The Undertaker seems to be the person who cares the most about the WWE. More so than HHH or any of the McMahons. Every time you hear a story about him it's about how he put someone over or did right by the company. I haven't heard a single story about how he was stubborn and refused to do something due to his ego.
I've heard similar except there was only 1 story I've heard that was bad about the undertaker. Apparently during his first fued with Brock, he "wasn't feeling it" when he was asked to put him over, so they did a non-finish, but that was literally the only somewhat-ego fueled thing I've heard him do.
At a time where no one was giving Jericho his and no one was respecting his performances, Undertaker went out of his way to find, approach, and talk to him after his match just to praise him on what a great champion he was. Jesus, I will never NOT love the Undertaker. Inside and outside the ring, the man is fucking perfect and, even though no one thinks about it, is the glue that holds the whole company together. Not Cena, not NXT, not old part timers from past Era's, not the 24+ ppv's a year, not the spectacular revival of the cruiser weight division and not the revamp of the women's division. No, none of that. It's the fucking UNDERTAKER that keeps WWE afloat, and they will be utterly lost when he leaves.
I bet Jericho was like kinda upset because his title reign was so poorly booked and HHH was always trying to push him back, Taker boosted his morale for sure
lel Undertaker is the most professional man the WWE has ever seen. To paraphrase Mr Kennedy (Kennedy) "There are 2 mountains, one with guys like The Undertaker that is throwing ropes down and telling others that there is plenty of room at the top, the other with guys like Triple H and Shawn Michaels that are throwing boulders down." Undertaker has, does and always will care about the future stars of the business, even if they ended up with comedy acts years after their Debut, Khali and Koslov come to mind.
Hearing that Undertaker took time to praise Jericho directly after that match just boosts my respect for the Dead Man. That's class right there, from one of the best in wrestling history.
This proves once again that the Undertaker is a straight up BOSS. He didn't need to talk up Y2J but the fact that he did makes me respect the man even more, which is something I didn't think was even possible by this point.
imagine being Chris Jericho and seeing your paycheck and asking triple h and see your getting five times less for being in that main event as undisputed champ they going to your boss and yell at him to demand more money and probably expecting to get wrote off TV for a while then actually get more money from VINCE MCMAHON
I was at this Wrestlemania.. never witnessed anything like it before or since..Rock vs Hogan match the stadium was shaking I couldn't here my brother next to me.. one my fondest memories of my life
I was there too. I was a semi fan going with 'real fans' and didn't know how BIG the event was... but during the Hogan match i remember thinking: I don't think this is supposed to be happening! The fans are rewriting the script!
this is the one I have been waiting for. was lucky enough to be there for rock and Hogan and the feeling in the air was indescribable. it was my own wrestle mania moment that I will remember forever
Personally, X8 was one of the best Wrestlemania's for me. The pre-match packages built quite a lot of hype for their associated matches, and it's also one of the few remaining live performances of Drowning Pool with Dave Williams as the frontman before his death. Triple H's entrance to the The Game by Drowning Pool was fantastic and just fit the hype so well. I loved the Hardcore 24/7 rule bout throughout the event, as it was just great. Every match on the card deserved a round of applause, and even the women's belt match was good albeit not the finest work in the division at mania.
Wrestlemania needs to return to Canada. I don't care what city it just needs to be back in Canada. Especially after Toronto got one of the big 4 ppvs this year in Survivor Series and did a great job hosting the weekend.
Note that when he later accounted for bolting from the company in an interview, Austin actually whined that he "wasn't even in the main event" at WrestleMania (in those exact words) as one of the reasons for his discontent. The toughest prima donna in WWE...
Another fact is that WWE wanted Sting to debut and face Kurt Angle but when Sting declined the offer, they threw Kurt into a very good, but nonsensical match with Kane instead.
Jericho's undisputed title reign could have amazing. Even though he was a heel, which allows for some dodgy wins, he was booked so piss poor that I thought I would never see him as world champion again
I was there and Hogan v Rock was incredible. When Hogan hulked up, I’m positive that has to be the loudest crowd reaction in WWE history. I’ve never heard anything like it. Even Rock fans were booing him, it was an incredible atmosphere
I remember as a kid never being able to see/afford WWF Ppvs. I remember being excited every PPV Sunday being able to just see the PPV stage on Sunday night Heat.
