Oh god, I love this. The ppl were way nicer and understanding about his hearing aid then they were to me over mine, but beeing deaf and my birthday literally beeing halloween, this has to be one of my favourite storys.
One of your best so far. Why? I haven’t literally laughed out loud at a story in a long time. One old deaf guy and a short alien going “Huh?” “What?” At each other was priceless.
@@clonechoopa31 The book series is actually that good, I would have put The Expanse waaay above Mass Effect before the show was a thing. And the show is so good, that I don't care that I have the characters from the show in mind when I read the books now, because although I've actually had depicted them differently, the characters from the show were such an amazing choice and match. Wes Chatham as Amos was amazing for instance. FFS, that 'I am that guy...' moment alone was insane.
I swear this story deserves a whole book about first contact and friendly communications between our worlds. This was a cute introduction. And I’ve probably heard it 15 times now. Definitely an A tier story just below First Contact in S tier and the Dungeon Core stories in SS tier.
Then the tribute ship arrived. " You will provide 3 million tons of candy . If you refuse you will forfeit one major city and the tribute will be double."
Hershey's and Mars put away their long-standing rivalry to fill the order, only for the aliens to be confused about where to go for pickup and they land on the planet Mars, waiting on a lady diplomat to deliver the goods.
It's good to be reminded that SF doesn't always have to be blood and guts space battles. That sometimes it can lift up its skirts and have a bit of fun... Beep boop 😆👌👍
PSA: Don't offer candy to random children who may be special needs and who may have run away from home. They may have diabetes or allergy. And good luck trying to explain that to the judge.
That ending tho. Ahktshuallee, When they come back they don't have to pretend to be unaccompanied children. They could probably bring a ton of gold or diamonds and buy all the high fructose corn syrup their ships can hold.
The printout of that particular SETI signal was immortalized with the note which had been jotted down by that night's grad student on watch: "Well, that one's already been here"
