We have been a community sponsor for Amy for many years. Her program energizes students to do more. Each concert I have seen you can tell how excited the kids are about playing. It is so easy to help teachers that really care about the students... Amy you rock!!!!
Johnny Harrison Johnny! Thank you! It was great having you at our last concert. I was really glad that you got to see my kids in action. Your support is what makes this program work!
Amazing, talented, kind-hearted, and extremely passionate teacher! She really connects with her students by spending lunches in the music room reviewing a piece of music or giving advice on our original works. Seriously, people take AP Music Theory simply because she's the teacher. It's easy to see why our school loves her. When students see a teacher outside of school, we usually think, "WHOA. That teacher is a real person, too? They do things outside of school?" But Ms. Rangel is the kind of teacher that you also see as an adviser, a friend, a concerned parental figure, and a helper. We love being around her!!! I'm so thankful to have gotten to know her and have had her in my life! She's inspired me to be confident in myself through music and theater! GHS LOVES RANGEL!
happpycamper Awe! Thank you so much! I will have to read your comments over when I am feeling down or having a bad day. I really do love and care about my kid :). It is really an amazing job!
Amy Rangel was easily one of the most influential teachers I ever had the pleasure of knowing in school. She completely transformed the GHS instrumental music program while I was a student, and it seems they have continued to reach more phenomenal heights year after year. I am a better musician (and likely a better person!) for the years I spent in her classes, which provided some of the most formative moments in my high school experience. Truly, I can think of few teachers as deserving of this sort of recognition! (GHS '04)
awry_diamond 'O4!!!! That means that we are both getting much older :). Thank you for your kind words. I am trying to figure out who you are. I have a few guesses.... I really love my kids, you included too of course. Can't imagine a better job!
Amy Rangel has always been in my top 3 biggest musical influences. I was lucky to have her for one year in middle school, so I'm part of the lucky few that had her for 5 years! She's helped me gain confidence in my skills from violin to bass to drums. She's encouraged me to try different things, and laid a path for me to explore! The way she runs the jazz program, especially, has helped me see the bigger picture in life, instead of being stuck in a high school bubble. There was always a sense of freedom in the classroom that seemed to represent what happens in a professional rehearsal. She's always kept the room open during snack and lunch to allow students to hang and jam. I graduated in 2005, and continued onto the collegiate level. I've joined many bands since, have gone on many tours, and can proudly say I'm a full time musician. I'm in the middle of recording my 2nd album with my current band, Run River North, and I still push myself because of the foundations she has laid out for me.
Awesome video Amy!! Really showcases your program! Mrs. Rangel has been a coworker of mine for almost 10 years now and she has always been a doll and super easy to work with! I love the music they play and all the kids are really invested in their talents! Congrats and Good luck!!! I vote for you! Haha Go Glendale!!!!
GhouseVideos Thanks! It was so weird making those videos! I love showcasing the kids, but felt a bit weird being front and center. Thanks for your support!
I graduated from GHS in 1972 and I just can't believe the orchestra room looks exactly the same! It hasn't changed in over 50 years! This school was rebuilt in 1969 when I was a sophomore. The same drab yellow cupboards, the same "faux-wood" formica closet doors, the same orange, brown, black plastic chairs (1970's Harvest colors--remember?) That VERY SAME worn out piano probably was part of the old school and it still has the same damage! If you don't believe me, go to the GHS library (if it still exists) and look at the old yearbooks. Aren't our music students deserving of a music room and instruments they can enjoy and be proud of?

Janet Sanders
Thanks Aunt Janet! I am pretty sure everyone knew that I was going to be a music teacher before I did.
I am so impressed with the way my nephew has grown in this program. Keep up the good work!

He is such a great kid! I can't wait to torture, I mean teach, him these next few years.
Rangel is an inspiration!
