    I'm a South Korean with a high possibility of being conscripted something like 2 years from now (Just like Singapore, South Korea conscripts male citizens)
    On the internet, I have seen many people complaining about the South Korean army like "The army ditches soldiers when they die or get injured", "It's a waste of time", "Soldiers are treated like slaves", "At the army, you get to know how little your life costs" and all those complaints are haunting me
    A few questions about the Singaporean army:
    1. Does hazing exist? (Are there incidents in which soldiers are beaten by their comrades to death?)
    2. How much are Singaporean conscripts paid? (My cousin who served from 2012 to 2014 was paid something like $167 per month when he was a sergeant. Luckily, the pay for soldiers has gradually increased, so in 2022 sergeants will be paid like $800)
    3. Is the Singaporean Ministry of Defence bashed for concealing hazing incidents? (Because that's true for OUR Ministry of National Defense)
    4. Do Singaporeans go like "NS is 2-year slavery" as well?
    5. Are there TVs, computer rooms, or grocery stores in the Singaporean army? (There are in the South Korean army currently)
    6. Is the meal tasteless? (Lots of Koreans say so about ours)
    7. Is the SMD bashed for propaganda?
    8. In South Korea, mainly if you serve for the Ground Force, in the boot camp there's a stupid rule which forces you to move around in groups of 3. Does the Singaporean boot camp have something like that?

    • @sexkinger
      @sexkinger 5 лет назад +5

      Hi, I finished my service on May 2018 as a Corporal in the Artillery
      1. Hazing is a relatively rare thing nowadays, rarely heard about it in the Singapore army. You heard about stories but most deaths are due to training or negligence.
      2. A recruit is paid around S$560, and it scales all the way to the highest rank a conscript soldier can be which is a lieutenant, paid around $1260. Thats just the base pay, you can still get addtional pay by going into a combat unit(S$100-300), getting risk pay by being in a dangerous vocation like EOD (S$100(?))
      3. Like stated in point 1, hazing is relatively unheard of. But deaths used to be concealed till now where there is social media so deaths are widely known for the most part
      4. NS will be slavery if you think it is, everyone has to do it, some have it easier than others. For me, I found it ok mainly because the people and my superiors are nice.
      5. In Singapore, you get to go out of camp to home every Friday and come back into camp on Mondays for most people. As Singapore is a small place so going to home takes 2 hours maximum. So there is no need for computer rooms or TVs, we can still indulge tin those leisure activities when at home during the weekends.
      6. Yes, some meal is tasteless, sometimes the meals are good. After boot camp(BMT in singapore), when there is permission,we can call in delivery from outside like pizza, McDonalds, KFC etc
      7. Sorry what is SMD? But there is propaganda in the army for sure haha
      8. Yes boot camp , everyone has to do things in a pair called the buddy system. But if you don't do it, just hope you don't get caught :)
      Hope I answered your questions

      @김지원-v5o 5 лет назад

      @@sexkinger 2. In 2017 sergeants were paid like $257. The South Korean Ministry of National Defense really used to lack in respect for soldiers, it seems (And in 2012, when soldiers were paid even worse, the Constitutional Court even declared such low pay was constitutional) Glad the pay is gradually increasing
      4. Then do some meet nasty people and superiors, and have it harder than others?
      5. For us, it's not like we get to go out regularly... it would be nice if the South Korean army adopts that
      6. We have a kind of grocery stores in the camp. Do you?
      7. I meant Singaporean Ministry of Defence by SMD

    • @sexkinger
      @sexkinger 5 лет назад

      @@김지원-v5o Jiwon Kim 4. Yeah there are some nasty superiors but they were not there for a long time, only temporary. Only made us do some push ups and jumping jacks though.
      6. Don't really have grocery stores. Only maybe a canteen to buy snacks
      7. We dont called it SMD, but rather MINDEF(Ministry of defense). Yes they do get bashed for propaganda sometimes hahaha

    • @김지원-v5o
      @김지원-v5o 5 лет назад

      @@sexkinger Wait, I forgot something. What I heard is that Singaporean conscripts get like $9000 and other rewards when they complete their service. Is that true? Here in South Korea there are NO such rewards

    • @sexkinger
      @sexkinger 5 лет назад

      @@김지원-v5o When you complete your service, you get like I believe minimum 2000 dollars in your CPF Medisave (Something like a health account) and 3000 into your PSEA(For further studies). If your rank is 3rd SGT and above you'll get 3500 in your PSEA instead. So yeah technically you get minimum 5000 when you finish your service. After our service we also have a yearly reservist where after your service you have to go back to camp about once a year(for up to 5 days to 40 days). Completing some reservist(maybe around 3-5 years of reservist activities) will get you another 3000(CPF OA) and 2000(Medisave), completing all your reservist duties(which can take around to ten years or more) will get you another 3000(CPF OA) and 2000(Medisave). So in total , i guess from your service ends till completion of reservist, you'll get in total 15000. I guess its better than nothing.

      Terrificten I think you will be jailed for a specific amount of time, or you will be forced back to Singapore to enlist in NS, I mean, escaping is not a good thing, you cannot escape it for some time, but not your whole life, I’m 12 currently, though I would say that I’m frightened to enlist in the National Service in the next few years, but it doesn’t mean like you will die in National Service, I do think that at this age, we shouldn’t be thinking of enlisting National Service yet, what we should care is about our Education, and the paths we want to go.
