@EMM Vlogs Sir, during the installation of my AC, technician stood on the outdoor unit to fix the the indoor unit, due to unavailability of a ladder at that moment unfortunately, which caused the top part to get dented. Later on he did remove the top cover and tried to fix the dent, which got fixed to some extent, but not completely, as some dent is still visible! The technician told me, that it would not interfere with the working of the AC, but after coming to know about these recent incidents related to AC blasts, I'm bit scared now, whether my AC can also blast, due to him standing on the outdoor unit during the installation. Sir, requesting you to kindly advice in this regard, if this had damaged my outdoor unit and could lead to any problem in the long run, whether my AC can also blast in the future because of this reason. If so, kindly let me know Sir, if there is anything to be done from my end, to rectify this problem, before it's too late! Thank you in advance Sir 🙏🏼

Technician को बुलाकर सबसे पहले गैस का pressure check कराना होगा। अगर pressure कम हो तो सारी gas निकलवा के उसके nitrogen gas technician भर कर रखेगा। Pressure drop होने पर leakage check करवाना पड़ेगा।

मेरा AC का indoor unit पिछले साल खराब हो गया था क्योंकि उसमे से गैस लीक हो रही थी और मैंने टेक्नीशियन के कहने पर carrier का camipro unit लगवाया। उसकी कंपनी की तरफ से PCB की 12 महीनों की warranty थी। Warranty period में ही उसमे दिक्कत आई और कंपनी ने उसे replace भी कर दिया। मुझे डर है की मैने कोई गलत कदम तो नही उठाया। क्या मेरा indoor unit की coil ठीक होंगी। PCB तो खराब निकला था, लेकिन coil अगर फट गई तो हमारी जान भी जा सकती है। प्लीज बताइए की हमे इसे निकाल तो नही देना चाहिए?

