    Thanks for this wonderful video.
A Vulcan flew right over my head extremely low in 2013/14 or 15.
I was in my friend's garden in Haslemere and heard an incredibly loud deep roar heading towards me from the north. Then a Vulcan appeared, definitely lower than 500ft presumably lining up to land at Dunsfold, it flew directly over my head and was sky blue underneath. I was aware there was only one left flying so felt very privileged.... what an amazing experience. 👍✌️🇬🇧

The Vulcan had a major role in the movie „Thunderball“ in 1965.

Was fortunate to live at NAS Glenview, IL from 1978-1981 when my mom was still in the Navy. Every year we would have a Vulcan visit our base for the Chicago Air and Water show. Being a base-brat, I would quickly rub elbows with the flight crews and they would take me out to see the beast up close. I'll never forget climbing into the cockpit, which is incredibly cramped for a plane of its size. And of course, I will never forget that ungodly howl, one of the most distinctive sounds in all of aviation. I remember thinking the first time I heard it take off "That sounds different"

I remember seeing Vulcans flying over my school in the 1970s. A magnificent aircraft but for a terrible reason. What brave men who flew it. I'm pleased I got a chance to see 558 flying at the Culdrose Air show. Nice one Guy. God bless

Pretty exciting viewing, Guy Martin certainly had information overload with his insanely compressed tuition session, great credit to them both 😁

In the early 70s, the RAF used to do low level training in the Vulcan in Labrador. We used to practice doing intercepts on them at altitude, and it was amazing to see the pilot roll on up to 90 degrees of bank at 39,000 and turn back into us. An amazing, beautiful aircraft The design of the cockpit was amusing. Like all aircraft of that era, there was no master warning panel. The caution and warning lights were situated as if someone had stood back and threw a bunch of light sockets into the cockpit, and they were wired in where they landed.

I was lucky enough to be standing in my front yard in Laverton, Victoria, Australia on 19th Sept 1965 when the Vulcan XH480 did a low level flyover of the Laverton RAAF base. I was 7 yrs old, and from my perspective, it looked like this absolutely huge aircraft was going to fly through my front door. God it was loud!

The Olympus 593 testbed XA903 used to fly over my primary school regularly. Our house was two miles directly off the end of Filton runway so XH557 gave the windows a good rattle when it had its late go around.

When l grew up in the 1950s and 1960s they used to fly into Bigging Hill for the Annual Batlle of Britain day Airshows over my backgarden n Hayes, Kent. From 1962 l went to Farnborough Airshow and when they took off the ground shook beneath ones feet. One year 4 scrambled and disappeared in 4 minutes . Another year one had a Concorde egine strapped beneath it as a testbed. It was a awesome sight and feel whe a diamond flame out the back.

I'm french, but even feel this huuuge emotional moment so well put in light by Guy participating.
I'm sad for every last flight of a legend, this one stay as a big one.
I was thinking France must be same homage for his legend, few Mirage, Caravelle, Fuga Magister and the one post love in country, the Concorde desserve a nation tour for his last flight instead of the regular line.
❤ To all those plane become legend, we never forgot

I think many pilots of the Armee de l'Air must have had similar feelings when the Mirage IV was retired. Also a beautiful airplane. Personally I dread the day when the last Mirage 2000 will retire. The last of a great line and the first jet fighter (Mirage IIIC) I ever knew by name, due to the comics of Tanguy et Laverdure. Certainly, Rafale is every bit as beautiful, but the Mirage is an icon. I do hope the French government will be so wise as to preserve one or two in flying condition to honor Dassault, the father. Avec des sentiments respectueux.

Retired CAF, QRA is one of the most calm but stressful places to be for both air and ground crew. Bells go off, aircrews heart don't slow till the gear is up, ground crews heart don't speed up till the gear is up. After gear is up, aircrews training kicks in, mind too occupied with task at hand, ground crews job is done and start to worry about whats coming at them.

