Since the game is on ESPN, me and my boys who have watched almost every Mavs game together this year, watched none of the pregame, halftime, and post game coverage. My 14 year old son pointed out that even the camera angles of the game are worse on ESPN.
Add the god awful “halftime show” with 5 people each being given their 10 second allotment of allowed time to talk before another commercial break. And then add having to listen to god awful Mike Breen yell bang a million times and Dorris “making history” by being the first female to call the NBA finals…..yeah…ABC / ESPN are just absolute trash…they’re a joke of a network. I’m pissed they’re going to retain the rights to the finals in the new media deal. Literally anyone could do a better job than them.
I don't even bother watching the pregame. There are so many great story lines, and once again ESPN craps the bed. Both teams deserve the spotlight. Not who the Los Angeles Lakers are going to hire as head coach.
Couldn’t agree more, that game was AWFUL. Talk about anti climactic for the NBAs biggest stage. Boston is a good team but they’re boring to watch…especially if they’re blowing someone out. The NBA better hope some of these games are closer or no one is going to watch beyond a few games.
Excuse me? I'm 61 and I miss how great every sport WAS. I get it. However, IF IF, the Celts play their best team ball, then they will beat ANY NBA TEAM IN A SERIES. Period! If that's boring then perhaps more teams should play unselfish, fundamental, team effort. IN EVERY SPORT! 🤨 ?
@@30xron I don’t have “a team”…I just like the sport. And I won’t be the only the one not watching if this continues. Game 1 ratings were down 5% from last year and the 6th lowest rated game 1 of the finals in the modern Nielsen ratings era. People don’t want to watch what we watched in that game. These are supposed to be the two best teams in the league.
The NBA thinks they need to focus on LeBron but they're not realizing that a good portion of NBA fans don't like him. And are tired of the constant coverage of them when they can barely make the playoffs
I'm glad that everyone's catching up to how terrible ESPN/ABC is with basketball every year. I've been wanting the TNT crew to cover the Finals for over a decade now because it's so bad. At least there's NBATV, every year whenever the Finals ends I do straight over there. I know the ABC broadcast will be completely skippable
I have to admit, I wasn’t impressed with their coverage either, and to be honest I never even really notice any of the coverage…probably because it’s usually pretty good. I mean, when they cut to the panel at halftime they were all looking at their phones like a bunch of kids in study hall. It was weird. No excitement or vibe. I turned it off. I think it may have foreshadowed my worst fear, and that’s that NBC/ESPN etc bought the rights more for spinning narratives and promoting players more so than ACTUALLY covering and talking about the games the way TNT does/did. In fact, their real talk probably doesn’t sit well at times with the league.
NBA Finals Schedule been that way for 30 years. Wasted 5 minutes talking about that. What do you want to see instead of NBA finals on these nights? NFL is done until September.
Lousy programming everywhere. Sunday final morning of the PGA Championship last month I turn on Golf Channel to catch some "live from the PGA Championship" usually with Rich Lerner and crew but no, instead Golf Channel is broadcasting a European Soccer match. This soccer match lasted until 2 pm. I emailed NBC and told them they were losing the plot of why golf channel was created by Arnold Palmer in the first place. Stupid!!
Complaining about the game itself is a dumb point I hear a lot in this conversation about the lead up and promotion of the game. This isn't WWE, not predetermined guys.
The NBA needs to be totally revamped, to include how the sport is marketed.
Chuck needs to get a contract Amazon and have Thursday Night Basketball with shaq chuck Kenny and Ernie !