@@howtoconfigure YES ! It is absolutely mandatory to evacuate split system AC piping prior to releasing the refrigerant from the condensing unit. There are several important reasons that make proper evacuation necessary these days, but it hasn’t always been mandatory or practiced… Lets explain the current reasons why it is mandatory, then I’ll explain why this was not always the case. 1 - Air contains moisture. Ok. So What? In refrigeration systems, we deal with temperatures that can drop below the freezing point of water. The expansion device regardless of type (capilliary, thermostatic expansion valve, electronic expansion valve, piston etc) all have tiny openings. It is at the expansion device that we suddenly drop the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant. What do you think is going to happen when moisture turns to ice at these tiny openings? Its going to cause a blockage in the refrigeration circuit. Refrigerant pressure will build up behind the blockage, and refrigerant pressure will drop in front of the blockage. Usually, the system safety features will detect these abnormal pressures and stop the system. As the temperature rises, the ice melts. Your system starts working again, until the moisture blockage reoccurs. 2 - There is another problem that happens when moisture gets into your AC system. Modern AC systems use a type of compressor oil called Polyolester oil (POE for short). POE is hygroscopic. That is, it will absorb moisture. You might think that is a good thing, as if the moisture is absorbed into the oil, it won’t cause a moisture blockage. Perhaps…. BUT…. moisture causes a chemical reaction in POE oil that turns the oil acidic. The compressor is an electric motor inside a pressure vessel. The now acidic oil starts to eat away at the varnish that insulates the motor windings. Eventually, the insulation on the motor windings will be compromised and the motor will burn out. Its a slow process, first creating acidic oil, then having that acidic oil degrade the varnish insulation on the motor windings. It can take years. The eventual demise of your compressor will occur 1-2 years after your warranty has expired. Congratulations… you thought you would save some money and install the system yourself without an evacuation, because you are not an airconditioning installer and dont have access to a vacuum pump…. instead you now will need to buy a new AC shortly after your warranty expires. 3 - The most common AC refrigerant many years ago was R22. Unfortunately it is ozone depleting, so has been phased out. Airconditioning companies and refrigerant manufacturers came up with a new refrigerant called R32. Great refrigerant BUT… it is slightly flammable and also in a very special set of circumstances can also be explosive. When you need impose a major technological change on consumers, the last thing you need is a marketing nightmare. “Dear airconditioning consumer, in light of R22 being ozone depleting, we are replacing it with R32. It is very slightly flammable and there is a small risk of it exploding, but we know you are very understanding of the greater good to protect the ozone layer… so please buy our new technology air conditioners and just accept these risks”. No airconditioning manufacturer wanted to have to deal with this marketing nightmare, so the industry solution was to denature R32 with another refrigerant to the point that it was no longer flammable. That refrigerant was R125. 50% R125 + 50% R32 … and R410A was born as the replacement for ozone depleting R22. Not flammable, not explosive… so no marketing nightmare to hamper the transition away from ozone depleting R22. All was well for a while until the science of global warming pointed the finger at R410A as being a potent greenhouse gas. The component of R410A that was the most potent greenhouse gas was… you guessed it, the R125 used to denature the R32 to remove it’s flammability. With the threat of climate change now well accepted, it is now a far easier sell for AC manufacturers to market air conditioners that use R32 as compared to R410A, it is an environmentally conscious response to reduce the AC industry contribution to global warming. HOW DOES A DIESEL ENGINE WORK? What? How is that relevant to this answer? Stay with me… Take a combustible fuel, mix it with oxygen and compress it until it self ignites causing a controlled explosion that can push a piston that can rotate a crankshaft. What is in those air conditioning pipes that you don’t want to evacuate? Air… which is ~21% oxygen. So, lets take the slightly flammable R32, mix it with oxygen and when you start your airconditioner it VIOLENTLY EXPLODES AS THE COMPRESSOR COMPRESSES THE FUEL AND OXYGEN MIXTURE JUST LIKE IN A DIESEL ENGINE!!! People have died from this foolishness! Back in the old days of R22, life was simpler. Compressors used non hygroscopic mineral oil (MO). R22 was not flammable and no one either knew or cared about the ozone layer. Global warming due to the release of refrigerants into our atmosphere was not a consideration, so instead of evacuating, it was common practice to purge any moisture out of the pipework by releasing the refrigerant to push the air and any moisture it contained out of the pipework. There is another reason. Air present in the refrigerant pipework will reduce the refrigeration capacity of the air conditioner as well as increase its power consumption. As air travels through the evaporator, it displaces the refrigerant. Less refrigerant flowing through the evaporator reduces the evaporator’s capacity to absorb heat. As air travels through the condenser, it also displaces refrigerant, so less condensing of refrigerant occurs. Additionally, it increases the high side pressure, so the compressor has to work harder, consuming more electricity on top of the reduction in cooling capacity. Do you still think you might want to see if you can get away without having to evacuate your split system AC pipework?

मेरा AC का indoor unit पिछले साल खराब हो गया था क्योंकि उसमे से गैस लीक हो रही थी और मैंने टेक्नीशियन के कहने पर carrier का camipro unit लगवाया। उसकी कंपनी की तरफ से PCB की 12 महीनों की warranty थी। Warranty period में ही उसमे दिक्कत आई और कंपनी ने उसे replace भी कर दिया। मुझे डर है की मैने कोई गलत कदम तो नही उठाया। क्या मेरा indoor unit की coil ठीक होंगी। PCB तो खराब निकला था, लेकिन coil अगर फट गई तो हमारी जान भी जा सकती है। प्लीज बताइए की हमे इसे निकाल तो नही देना चाहिए?

If the AC is taken to the repair shop then how could we be present at the shop when the gas is being filled. It is not practical

