Addressing the question in the end of the video, they've added much more variety to map generation, the vanilla version was 95% generated corridors when the eldrich edition has much more variety to it. Installed the vanilla game at first and it was night and day compared to eldritch
UPDATE (April 2023): I decided I will make the spiritfarer video after all. It ended up being quite different from the first two videos in this series. Much more personal, and mostly about the things I wrestled with while trying to write the original review, which I think itself is worthwhile discussing. And at least it won't leave this series in limbo anymore. That video will come out on Monday. ORIGNAL COMMENT: I've decided not to make the spiritfarer video anymore. I've been procrastinating it for a couple of months now, and it's just really hard to write about. I don't think it's immune to criticism, as a game, but I think it's very hard to give it a longform critique. It's story is too personal, and I'd basically just be reciting the story of each character without commentary, which I don't want to do. But the core gameplay loop of collecting stuff, feeding and talking to your passengers, doing minigames, and travelling around starts to strain and becomes boring long before the story of the game ever comes close to resolving. It's a shame -- but as a game it's just not as engaging as something like stardew valley, say
@@seraaron Oh really? Then I might check it out thanks for letting me know. Once I saw rogue lite I lost interest and left. But thanks for reaching out to change my mind I appreciate it.
@@The-Blue-Knight You can watch the video up to about 12:30 without any spoilers, as I just explain how the core mechanics work without much mention of the story. And if you want to hear why it's not really a roguelite then skip to 47:18 (but don't watch because some of the visuals may be spoilery, as i show trailer footage during that section).
Great analysis. Hope it will get more views in the future

Don't take them down, they're great.
Thanks for this long review and explanation it was great
As of today (11-9-2023) Steam says the percentage of people who defeated Dominion has gone DOWN, it is at 29.2%.
Probably because the game is frequently on sale
Looks cool but I'm not big on rogue lite.
Fair enough, though its not really a roguelite... I try to make that point later in the video. No progress is ever really lost when you die.

I love this game. Curious why the west though of this as a Metroidvania? Another case of poor marketing.
