Summer 2022 - Flying ITA Airways from Rome to New York JFK in Premium Economy on an Alitalia A330

Recently I flew with ITA Airways from Rome Fiumicino to New York JFK in premium economy. This was my first time flying with ITA Airways on an intercontinental route.
The flight is AZ610 and it was operated with an Alitalia Airbus A330. I have point out that this flight vlog is indicative of ITA Airways' Premium Economy product on the A330. ITA has taken over Alitalia's operations and things are being changed constantly. As a result, the product is in transition and evolving. If we have to be realistic, a whole airline and its product can't be changed overnight.
Nevertheless, this flight was a very good experience despite the one hour delay. However, that wasn't such a big problem as I had more time during my overlay in Rome Airport. There is plenty of space in Premium Economy. Food is really good and supposedly much better than in Economy. The crew was extremely friendly and pleasant. The flight attendants provided excellent service.

Yes, I would have preferred to fly on one of their new A350s but for the moment ITA uses mainly A330s on the route to New York.

Nice Airport in Rome
Hi Dim! Thank you for sharing this video! I’m flying internationally using ITA from MIA to Rome & I’m quite nervous. How long does it usually take to get through customs once landing in FCO? I’m trying to plan transportation to my flag ahead of time but I’m struggling as I’m not sure how long it’ll be from the moment I land, to when I’m out of the airport!
I'd allow for an hour. To be on the safe side.

I didn’t sleep on the flight to the US because it was during the day. But you can have a nap if you wish to do so.

nice report I remember before they were serving drink and snack before main meal and hot towels do they still offer that?
Currently they serve a drink when you board - water, orange juice or sparkling wine. To be honest, I can't remember if there were hot towels. In business, yes.

@@robertgonzales3936 I think so too. I've previously flown with Alitalia to South Korea several years ago. There were hot towels and they served nuts or something like that.
Used them last week for my flight LAX to Rome and wasn’t too bad 👍

We are flying ITA Airways from JFK to Rome in September. What was your experience with carry on luggage. It seems to be hard to find any carry-on that is within there guidelines. Were they very strict when checking the bags or did they let take a bag on as long as it looked about carry on size. Also if you checked luggage did it arrive with your flight.

I can't say anything about that because I had only a small backpack as carry on luggage. What I can say is that you have to be well in advance at JFK so that you don't miss your flight. Going through security took ages!

They are strict. My husband and I flew ITA busines class out of JFK to FCO 2 weeks ago and they required we put our carry-ons in the measuring rack and weighed the luggage. Expect more and more airlines to be doing this with the record amounts of people that are now flying. Easy to find the dimensions required in soft or hard case with plenty of brands.

I am headed to Rome from Miami in April. I am so nervous about flying coach with them. I have flown Alitalia before and loved it. I didn't realize it changed hands. (ugh)
Don’t worry… it’s always the same service…just change the name
I wouldn't worry. Alitalia ceased flying in October 2021. Operations were restarted under a new company - ITA Airways. As things are changing constantly, probably in April 2023 the product will be more ITA and less Alitalia. What will probably not change is that the flights to Miami will be still operated with A330 instead of A350.
Are there plugs to charge your cellphone?
yes, there is a plug
Do they serve alcohol in economy class for free? I know Air France does offer all types of drinks. I need the complementary drinks, it helps with flying anxiety.
In premium economy drinks are free. I think the same applies to long-haul economy class but you can probably choose between beer and red or white wine.

Todd, ITA has rehired part of the Alitalia flight attendants. By the way, I noticed that the ones who have been hired speak very good English.
Sorry can I ask what was your seat number? Just because i need to choose a seat on the same plane and I don't want to end up right behind the restroom 😅
This was on an ex-Alitalia A330 and the seat was 9L. I just checked the electronic ticket.

FYI, lounge access is not offered free to PE flyers, however you can access the lounge if you pay a fee to get in.
I just flew JFK-FCO in PE and was granted access to the AF lounge. I also thought that the lounge access is included only in the business fare. And in other classes against payment.
@@aerotravelerNL If you were granted free access to and AF lounge, then you must be an elite Sky Team customer. I get free access with them and Star Alliance lounges because I have elite Star Alliance status and my husband has elite Sky Team status. While some airlines grant you lounge access for payment if flying PE or Eco, some airlines are now starting to review their policies and going back to elite status or business class passengers only because flying is at an all time high and lounges are becoming crowded. Also some airlines are now allowing paying lounge access passengers in only if there is space and also restricting the time in the lounge to 3 hours. It does make sense. Alitalia died bc it was a totally mess… and born a company called ITA Airways that bought his airplanes and personal
yes, ITA AIRWAYS is good and cheap company, also have a good meal, i ordered for a Muslim meal, it was good, i traveled with them on lest march to NYC, same trip but deffirent flight ITY608.
Just flew business JFK to PMO Great service , Food was good and plenty of drink 🍸 and good wine 🍷 list ... Prices were 20% higher than othe years with other airlines but still worth it ...
I see that you had to show Documents for Covid I'm assuming? I don't see it anywhere on their site that they are requiring it. I'm going in Sept and my parents are leaving in a week.

Al momento di questo volo, il governo americano richiedeva che tutti i viaggiatori internazionali diretti negli Stati Uniti presentassero un test PCR prima dell'imbarco.
Anche gli stranieri dovevano presentare certificati di vaccinazione. Un requisito del governo degli Stati Uniti. Ma questo potrebbe essere cambiato ora. Dovresti controllare se stai volando negli Stati Uniti.

Did you know if i can just do a covid test at the airport instead of the prove of fully vaccination? Im italian i booked a flight for november 21th next monday, today i found out that for non Us resident travelers the fully vaccination is required, im not vaccineted how i can do? You will need proof of vaccination unless you can provide proof that you have medical contradictions to getting a COVID-19 vaccine. This applies not only to Italians but to foreigners in general. I am afraid you will not be allowed to board without proof of vaccination (even if you have had a test). @@cal87249 I don't know if there was someone with medical contradiction on that flight. I think the best is to contact the airline and ask what document is acceptable.

Yes it is! It started flying on October 15th, 2021, replacing Alitalia

Flying ITA was like flying Spirit or Frontier. It was one of the worst airlines I’ve flown internationally. I was in the the Economy class but the screen didnt work, moms who let their toddlers run everywhere including one who would change both her kids diapers on the seat and not use the restroom. I know the flight attendants have a lot of stress on them but none said anything about the aisles filled with kids playing or that this woman can change diapers right on her seat. There is no etiquette when flying any longer.
Sorry to hear that you had such an experience in economy. But you can't blame it on the crew. Parents are also responsible for how their children behave. It's pretty unfortunate that a lot of parents think that everybody else should put up with whims of their kids :-)
Stop putting the onus on cabin personnel for everything that is wrong with people who don't know how to behave in public. And this has nothing to do with the airline you are flying on as it could of happened on any airline and in any class of flying. How about putting the onus on parents who think it's ok for their kids to run around. I have flown on low fairs domestically where children were well behaved and no later than late this winter, my husband and I were flying business class overseas and while everyone was asleep, one father in business class, thought it was ok to let his 9 year old child run all the way down through economy and back into business, physically slapping people out of their sleep and laugh about it. After several polite requests from passengers, the purser finally warned the father that police would be waiting at destination if he let his son bother the passengers. Magically the son stayed in his seat and watched tv for the rest of the flight. Funny how that works....

I just hope they're better than the Alitalia they replaced because they were a horrible airline.