@@howtoconfigure YES ! It is absolutely mandatory to evacuate split system AC piping prior to releasing the refrigerant from the condensing unit.
There are several important reasons that make proper evacuation necessary these days, but it hasn’t always been mandatory or practiced…
Lets explain the current reasons why it is mandatory, then I’ll explain why this was not always the case.
1 - Air contains moisture. Ok. So What?
In refrigeration systems, we deal with temperatures that can drop below the freezing point of water. The expansion device regardless of type (capilliary, thermostatic expansion valve, electronic expansion valve, piston etc) all have tiny openings. It is at the expansion device that we suddenly drop the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant. What do you think is going to happen when moisture turns to ice at these tiny openings? Its going to cause a blockage in the refrigeration circuit. Refrigerant pressure will build up behind the blockage, and refrigerant pressure will drop in front of the blockage. Usually, the system safety features will detect these abnormal pressures and stop the system. As the temperature rises, the ice melts. Your system starts working again, until the moisture blockage reoccurs.
2 - There is another problem that happens when moisture gets into your AC system. Modern AC systems use a type of compressor oil called Polyolester oil (POE for short). POE is hygroscopic. That is, it will absorb moisture. You might think that is a good thing, as if the moisture is absorbed into the oil, it won’t cause a moisture blockage. Perhaps…. BUT…. moisture causes a chemical reaction in POE oil that turns the oil acidic. The compressor is an electric motor inside a pressure vessel. The now acidic oil starts to eat away at the varnish that insulates the motor windings. Eventually, the insulation on the motor windings will be compromised and the motor will burn out. Its a slow process, first creating acidic oil, then having that acidic oil degrade the varnish insulation on the motor windings. It can take years. The eventual demise of your compressor will occur 1-2 years after your warranty has expired. Congratulations… you thought you would save some money and install the system yourself without an evacuation, because you are not an airconditioning installer and dont have access to a vacuum pump…. instead you now will need to buy a new AC shortly after your warranty expires.
3 - The most common AC refrigerant many years ago was R22. Unfortunately it is ozone depleting, so has been phased out. Airconditioning companies and refrigerant manufacturers came up with a new refrigerant called R32. Great refrigerant BUT… it is slightly flammable and also in a very special set of circumstances can also be explosive. When you need impose a major technological change on consumers, the last thing you need is a marketing nightmare.
“Dear airconditioning consumer, in light of R22 being ozone depleting, we are replacing it with R32. It is very slightly flammable and there is a small risk of it exploding, but we know you are very understanding of the greater good to protect the ozone layer… so please buy our new technology air conditioners and just accept these risks”.
No airconditioning manufacturer wanted to have to deal with this marketing nightmare, so the industry solution was to denature R32 with another refrigerant to the point that it was no longer flammable. That refrigerant was R125.
50% R125 + 50% R32 … and R410A was born as the replacement for ozone depleting R22. Not flammable, not explosive… so no marketing nightmare to hamper the transition away from ozone depleting R22.
All was well for a while until the science of global warming pointed the finger at R410A as being a potent greenhouse gas. The component of R410A that was the most potent greenhouse gas was… you guessed it, the R125 used to denature the R32 to remove it’s flammability.
With the threat of climate change now well accepted, it is now a far easier sell for AC manufacturers to market air conditioners that use R32 as compared to R410A, it is an environmentally conscious response to reduce the AC industry contribution to global warming.
HOW DOES A DIESEL ENGINE WORK? What? How is that relevant to this answer? Stay with me…
Take a combustible fuel, mix it with oxygen and compress it until it self ignites causing a controlled explosion that can push a piston that can rotate a crankshaft.
What is in those air conditioning pipes that you don’t want to evacuate? Air… which is ~21% oxygen. So, lets take the slightly flammable R32, mix it with oxygen and when you start your airconditioner it VIOLENTLY EXPLODES AS THE COMPRESSOR COMPRESSES THE FUEL AND OXYGEN MIXTURE JUST LIKE IN A DIESEL ENGINE!!!
People have died from this foolishness!
Back in the old days of R22, life was simpler. Compressors used non hygroscopic mineral oil (MO). R22 was not flammable and no one either knew or cared about the ozone layer. Global warming due to the release of refrigerants into our atmosphere was not a consideration, so instead of evacuating, it was common practice to purge any moisture out of the pipework by releasing the refrigerant to push the air and any moisture it contained out of the pipework.
There is another reason. Air present in the refrigerant pipework will reduce the refrigeration capacity of the air conditioner as well as increase its power consumption.
As air travels through the evaporator, it displaces the refrigerant. Less refrigerant flowing through the evaporator reduces the evaporator’s capacity to absorb heat.
As air travels through the condenser, it also displaces refrigerant, so less condensing of refrigerant occurs. Additionally, it increases the high side pressure, so the compressor has to work harder, consuming more electricity on top of the reduction in cooling capacity.
