      You see some people you just can't give money to. Who in their right mind would invest millions of dollars into a whale that you can't even be in the tank with just so the whale can splash the audience? If you want to Splash the audience why not just get one of those air cannons that they use in Hollywood movies when they want to simulate bullets hitting the water.

      Right because if you look it up or if you watch the Tillicum story(it’s on Netflix called blackfish in case you wanna watch it) he only ate 3 people being a 12,000lb killer whale, being held in captivity,abused by female orcas,and if he ever did something wrong they would make him starve, I’m surprised that he didn’t eat tons more people that just shows you that there not naturally aggressive animals and the even sadder part is they never let him go they kept making him do shows and he was there for 33 years before he died

      That's their maximum life span. They *can* live to be 90 years old, but that doesn't mean they will, and it only applies to females as males have a shorter life span. Their average life span is between 30-60 years old. There has only ever been one case of a female killer whale reaching 90 years, and her name was J2 Granny.

      @PlanetBlake 5 лет назад +3

      @Greta Halleniece : Correct. Orcas aren't not known to prey on humans -- at least there has never been any recorded attacks for prey purposes that I am aware of... There is a recorded attack/bite on a surfer, but he did not die, and it may of just been a curiosity bite situation.. There have been some other reports of orcas threatening humans in the wild, but they didn't escalate into prey/attack mode. That said though, in the history of mankind, one has to figure there have been some unreported/unknown attacks, some with no witnesses and no remains. If some fishermen or swimmers back in the 13th century gotten attacked and/or eaten by an orca, it may not have ever been recorded, or the story just got lost in history...etc. But yeah, rarely if ever do humans have to be too worried about an attack. But you still don't want to get too close to them because they could kill you even just by accident of their sheer size and power -- as we've seen with some of these captive ones.

      Actually it is. That was the name given to Orca’s in the early days, and a bunch of movies and posters were used as propaganda to kinda present Orcas as a dangerous marine animal. That is not the case. They are really loving creatures who adore humans as we do them and are never shy to peak their heads near a whale watching boat or some tourist thing to pop up and just give a quick hi and allow us to touch their heads and stuff. But there is a point when enough is enough. These whales are held captive against their will PERIOD.

    I am against going to popular parks such as SeaWorld. There have always been concerns about not only the safety of raising wild animals in captivity but of the humaneness of it as well. Viewing revealing documentary films such as "Blackfish" and "The Cove" has opened my eyes and has made me detest places such as zoos and circuses, both because of the dangers to the trainers and because of the physical and psychological damage done to the animals. Very few people are aware of just how abusive these attractions can be.
    In Japan, the dolphins - including newborns - who are not captured into captivity to be sold to SeaWorld are slaughtered in a cove and then layed out in rows on the sands of beaches to be taken away and sold as meat in supermarkets and at attractions. Dolphin meat is often sold at the SeaWorld in Japan, near to the dolphin attractions, and is intentionally mislabeled as whale meat because whale meat sells for more money. The dolphin meat itself is highly poisened with mercury.

  • @SaraNightfire1
    @SaraNightfire1 10 лет назад +10

    The reason that Tillikum's fin is flopped over is the tank from his previous owner was too small. They can't replace the fin, so it sadly is permanent and even with a huge ocean out there he was in, he'd still have that fin in that condition. Whales are smart and live in pods, but most at this point were raised in the park. They rely on humans for food and even though they still sometimes have the instincts of a whale, especially ones like Tilikum who WAS actually wild caught, they associate humans with food. Which always leads to disaster due to them heading towards human settlements for food.
    The trainers also know that these whales can have moments. They are trained on how to handle it, it takes generations of breeding to get any animal, to be fully tame, the problem is that they are now raised by humans: (food equals humans feeding them.) But are still going by the generation to reach the point where they won't have the instincts as high up as usual whales. Most whales won't react like this.

      dorsal fins actually do go back in the wild the collagen in their fin breaks down not due to the lack of water they have (thought that’s a very big issue) it’s bc they are jumping out of water more then they usually would in the wild and it breaks down in warm air. it will go back once he is in cooler water for longer. other reasons why dorsal fins break down is stress

But I feel that some people that are pro wild life for killer whales, dolphins etc. will do anything to get them in the wild. Even if it means lying about what really happens. With the trainers and how they are treated and stuff. Now I am not saying that the documentary's are lying and I am not saying that they are not. I am just saying that it is a possibility. That's all.

