Agree i have both their SE models and they are the best 2 guitars i own. The streaked ebony and maple necks are so damn amazing. oh and the thicker fredrik model with the tonepros has the most sustain of all the guitars i own by a mile. AND they are the only 2 guitars ive ever got that didn't need a level, crown, and nut file. (granted i got them used so they may have been setup)

Opeth are the reason I started playing PRS guitars. Now I have four core models. They quickly became my favourite band of all time (excluding The Beatles of course). When I met Opeth I tried to get them to sign my Custom 22 but they said it was too beautiful to deface so they signed the control cavity cover. I have 20 guitars (including vintage Gibson & Fender, custom shop etc) but my PRSi are, hands down, the best made guitars I own.

Same.. When I started to play the guitar, my mom surprised me with a PRS. I remember that day like yesterday. ' I am at the guitar shop, there's that guitar you like so much '. And I was like ' What? The strat? ' ( I was saving for a mexican strat ) and she said ' no, the one with the little birds '. I almost had an heart attack. Now I own three PRS, the one that my mom bought me. A red swamp ash special, a PRS SE Akerfeldt and a SE Angelus and two PRS insipred tatoos!

@4:41 This is what is really, really important. Opeth is one of the few bands I've seen that *didn't* blow my ears out but still sounded big. It was so crisp and clear, it actually sounded like an album live. I swear I saw my buddy shedding a tear at one point, it was a superb show.

Every gig with Opeth is awesome. They were in my town and middle of the song everything went quiet. Then they got some sound and Mikael said he thought he had lost his hearing. That's how it really felt, you saw how the players didn't stop playing but suddenly nobody heard any music. Someone in the backline had tripped on a power cord and took the whole stage out. So what did they do when they have like 14 minute songs and they got cut right in the middle? They started from the very beginning.
Then there was someone heckling some time and Mikael very calmly put him in his place. And once there was my female friend screaming "marry me Mikael!" and Mikael responded to her. I had no idea the guys on the stage hear things word to word from that far away, it was like 15-20 meters possibly in the crowd that was not quiet. Mikael just has good wits with him at all times, so enjoyable to listen to him speak and react on stage. Sort of stand-up comedian under the hood.
Oh and one gig that wasn't Opeth gig, but Mikael anyway. I was in Tuska festival, Helsinki, Finland. It was middle of the summer, +30°C (thankfully at that time it hadn't moved to asphalt parking lot). Bloodbath was doing a gig in a black tent. It was really hot and inside the tent it was very dark. So what did Mikael? He walked on stage wearing sunglasses and a leather jacket. I have no idea how he saw anything and didn't collapse from the heat in that attire, but he pulled off a great gig as usual.
I remember as a teenager how awesome it was just to get to play with your friends, your band, out there even if nobody came. Once we played in a school gym hall with poor electric work and the singer would get zapped on the lips whenever he got too close to the mic, there were a group of middle-aged people, I don't know if we were their entertainment number for some gathering or what, but I swear none of them cared about the music we played. They were nice people though. Basically it was one of the worst environments and small crowd with no interest, but it was still a fun experience. Another time it was in an almost empty pub and just one drunk guy with a full pint of beer jamming right in front of the "stage" or more like the single small step dividing the stage from the rest of the room, and we were lucky that he didn't pour the beer on our gear. Furthermore carrying the gear up there in a narrow and steep staircase was also quite a task. And we were minors so we didn't even get to enjoy free beer. It was still awesome. I guess you get less excited once you've toured years without breaks in every hole on earth and you just wish you could drop in your own bed instead of playing in an empty room.
And I gotta give it to both you, Paul and Mike. I've had many guitars from all price ranges, ranging from 200e to 3000e, and I ordered Mike's signature PRS SE for 800e blindly. I had never played one, I can't remember if I had even had a chance to play a PRS guitar before even though I had heard they were good guitars. I had never liked chunky necks, or so I thought. Mike's signature arrived and it was so gorgeous. It felt good on lap, good in hands, it sounded massive when you strummed it unplugged. The only reason I could believe it was only 800e was the end of the fretboard's sides, the binding was flaking. But it's been many years now and I think I still play it the most and it gets picked up the most often when I'm learning something new or recording, if I don't have anything specific and unique in mind. If I could change just a single thing to make it perfect, I'd replace the bridge pickup to a weaker one, it was so aggressive that even screwing it down as much as I could, it was still very eager to push the amps to distortion. But it's a good sounding pickup so I never replaced it. And the coil-tap (I think it's tap but I can't remember any info about if it's tap or split) in PRS is also so lovely, actually so useful in chasing the lighter break up and single coil sound. And I learned that I actually love chunky necks for my hands instead of thin necks. Would've loved to touch Mikael's own guitar on a gig.

