I've been looking for something like this for my Infiniti Q50RS 400 since it has no boost gauge and this can display A/F and boost simultaneously.
Excellent presentation. Thank you! This may solve my wish to install a remote display ammeter and voltmeter in my vehicles. Both my 2002 Highlander and my 2006 CR-V are at that age I want to monitor the electrical systems better than the "idiot lights" that come on too late or never at all. Thank you for the link.
You're welcome Donald and thank you!
What is the best ACC setting if you want to have it not draw power when the car is off? Would it be best to set it to a little under the running average voltage? How do you shut it off with the manual setting?
Hi Papaprime! Correct, the voltage setting will vary from car to car as each one will have small voltage variations. In addition, the voltage setting will also vary depending on how "sensitive" the owners want the gage to be to detecting the voltage change (for the gage to understand if the car is ON or OFF). Cheers!
I’m using it for almost a year on Infiniti Q50. It shows an extremely high values for EXT parameter, which I thought was supposed to show outdoor temperature. It shows 900F in this video so it’s not only my case. They specified the 900-2400F range on their official website, so it could be only exhaust temperature then. I googled and found out- it is an exhaust temperature.
This maybe useful for some people
Hi I! Correct, EXT is normally the exhaust temp (usually at the catalytic converter but I also seen it Pre-Cat). Ambient Air Temperature is usually AIT, ATT, in some cases this info comes from the Battery Temp Sensor and sometimes it comes from a dedicated outside air temperature (normally on vehicles that display this parament on the inside of the car) Cheers!
Does it work with hybrids? I need coolant temp gauge for Toyota Prius 2016. Thanks
Hi Mr! It works for vehicles equipped with an OBD2 port (and Canbus). Cheers!
how would you compare this to scan gauge 2? Can it record and playback data like the scan gauge can?
Hi Ontogeny! Unfortunately I have not tested the ScanGauge 2 so I can't comment on how it's performance or how it compares to the D-Meter. I will see if we can add it to the list of scanners to review (list is getting longer by the day! LOL) Cheers!
I can't see the oil function on my obd shadow d meter, some functions don't work
Hi Victor! Remember not all cars support all functions (this is determined by the PID that they support). Cheers!
do you need special option to see your turbo boost ?
Hi Call Me Rush! You're vehicle must support this PID to be able to display it. if you are not sure if your car supports this PID you can also contact Shadow with your car's information and they can confirm if this gauge will display the information your are looking for. Hope this helps, Cheers!
would this work on ford taurus police interceptor?
Hi Dope_Gumbo! The gauge is compatible with cars with an OBD2 port that supports the Canbus protocol (most cars after 2007 have canbus). Hope this helps, Cheers!
Hello sir, i installed it on honda fit/jazz Gk5 2018, and it keeps restarting, doesn’t it support my car?
Hi! Correct, most OBD2 ports restart (power off and powers on with the car) with the vehicle, which is why you are seeing the gauge restart. Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun it only turns on for a few seconds then the screen turns off, when I press the button it restarts again(repeat) i try on honda hrv also same problem
Oh wow that doesn't sound normal, I would recommend contacting Shadow, they may be able to walk your thru some troubleshooting steps. Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun ok sir! Thanks🫡
@@cryshincan1420 You're welcome Bud!
Do you know if you can calibrate the speed to match what is displayed on the vehicle's speedometer?
Hi Twin! Ah remember speed calibration offset is typically only found on devices that pull speed from GPS. That adjustment allows it to match the car's speedometer to the GPS speed if different. The Shadow meter does not pull the speed from GPS, it pulls the speed from the actual vehicle (same source as the speedometer of your car) so it should match. Just keep in mind that OBD2 data is based on frames, which limits how much information can be pulled and how fast it can be sampled from the vehicle, which is why typically we see gauges requiring the lowest lag (typically for racing purposes, like speed or RPM) tap directly to the car electrical system's wiring (usually physically connected to ignition and other sensors) Which helps for cases where a faster response is required. Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFunThank you for your explanation!
You're welcome twin!@@twinring3846
@@AlexAutoFun When you mentioned lag on the OBD2, will there be much delay in displaying the speed? Are we talking milliseconds or a second? The reason being is I plan on importing a car from Japan to the UK, and JDM cars only display the digital speedometer in Kph. Obviously in the UK we use Mph, so I need something fairly accurate. Thanks
@@twinring3846 Hi Twin, accuracy won't be an issue in my opinion (unless the car speedo signal is off), but latency will be present. If you want to get an idea of the speed of OBD2 you can connect a basic car scanner like this one ruclips.net/video/h8hh5ZUffz8/видео.html to see the response time or you can also see it on my HUD review here ruclips.net/video/K7FbhZTxxaA/видео.html Cheers!
Have you try the lufi xs?
Hi Jay! Nope unfortunately I have not, but it reminds me a little of the C1 HUD which I reviewed here ruclips.net/video/K7FbhZTxxaA/видео.html Cheers!
I have an older model I love it however the rear camera it pretty useless at night. Cars headlights over saturate.
Hi CodedWarrior! This is an OBD2 gauge, it does not support a rear camera. Hope this helps, Cheers!
would I be able to use this on my srt4?
Hi spartanwolf 3! The gauge is compatible with cars with an OBD2 port that supports the Canbus protocol. Hope this helps, Cheers!
@AutoFun shoot! nice.. thanks man.
@@spartanwolf3274 You're welcome Bud!
@spartanwolf 3 Hi spartanwolf 3! Quick update, more or a correction, the SRT doesn't support the canbus protocol so unfortunately the gauge won't work with it 😔
@AutoFun bummer, but thanks for the update sir.
That obd port connection looks dodgy man
Hi Rocoo! LOL yeah what your are seeing is potting (the material behind the contacts inside the OBD connector) is a standard process in the industry to provide additional contact retention in addition to the physical tabs that some contacts have that lock them to the connector body. That being said, I know where you are coming from, I hope they eventually add an overmold to the OBD connector to fully encapsulate the wires providing both a nice cosmetic appearance (even thought the connector won't be seen by people when plugged in the car, I think cosmetics are important) and also a functional strain relief to the cable to ensure a longer life span. I imagine it was a cost cutting decision to keep the price as low as possible, but maybe they will add in the future, I guess we'll see LOL Cheers!
