this for most of my life. My body temp has always been about 97.4 or sometimesless. As you were talking, Ibegan doing the breathing exercises and behold! My feet and hands warmed right away. Thank you. I'm not on Keto but have been on Cristy Nikel Code Red Lifestyle since mid Nov. Have lost 53lbs. But, I have always been cold and stressed to the max all of the time. I know this video will change my life even more for the better! Thank you!😊❤

    Absolutely grateful to have watched this video, as. I am a type 2 diabetic. 4 months into reversing (no carbs or grains) but my. Feet have been freezing. After breathing like the doctor instructed for 10 minutes for the first time my feet are warm! Thank God and bless you Doctor..

    When i was younger, i was very thin and all the time had cold hands and feet. I was frozen from the inside out. Then i moved to Japan and began eating fish and miso soup every day, and also taking long hot baths and my feet and hands were no longer cold. Their food definitely improved my health. Think the sea veggies--iodine from the Kelp and extra sodium helped most of all---probably regulated my thyroid gland.

      Good to know. I am thin and have severe cold hands and feet too... Interesting experience with fish, miso soup, and kelp. I just ate miso soup yesterday ha. I will try this more often also with breathing method.

    I am so glad your videos came up on my feed today! I've had problems with cold hands and feet for years, my mom is the same, and it seems to be an issue with my adult children now as well. I have known we have struggled with high stress and anxiety issues for years as well, and never had any idea that was related to my cold hands and feet. When I heard "fight or flight" and your explanation of how breathing rate is all linked, it made 100% total sense to me. Thank you!

    Sten, this is one of the most useful videos that I have ever seen. Many things came together for me - balance between symp and para, that we need to nurture para all the time but need symp to fight back when necessary, the possibility and hope in neuroplasticity. I will be able to understand not only my body in the present, but also the preferred path to better long term health and wellness. Also, I think that your video lays down the foundation for understanding the many different kinds of breathing techniques that are practiced all over the world - each has their place and merits.     Wonderful info for those WITHOUT scleroderma. A byproduct of scleroderma is Raynaud's Syndrome/Phenomenon. No amount of breathing will help when the Raynaud's kicks in. The only thing that helps is to run your hands under warm water until the circulation comes back into your fingers and toes. Your blood vessels involuntarily constrict and there's no stopping it.

    Your videos are wonderful and have already helped me but this one is awesome. I’ve read a little about breathing but it didn’t seem that important until I heard your explanations and that’s when it clicked. I’ve also lost ten pounds of belly fat fairly quickly using what I’ve learned from you and that’s still with three meals a day. I continue to progress. I only wish I’d known all of this years ago.     That was a very clear explanation. Ties in perfectly with what I am learning through practice of the Wim Hof method. Although his way is more of a fast track approach. I felt better after a few days! I have learned how to be aware of the bloodflow in my body through breathing exercises very similar to that which you describe, and how to consciously direct warming and soothing rushes of blood, as I exhale in a deeply relaxed way, to any part of the body that might be sore or stiff. Am able to enjoy cold showers and swims daily and am generally amazed at the influence over and awareness of my Autonomic nervous system - all in about three weeks. Haven’t even paid for Wim’s rather expensive video course but put time into dedicated RUclips surfing. I’m sure it’s a great way to work on that balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems that you are talking about. Thanks again for your video. I’ll be watching more for sure!

      so do I! Especially excercise during cold weather can be difficult -- my toes and fingers get so white, I fear they might be getting some damage. And the purple color when circulation comes back is weird as well.

    Thanks Sven - this is Really interesting. I am a flute and clarinet teacher. I spend a lot of time teaching my new students to do this as they play. It's surprising how difficult they find it to do! I will ask them to do it whilst away from their instruments so that they get the full benefit.

    Adding muscles should help too, as they create a little bit of heat, even when relaxed. Of course good footwear and a cup of hot tea helps too .. unrelated question: my systolic/diastolic ratio is 4:3 where normally its 3:2 - know why?

    This has been an eye opener. I’ve been able to wait up when something needs to be done then just as easily go back to sleep naturally. This has been by accident. I have noticed that relaxed breathing out was part of the go back to sleep part. I’m going to pay more attention to this in the future and test this out.

    WOW!!! This information is simply remarkable. Both my son & myself have had health issues plus cold hands for decades. Now that my son is applying this breathing technique he is beginning to notice a marked improvement in his digestion. He has suffered from IBS for 18 years … At last we feel the breakthrough has arrived with this valuable information.