Paul is such a great and genuine guy. Opeth and Steven are the reason I switched to PRS guitars. PRS doesn't make bad guitars, I'm currently using a SE and it's a dream to play. Butter smooth.

@3:30 I was at the concert they're talking about, at the PRS Experience event (2012 I think) in the PRS factory parking lot. Opeth was the last band of the day, The Heritage album had been released like a night or two before, and I'd been ecstatic all weekend that Opeth were appearing at a PRS Experience. I was also wondering if they'd be too heavy for the crowd, but that fear was for naught! A lot of people commented afterwards that "they're like a heavy Pink Floyd!" That night was one of the best of many rock performances I've ever seen going back to the mid-80s. They finished with "A Fair Judgement," and I don't think a live concert could have ended any better. They brought it in super slow and heavy and dramatic at the end, and people were just losing their minds! What a night! I had no idea about the Pink Floyd PA connection, but I remember Paul saying that weekend that the PA had never sounded better than that Opeth set. Come to think of it, I probably heard that very PA system when I saw Pink Floyd on the Momentary Lapse tour in the long gone Seattle Kingdome.

    PRS Custom 24.

How did this long distance call fly by me? Gosh! I'm happy I just saw this. It's so heartwarming to see the relationship Paul has with Mikael and Fredrik.
In 1998 I saw an ad for a PRS Modern Eagle in faded blue jean in a Guitar World Magazine and I said I'd have a PRS one day. Some time after I came to find out Opted and Porcupine Tree were using PRS guitars and I couldn't believe it was just coincidence. Fast forward almost 30 years and I've had many PRS guitars. My favorite happens to be a P24 that was manufactured exactly 3 years before my daughter was born. I also A/Bd that guitar against a Mayones Regius Elements Prototype owned and toured by Daniel Gildenlöw from Pain of Salvation and I couldn't justify keeping it so I sold the Mayones because my P24 just blew it out of the water.
Recently I've been wanting to have another guitar for drop D tuning and no other guitar I have sounds or feels like my P24. It is magic. It's hard to tell. So, I'm guessing I'll end up buying a Custom 24 piezo at some point to keep as my standard tuning guitar and have my beloved P24 as my drop d guitar.
Anyway. Thank you Paul for everything you do. You've made me realize over the years that I'm a PRS guy through and through.

Opeth and Paul, I want to go to that wine fueled dinner sooo freaking bad! I would have more fun with them, than I could even imagine. I wish Opeth and I could get Paul stoned and see where the universe takes us all! Let’s not forgot about Beth bc she is Paul’s secret weapon in everything he does in life. Both Paul and Beth will agree with the secret weapon comment. Messing around in Paul’s Studio to me, would be the same as a kid going to Disney World. With all that, I want to thank PRS Guitars for being so damn kool throughout the years. Paul’s passion always throws some really pure fuel on my fire and passion for my life. Paul is an X-Model like my father was. As soon as X-models are born they immediately break that mold so it can never be made that way, EVER AGAIN!There will always be people who have some of their traits but never the 100% one of a kind. PRS Guitars put love into your work and it will always come out the way it’s supposed to.

I asked the ptc at prs if I could put the piezo system in my custom 22, and they said they can't do that....I think it's because it's built into the guitar before the sandwich the top and the back together...makes sense...I'd be interested to see if Paul could actually do that do michael's modern eagle...anyway...my p22 is just amazing...it sucks because I forget to unplug it and it wears out the battery, but it's just the most verstatile guitar out there...I guess the parker fly can do it,...but the p22/p24 is better...if I was a touring guy in a perfect world I'd have a tremonti with the trem...like 4 or 5 of them...with the piezo system,...and a bunch of p22s...and some modern eagles with the piezo...I'd be good to go...