Very interesting video, beautifully shot. Guy Martin is a legend in Britain for his insanely fast Isle of Man TT races on 2 wheels over the most dangerous circuit worldwide (by a wide margin) on an island between Britain & Ireland. He’s a guy you’d definitely enjoy a few beers with…although I’d have to pretend to be ‘a bit deaf’ myself (I’d just say I spent too many hours watching Vulcans).
I’d only properly seen a Vulcan launch once (100 feet away), then perform a full demo with chandelles…bomb bay fast-run, the Vulcan howl etc then land and taxi back in 1985 (or ‘86) when I was in England…Wow NOTHING ON EARTH was more impressive before or since.
The Vulcan was well on the way to the Soviet Union before the 52’s got off…even on MITO drills, the RAF were frankly in a class of their own. They had to be though…given the proximity to Warsaw Pact forces compared to SAC operations from the Great Plain states such as Nebraska.
The first nuke aircraft heading East from Western Europe would have most likely been from quite a number of Cold War airbases in Germany (and depending on advance threat alerts many other locations) from Norway to Turkey operated directly by RAF or USAF tactical fighter-bomber squadrons. It was later that Britain and France put their nukes into submarines, and the Brits most definitely excelled in submarines generally compared to the French with the recent AUKUS pact worth billions.

Well, Omaha is in Nebraska….lol….and there were plenty of B-52’s, b-58’s, f-105’s and etc that were stationed in Europe to assist the Vulcan in its mission…

Thank You for posting my friend. I can never watch enough about the Vulcan and the Blackbird. Guy says it all when he holds that sign up underneath during the engine run and the sound of that howl backs it up. A true legend and lets not forget it smoked uncle sam twice during war games...enough said.

Wing Commander Mike Pollit is a proper Gentleman.
He is very polite and sweet 👌🏾 but look at how his commands, eyes and hands move☝🏽... you can tell his senses are heightened and he’s 10 steps ahead with full situation control!
This vid only shows a 10th of what’s really happening there.
    Take my beer 🍺 Mike.

The Vulcan was not "just" in defence of the Nation.
For some time, the Soviets did not have an operational responce to this stratigic nuclear bomber.
The Vulcan could launch within mere minutes in QRA to evade a nuclear strike on RAF airfields.
Then, in Soviet air space, the Vulcan could out manouver Soviet interceptors jets, making it practicaly invincible.
Stratigicaly, the USSR were left wide open to nuclear attack by the British, thus preserving World Peace.
We all owe a lot to the engineers at A.V.Roe.

When I was a kid around 1965 I saw a Vulcan perform at an RAAF pageant in Melbourne. I wonder why it was in Australia.Maybe it was to test Blue Steel Stand off in the vast desert test range. It might have been to warn off Indonesia which was threatening Australia at that time.Does anyone know the reason?

I see no reason why it couldn't have been maintained. The massive following on it's tour to be retired just proves and shows the love that could've been given to her to help her keep flying.

    • @HandFromCoffin
      @HandFromCoffin 2 года назад

Ya.. Could have.. it's all about $$. it costs mental money to keep them flying. What do you do when the engines need overhauled? The massive following proves nothing.. you have to shit out the actual money. I was an air craft crew chief in the air force on the old C-141. You could see the costs/hour rising as the plane got older. That's just how it works.

    • @thefireisonfire
      @thefireisonfire Год назад

The cost to maintain it would have been insane. There were no spare engines, and the ones on the plane far exceeded their intended service lives so new ones would have to be built. Stocks of other critical parts were also running low with no way to get more short of making more of the parts (which at that point were 40 years out of production)

    • @erikerice9068

VERY poor cockpit visibility... worse even than the Lancaster. God knows how they would have been able to visibly asses exterior accidental or battle damage! 🙄...and let's not overate it. In actual battle it's bombing accuracy in the Falklands conflict was bloody woeful, going by the few miserable pictures provided to the public. It's been reported they dropped unguided bombs from an altitude of 10000 feet. A couple of B52s would have done a better job, in a carpet bombing run!
