"You press the button to call the elevator" "You wish you were an elevator so people might call you" "You become depressed" "You load your Beretta" End.
People today will never understand how amazing these graphics were at the time. While people were playing Sega and Nintendo this was so far ahead of those systems. Not to mention the adult content that was all through out this game. My friends played Road Rash and I was like my game is full of talking and swearing. Shortly there after they had their parents buy them this game. I never had a console growing up but always had the latest computer system. Soon after this there was Wolfenstein, then Doom, duke nukem , quake...what a great time.
@@ahsansaeed9103 Yeah man. I miss those days. I'm glad I grew up during this time period. I remember playing the game with my dad and he was just blown away at the graphics. It's cool that they used Parker Center, the LA County Morgue, and other real life locations. Awesome attention to detail. You need to see the film Dark Blue with Kurt Russell. Lots of footage of Parker Center. And the movie itself is really good too.
There is a charm to these types of digitized graphics, in my opinion... I kind of wish we can see a return of them, like how we got the 8bit and 16bit graphics
"Sega" and "Nintendo" are companies, not systems. They have collectively had around 20 different systems, some of which now have specs far superior to anything a PC around the time of this game (1993) could render. Your statement is nonsensical. Also, Wolfenstein 3D predates this game by over a year (May 1992).
2:57:35 Just a fun fact. That's Charles Martinet (voice of Super Mario) voicing the gay guy. 2:58:58 The Super Mario "Woohoo" 3:42:40 Oh and he also voices the car mechanic.
It's pretty cool after watching this it really makes me wish we could see an LA Noir 2 based in the 90s sort of similar to this with the bizarre atmosphere and odd main character
I remember beating this game as a kid... This game is totally appropriate for an 8 year old, right? lol. Probably wouldn't have the patience to beat this game as an adult today, but fun to watch someone else play it and bring back the nostalgia.
Police Quest 4 was very unique adventure game. All the graphics such as backdrop, characters and diverse items are real graphics. Because They used a digital camera in 1993 when many people used a film camera in lieu of a digital camera.
It's strange that they don't make these kind of REAL footage camera games anymore. It could be really interesting now. But the graphic ''matters'' is so big, that maybe people will complain about the camera quality
I remember when this game came out in 1995, alot of the subject in the game was a bit "controversial" as nobody on that time yet had "realistic" close to home subject matter like kid murder, aryan skinheads, black ghetto neighborhood, cannibalism and gore. Even though this came out for the PC which had a bit more mature audience (games like Phantasmagoria and Harvester came out on that time), the general public who doesn't know much about videogame still view videogames as "Child Friendly Mario".
It was actually 1993 when it came out. Yes Hanferd you are right about Police Quest 4 being controversial. It was actually one of the first games to use some strong profanity including the use of the 4 letter "S" and "F" word used by Dennis Walker in his apartment. Another game in that same year Gabriel Knight Sins of the Fathers had a young man named Crash also use profanity with the four letter "F" word and "S" word at the Church. Keep in mind this PC game was released way before profanity and violence became acceptable in Nintendo and Playstation games including "Conkers Bad Fur Day", "Dukem Nukem 3D", "Grand Theft Auto", "Final Fantasy 7" and other T and M rated profanity and violent video games.
I just saw the coolest thing... Watch the film Dark Blue with Kurt Russell. The homicide division in Parker Center looks pretty much identical to what it does here at 16:40. The L.A.P.D. Homicide banner is there, and so is the head of the boar. The boar's head was moved to a pillar, but it is still there. Dark Blue is actually a really cool movie in itself. Kurt Russell is awesome as always.
When you tried to use the gun on the moron with the “jokes” at the coroner’s office was the best part of this video. Constantly having him tell those “jokes” was the worst.
Parker Center remains a vacant eyesore since 2013 after operations began phasing out in 2009. A rat infestation at LA City Hall apparently arose from the rodent migration from Parker as demolishion finally began in early 2019. They left Parker sitting empty far too long and the vermin invaded. Downtown LA is now facing Typhus fears in and around the civic plaza area because of all this incompetence. Total government mismanagement.
This game is now an important piece of history as the building is gone forever now. Even at the time this game was made in 1993, if you click the eye icon on different parts of the station, especially painted walls, the narrator criticizes the "old and decrepit" Parker Center. I think at one point the narrator mentions the 20 layers of white or off white paint that have built up over the years. The L.A.P.D. Homicide banner was actually there at the time. I've seen that banner in a video taken in the 90's inside Parker Center. It's good that they went for realism on this game.
This game was a bit prophetic for me as I played it in ~ 1996 and later owned a 1993 third supercoupe with lx wheels on it. Carry's car is said to be a 1993 tbird. In actuality it's a 1989-1991 thunderbird SC with lx wheels(white car) or a 92-93 thunderbird lx (silver car in shootout scenes). Also that is definitely NOT the trunk of a Thunderbird as they didn't have a cloth spare tire cover like that.
Yeah it's the trunk of a Crown Vic. Also, the way they mounted the gun turned out to be dangerous: Crown Vics would get rear-ended at high speeds and the gun would be driven right into the fuel tank behind the wall, puncture it, and it would go Pinto.
It is one of the known parts of the game that sort of leads the player on a wild goose chase cause it separates you from getting to the ending until you randomly figure out what to do.

I remember playing this game in central Illinois before I lived in LA, I figured the streets were as empty as my town in LA, no traffic when you drive, lol, not at all
I think this game has a really bad identity crisis. It tries to be serious yet it also has really stupid humor moments as well. I honestly think the first three games were a lot better in setting and tonality.
Honestly, if I had the money, I'd love to turn this game into a feature film. With a big budget and the right screenplay and the right actors, I think it would be a sleeper hit. It's just too bad that Parker Center was torn down. That building should've been preserved. Ideally, the movie would have to be set in 1993, the same year the game was produced. AND Carey would have to be driving a white 1993 Ford Thunderbird for authenticity whilst wearing a brown double breasted suit.
actually the stories where great. But the graphic wasn't the point of any game then. Now it matters more than stories and gameplays. People complain about it
A white 1993 Ford Thunderbird. At points in the game, if you click the eye icon on your car, the narrator, in an exasperated tone, says "It's your car, Carey, a 1993 T-bird."
If this were real life the cops would have shot that black guy standing against the fence at the beginning of the game without asking him any questions.
