I've platform towed in the Owens Valley with Mark Gibson and Kerry Castle, and flown XC in eastern Washington. I didn't have such a nice glider though. Mike Bomstad always makes this look easy, way to go pilot. I also remember flying into dust devils to try and find lift... it was like flying into a dust storm and I once realized I was going in the same direction as the spin, I had to leave it and fly back into it against the wind/dust. It nearly broke my wing, but I climbed out of that hole in that dust devil😈, I said thank you.

Flew tandem on a hang glider with an instructor at Bong Recreation Area in Wisconsin in the 70's. On one flight the tow line broke soon after release from the truck. and we dived instantly and luckily had enough altitude for a good flare.

Several people were flying with somewhat similar wings from the 1850s in Europe. No need for the Wilburs here. Cudos to those people and their daring and exploring spirit. No motors needed for the art of flying, maybe some feet..
Yes, generally when you get over or near it you will start climbing. Its a very fine dust that's out there. We see more of them in that area because of it.
That's a really interesting world of aviation! Are there NOTAMs for gliding activity in the areas you fly? I fear you'd be hard to spot from an airplane.
Mark here again... I'd like to ask you a couple of questions when you get yourself into a thermal (given you have your face in the wind)? . . . As you hit a thermal, do you sense any of the following: 1. sudden serious change in temperature?( do you face like a a waterfall of cold sinking air on the leeward side followed by a sudden warm air updraft?), 2. a change in sound (does the updraft of the thermal sound different?) . And here is a crazy concept - a thermal is suppose to have a serious static electric build up every thought that perhaps you feel, maybe, a static shock or dryness in the air (related to static build up). . Any observations?
There are times you can feel the temp difference. Nothing that dramatic though. A small core, strong thermal you can hear sometimes. Never had any issue with static. Haven't heard or talked to any others that have either. Maybe the slower speeds we fly?
Wow, what release height do you reach with such an insanely long road? We can only dream of something like that here in Germany, it would probably go through two federal states and 5 different airspaces 😅 And kudos for the great camera work!
Ha! A logistical nightmare that would be! Very lucky to have this place to tow. This was an 1800' tow in 3 miles. (I think was can tow as far as 7 miles if needed)
How long in terms of time was your flight? The design of the wing is absolutely cool. I've never seen something like it before. Thank you for sharing the video.

The 10 minutes or however long this flight was, looked to far exceed the fun and enjoyment factor I’ve had in 20 odd thousand hours of airline type flying. Unfortunately it wouldn’t feed the kids or pay the mortgage.
This flight was 2.5 hours. Top of lift was 8700' (there is a link to the flight details in the description) It is the most fun! It wont pay the bills, but like me just have to go flying when the day is good and you can go! :-) Longest flight I had was 193 mile FAI triangle, 7hrs 18 min
You do me 20 thousand hours sitting in a plane watching a computer fly. What is it an actual pilot flies for 10min a flight? I think that's the stats from Qantas
Wow oh wow. As a glider pilot, may I suggest you come out to a local glider club and give it a try. I mean you are already experienced at thermalling at 5,000ft - maybe our form of flying is boring to you, or on the other hand you may enjoy our height category.
Where is the local glider Club? My highest altitude out there was 14725' Generally we are at the top of lift in the area which is anywhere from 8,000 to 13000t' normally

Several people were flying with somewhat similar wings from the 1850s in Europe. No need for the Wilburs here. Cudos to those people and their daring and exploring spirit. No motors needed for the art of flying, maybe some feet..
The dream of flight knows no country! Its incredible how far its all come.
So cool? Does a dust devil indicate the origin of a rising thermal? Amazing! Thanks!
😁👍
There is not. Where we tow, there is a HG symbol on the sectional.
It's a big sky fortunately. So far no close calls
@@MikeBomstad sorta scary!