    • @SaraNightfire1

      MzBeats
      The thing is, though... These animals were raised in captivity. One: They're used to this life, they don't know any other. Anyone or anything, even a human, trapped in a cage, or a house, who's never seen anything else, when suddenly wrenched out of it and thrown god-knows where, even if it's their natural habitat, will be severely scared, disoriented, and have severe problems adapting. And ALL of these orcas except Tilikum who WASN'T captured by Sea World were raised in captivity. They associate humans with food, they associate humans with shelter, with protection, with care and socialization outside their own pod. Even if you take them out in the ocean and they adapt, it'll take them at least a generation to realize that humans aren't safe. IF they live that long. And how do you expect them to "let them go" and "be free"? They have to associate people with danger and staying away. There's a lot of bad things that have happened to practically tame wild animals. Google Japan and whaling sometime, you'd LOVE to see what they do to whales, especially ones that would swim right up to them.
      It's not as easy as: "Let them go, they'll be fine." Or: "This is cruel and driving them insane." Even if you keep them in a pen in the ocean for the rest of their lives, how will they not escape? How will breeding be controlled? Whales are highly social animals who live with their families together their whole lives, is it fair to keep them separated for generations to keep them going?

    Why do we ever keep animals in captivity. They have a life to. They should live their life free instead of being forced to splash the audience. They should be in their real home in the wild not kept in captivity to entertain us. Now I know people rescue wild animals. Then build a place where it looks like the wild that makes them feel like they are home. For example tigers. Ppl take or "rescue" tigers and put them in zoos saying they rescued them. That is NOT rescuing them. That is keeping them in a small glass case and us just looking at them. They should have a place where they can roam free like the wild. I know there are some places like that, but not many. We should have MORE. So STOP taking animals from they homes and let them be. Or if they are in a danger zone then make a place that is big like there home.

    Humans try and domestic wild animals that belong in the wild, then they are shocked when an animal fights back. These animals do not belong to us. Nor is there any agurable reason for them being put on display for humans to watch and awe at. If you want to see something truly beautiful you can go to their natural habitat and see them thriving.

    Why are people writing that the trainers deserved to die? What if they just aspired to see these animals as kids and so when they got the opportunity to train one they were really happy? It's not the trainer's fault that the whales were captured but the organisation as a whole for capturing the whales and recruiting trainers to train them.

  • @Aethuviel

    At one minute in, that clip was in the debunked propaganda film Blackfish, but only the bit saying "the whales were agitated".
    The part with the witness speaking was cut, but she said she thought the animals were agitated because "they did not get in the water with the whale". Obviously she did not know Tilly has always been a non-waterwork whale, but the BF directors did, yet used that part of "agitated animals" anyway.
    Tilikum was never a waterwork whale because he, and the two females Haida 2 and Nootka 4, were never trained in water desensitization; having trainers in the water with them. SeaWorld continues desensitization with all their other whales to this day - in order to prevent accidents just like this. It's just never been done with Tilikum because when he came to SeaWorld, he had already killed, because of his lack of training at Sealand.

    I cant imagine Sea World not being held liable for the accident in that the Orca naturally travels thousands of miles a year in a natural environment, and in variable water temperatures, thousands of feet deep. Ailments related to a small cramped environment can be endless, as well as a direct cause of the accident. I pray for the souls of those injured by the Orca, and those who have lost their lives.