Undertaker will forever be great in my eyes for what he did for Jericho. And, uh, was it that much of a surprise that HHH made more money than Jericho in the main event? Come on now.
The last one would have explained why Jericho was not booked for Backlash of 2002 and in the end was scheduled to just cut a promo, it was cause he was pissed off about his pay. Then when he got paid more he would face off against Triple H in a hell in the cell match at Judgment Day 2002.
Triple H's career has always been notoriously pampered by Vince McMahon. between burying fresh talent in the span of 20 years, almost always being in the main event, the inherited corporate role, and the ridiculously pay that contrasts his match competitor, it's hard seeing a future in WWE especially if you're told HHH is going to work you. (by work they mean bury your dreams) CM Punk has always been outspoken about how he gets undercut in both the main event of PPV's and pay(especially in contrast to a Mr. Helmsey)
Always? hilarious but no. he did go from jobber to main eventer in roughly 4 years. Which is impressive indeed. But HHHs success does come from the kliq and marrying Steph. But he did have a portion where he wasn't so up on Vinces list of guys
Jericho really is the GOAT. Like hes the one man that never did backstage politics that I know off. Was always willing to put ever anybody. Case and point fandago at WM. Jericho to me is the best combined Worker and Talker in history business. Their are better workers then him and better talkers. But for combined I would have to say he was the best. Can't wait for his match with Owens. Plus I heard he is coming right back in like two months after Payback. He is having so much fun working with all the new talent that hes never wrestled. Plus he loves putting them over he will win here and there but that needed to keep him somewhat strong.
You’re always telling me something that I didn’t know.. not too many people can do that much less do it every time they make a video about wrestlemania. Props 👏👏
Massive tips to Undertaker for taking time out to praise Jericho for his time as champion. And it wouldn't surprise me if Vince didn't argue about cutting a cheque for Jericho because he respected the balls it would have taken for him to actually go to the boss (especially one like McMahon) and tell him he wasn't happy that his opponent made 5 times what he did for a Wrestlemania main event match. Vince had a reputation for hating "yes" men working for him and Jericho doing what he did took guts. Vince probably respected that.
I think that sometimes Vince wants his mega stars to be more demanding not only mindlessly obeying the company lines, the way he did let some of his mega stars get away with things meant he wants them to fight back. But yes, if they don't fight back then Vince will treat them like total trash for the rest of their careers.
I remember the myth that people thought it was supposed to be Hogan vs Austin but that was never what was planned, fact is Austin was supposed to win at Vengeance 2001 and hold the title until Mania where HHH would beat him. Austin wasn't as big as the Rock was in 2002 tbh.
#2 was interesting yeah I remember that shoot by Triple H but I recall it being after WM18. But respect points to Undertaker it's amazing we never got a Jericho vs Undertaker feud.
HHH and Jericho (along with Taker) were my fave wrestlers then so I was happy they were the main event. Can't even hate on Trips winning the title because the whole storyline coming back from injury was a great one. They even take the title off him a month later to give it to Hogan.
One thing that wasn’t mentioned was Scott Hall and Kevin Nash almost didn’t make the event due to visa issues coming into Canada due to assault and gun charges
If Vince really was "testing" Jericho by seeing how he would react to a slight, it would appear that Jericho responded in the way that Vince had hoped for. It's a pretty good managerial tactic on Vince's part, really. It's definitely smart and savvy to have a real gauge on how a guy ticks. Well played, Vinny-Mac. Well played...

6:30 It was possible that McMahon knew about TNA Wrestling being founded months after and didn't want Jericho to perform there, maybe? I always thought that it was gonna be Austin vs Hogan not Rock vs Hogan too.
BY GAWD! Undertaker is awesome. Giving Y2J his props.... The man really is an awesome human being, by all accounts. And Y2J demanding his due pay, also awesome. I feel like he was owed it for straight-up OWNING Goldberg backstage.....

Taker is such a Gentleman, a truly old-school wrestler with the right values, HHH is the opposite
lel walking that whole way to congratulate Jericho, i hope someone asks how he felt when Taker did that for him
I bet Jericho was like kinda upset because his title reign was so poorly booked and HHH was always trying to push him back, Taker boosted his morale for sure
