I agree. I can't think of a situation where I'd like to share with one other team let alone 4 other teams. There seem to be a lot of secondary stadium that can be refurbished to house teams. The only question is who would remain.
I live in Ontario, Canada, and was introduced to the VFL in the 1970s when matches from Channel 7 were (somehow) shown on the PBS station in Detroit. Australian Footy (stop with the "Aussie Rules" stuff, OK??) is the greatest team sport in the world, in my far-from-humble opinion. Really appreciated seeing the comparisons of the grounds they used this past season - Thanks for this!!
I'm a Melburnian. You're right that people would call it "footy" here. My dad and uncle played in the seniors in the VFL... but thanks to a PE teacher/football coach who was a bit of a tool I played "soccer" - which some of us would provocatively call "football" around footy players. I can tell you that people told me I should play "football" and would use "Aussie Rules" to clarify when I said I did! That was a common distinguishing name around me at that time. Footy more likely means rugby (probably league) in Sydney and Brisbane. Channel 9 here aired a different "The Footy Show" in QLD and NSW for NRL fans when it aired an AFL version for the rest of the country. People seem to say "AFL footy/football" when required now.
5:03. Bowl stadiums often end up looking lifeless, even with a good crowd in, but the 'G' always looks majestic. Whenever I see it it's hard not to think of all the great and different eras it's been through, with antique styled member's stands and modern facilties, and it still retains that class.
It's definitely a shame that Melbourne is split between two stadiums, I like that in London all their football clubs have different grounds. But at least the two stadiums are beautiful! I'm Canadian and new to the league I absolutely love how these stadiums look would love to go to one

If you go to the MCG Long Room there is a photo of Bradman's Invincibles all decked out in baseball uniforms after a game. Several players from that team and era would have cut it as professionals. Look up the details for Neil Harvey and his talented brothers. If you look up records of a letter held at Australian Museum Sydney you will find a letter written by the great Victor Trumper to a schoolboy that wrote to him. Victor had played baseball with the Paddington Club at a time when the Moore Park area had several sports played. It was fitting that in 2014 the SCG was converted to a MLB standard facility to host the season opening series between LAD and ARI. It commemorated what had happened a century earlier. Time lapse imagery of the conversion is on YT.
The MCG also holds / held a record for a baseball game attendance. The 56 Olympics featured baseball as an exhibition sport. A game was played before a packed house after the Opening Ceremony took place.

If we use 2019 as the example the AFL brought in a total of $793 Million but after all revenue, operating costs, Investments into AFLW and Grassroot distributions, the AFL total profit for 2019 was $27.9 Million. So without another stadium with a capacity of 90k or more it's not financially viable to host it away from the MCG

In the end the AFL is a business and a Grandfinal at the MCG is it's rainy day fund unless we have every stadium at a capacity of 90k+ it's not a financially viable option.
Remember that the MCC leeches take up 25,000 seats themselves and are unable to be sold by the AFL. Any other stadium would not need to accommodate them. 70,000 capacity is a very reasonable number. Hell, even 60k is fine to have a discussion about. if 60,000 capacity is enough for the Champions League Final and Olympics, it's more than enough for an obscure sport's pseudo-national league final match.
I agree as a American AFL Premiership Gran Final always should be at the MCG . But if they keep your state of Victoria closed it should move until they end this insane lockdown in your area