Mark here again... I'd like to ask you a couple of questions when you get yourself into a thermal (given you have your face in the wind)?
.
.
.
As you hit a thermal, do you sense any of the following:
1. sudden serious change in temperature?( do you face like a a waterfall of cold sinking air on the leeward side followed by a sudden warm air updraft?),
2. a change in sound (does the updraft of the thermal sound different?)
.
👍🛩️🔥крутяк молодец.
Thanks!!!!
Wow, what release height do you reach with such an insanely long road?
We can only dream of something like that here in Germany, it would probably go through two federal states and 5 different airspaces 😅
And kudos for the great camera work!
Ha! A logistical nightmare that would be!
Very lucky to have this place to tow. This was an 1800' tow in 3 miles. (I think was can tow as far as 7 miles if needed)
Seems like it would be worth shutting down the Autobahn for!
I was thinking the same thing!
@@brianc7528 One does not simply shut down the Autobahn!
Until now? ;-)
Yet another way to have fun with a pickup truck.
yep! one of the best!
Thanks!

Nice 👍
Thanks :-)
Very good, i like you
Great, thanks!
Anyone know why those green spots are perfect circles.
Maybe it's easier to irrigate.
the irrigation tower is in the center and the pipe rotates around it. effortless watering
@@justme-n-gracie Yeah that was kind of my guess thank you.
They are center pivot irrigation. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Center-pivot_irrigation
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
😁👍😎😀👍👍👍
carbon fiber wing?
It is, it does not rely on side wires.
It has flaps, spoilerons. And a tail that's compensated with the flap adjustment
Can it be used,for 🌪 air🌪 to carry,a person from👉Cuba-🇨🇺 to the 👉United States-🇺🇸 😄😄😄😄
😁🤣 I don't think so😉... Maybe
We welcome you with open arms! Freedom is better than socialism. The biggest concern though, is that the US is getting less free every year!
How long in terms of time was your flight? The design of the wing is absolutely cool. I've never seen something like it before. Thank you for sharing the video.
This flight was 2.5 hours. Top of lift was 8700' (there is a link to the flight details in the description) The Atos is a work of art, flies very well. www.air-atos.de/copy-of-vrs-light
You are welcome. Happy to share the experience. Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thank you watching an commenting.

Seems getting high and more high

Yes!
Crazy height on the tow :-) ! How high did you take it before pinging off ?
This was an 1800' tow.
1000 -2000' is generally how high.
Depends on the conditions of the day.👍

Thank you very much, Glad you enjoyed. Thank s for the comment.
Longest flight I had was 193 mile FAI triangle, 7hrs 18 min
You do me 20 thousand hours sitting in a plane watching a computer fly. What is it an actual pilot flies for 10min a flight? I think that's the stats from Qantas
@@atw98stupid comment
Yeah. These guys suck. You are so mich better
is that a private road , its just perfect for take offs , very well set uo , whats the height when you drop the tow .
Its not, just has very little traffic :-) Depends on the day and the lift you are in, anywhere from 1000'- 2500', (I once took a tow to 3k)
how high was this?
the tow was 1800', I thermaled up to 8700'. link to the flight details in the description.
wie lange war das Seil ?
I towed to around 500 meters, there is 1500 meter of line available
Там наверное было очень холодно на высоте.
on this day it wasn't too cold. Some days =, yes it very cold even in summer
Wow oh wow. As a glider pilot, may I suggest you come out to a local glider club and give it a try. I mean you are already experienced at thermalling at 5,000ft - maybe our form of flying is boring to you, or on the other hand you may enjoy our height category.
Where is the local glider Club?
My highest altitude out there was 14725'
Generally we are at the top of lift in the area which is anywhere from 8,000 to 13000t' normally
I get to fly with them occasionally ruclips.net/video/1jpHks6Vv_M/видео.html
Not much ground effect on landing. Sink?
What’s your lowest save in the Atos?
There was a bit of wind / thermal activity. (and full flaps)
3-500' was the lowest I've had. There a vid somewhere in the archives.
What altitude did you reach looks pretty high up cheers
I usually have a link to the flight details in the description, this flight was 8700'. The ground is roughly 2000'
Cheers!
Check out that perfectly straight cloud at the end. Just weird….
I know! There were a lot of unique clouds that day. Odd indeed,