      Heather Van Vorous, HelpForIBS. Check it out. Using info from two of her books eventually freed me from the suffering I had for over 10 years. It is not a condition that has to just be accepted and lived with...IBS is what doctors (I had many) call it when they can't figure out what the digestive problems are. Much of my so called 'disease' was due to allergy to wheat. My doctors (5) had no clue, but results of food journaling as Heather suggested eventually forced them to do the tests, which was the beginning of my recovery. Her suggested diet, which is pretty much Paleo with special attention to 'trigger' foods, took me to 90% better. KETO plus intermittent fasting has taken me the rest of the way. Tell your son I wish him well. IBS is *not* a life sentence. For that matter, it is not even a real 'disease'. Recovery is possible, and I am living proof of that.

    Hi Sten, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for your effort, time and information you share! If you don’t mind I have a question that I’ve been wondering for some months, and now as I heard you about ANS, it came up again:
    A friend is suffering for depression, and until now I’ve suggested the she breathe out slower than she inhales, probably in 1:2 ratio. However, as we know that depression is a shut state, (parasympathetic dorsal vagal), probably just the opposite, that is, much slower inhale than exhale would work to activate more the Sympathetic NS, don’t you think?

    When I go walking I do deep breathing circa every 10 seconds. I feel more relax, clear minded and my blood circulation has also improved.

    Thank you so much for this invaluable information. I have many underlying health problems. I'm learning from doctors like you - real doctors. Seems like breathing and the sympathetic and pharasympathetic are the key to most of my lifelong issues and dis - ease. Please could you leave a link to videos on correct breathing techniques and neuro plasticity? Rewiring the brain etc. There is so many half truths and finding a good overall breath work assistance is so confusing.     The answer is so simple when you have the right knowledge and know what to do. Thank you, Dr. Ekberg, for a solution to cold hands and feet! I find it interesting that I can breathe in slowly, but for some reason have great difficulty breathing out slowly. Practice makes perfect I guess.

    I had read about a method called the 4-7-8 method, where you start by exhaling completely, inhale for 4 sec throw your nose, hold for 7 sec, and finally exhale for 8 sec. Jay Shetty also mentioned before on one of his videos that one of the ways to overcome stress is by breathing "Inhale for 4 and exhale for 4."

    I was told many years ago when I had a blood test that I have Raynaud's Syndrome which
    causes cold hands and feet and is considered an auto immune disease. I looked into
    this further and found an explanation that this is a "disorder of the blood vessels" that
    get narrow - especially in cold weather. One Doctor suggested taking Inositol Hexanictinate that helps in vein circulation and also Vit B1 (Thiamine). I never followed
    through with the Inositol, however what Dr. Ekberg is saying makes sense concerning
    proper breathing. Very important to breath in thru the nose while most people breathe
    in through their mouth. Also, doing these exercises helps "lower" high blood pressure.
    Living in a warmer climate is helpful but not possible for everyone. Also, don't know
    how scientific this is however, eating warming foods, especially in the winter is beneficial.
    Soups, stews NOT salads. Warm essential oils are also helpful: cloves, lavender, cypress, geranium, inhaling and used on hands and feet with carrier oil....

      @@adoptada12 Doc Ekberg is really amazing. So patient in his explanation. He did not mention however HBP which I have. Basically we are breathing in more and longer and deeper (many times due to stress) then we are breathing out - that is supposed to slow down our heart rate. This causes Bad circulation. I have High Blood Pressure and believe this is the main reason. Stress effects our breathing. Do breathing exercises as well as relaxation techniques. Breathing in deep, but when you breath out - Breathe out SLOWLY that decreases the heart rate. Try "pranahayana (Sp?) breathing method" from Indian (you'll find on YTube.) Being in warmer climate helps but we all can't go to Florida for the winter. Remember the sun, warming and so healing. One more thing - I have purchased "The Breather" a device you can purchase from YTube that helps by "training and strengthening your lungs .) Very effective.

    Will this work for Raynaud’s? I got Raynaud’s 2 years ago and have been diagnosed with mixed connective tissue disease. I feel hopeless with Raynaud’s it seems there is no cure for it.

    True, I had cold feet and hands for decades. It took couple of years of Tai chi to permanently change it. Now my hands are always warm. Tai chi is all about breathing 🙂
