- With only 2,905 of these wagons being produced in 1958, the Star Chief Safari Wagon was the top of the line trim package for Pontiac. After being found as a rock solid project in the desert landscape of Wyoming, the wagon received a high end custom restoration by the team at MetalWorks.
The Pontiac wagon is a resto mod that retains its factory 370 engine that has been topped with a custom tri-power EFI system with Holley controls.

Everything nice, except for those wheels.
Wheels are what they are..held on by 5 bolts..He brought her back to life...realy don't like wheels.
Agreed, needs something a little more classical in the wheel department.
@@michaelcagle5938 Simply stunning work but I'm sorry to say I believe that those particular wheels detract from the look of this magnificent classic. Please remove them and replace with factory style wheels and covers. What a beauty!
Nothin' short of gorgeous ! Great car .
That dash is gorgeous!
This car body was made 4 miles from my house! We were always so proud of Fisher Body!
OK, you guys are over-the-top!!! Your attention to detail is second to none.
Beautiful restoration!! A true work of art.
Headexplodingly beautiful 😍😍😍😍 Thanks for sharing this!
Nice job fellas... The photos reminds me of the time my brother and I did my 55 RANCH WAGON.... That SAFARI is rare indeed ! You guys saved it !
Great job Absolutely beautiful. Nothing beats the look & styling of an older car. Modern cars can’t compare to the looks of a classic car. Again great job. 👍🏻
Really enjoyed the before pix, what a survivor!
It looked better before lol
What a great job. Thanks for sharing.
Takes me back in time.im 68yrs old.
Thanks for posting and sharing. Beautiful work.
Gorgeous Just gorgeous.
Absolutely beautiful !!! Amazing job by you and your crew !! So nice to see something out of the ordinary 👍👍👍👍
Hi nice work!! the only words I have when I look at the finished car is WOW! I miss those days when cars still had character! Acid dipping is truly the way to go. I've rebuilt cars and dealing with the rust is very challenging.
Rich
She is beautiful, love all that chrome, wagons are awesome
Old school restorers good job
excellent work as usual top notch craftsmanship
Excellent work on this one but way more than I would have done... now you can't use it because of fear of some one scratching it or door dings... and I love the style of the old PONTIACS especially the wagons. The 370 is a cool engine.. growing up on the farm we had a 58 chieftain 4 door we used to drive to school. It had the 370/ 2 bbl carb but still had lots of power...
Fantastic, meticulous work! All GM 58’s were homely.
Awesome job. A level of professionalism not easy to find.
Thanks, great Work , & Creation. (* admittedly, I am OEM , with safety first, Fan).
Great job, excellent job, great car, congrats !❤
That was an osem video ..what a great effort on the camara part..
Besides the cool wagon, I like the tune at the end.
Great job!!!
You brought her back to life again and then some!
Great built love what you did ❤
Nice ya got her back..can save cars but we can't live forever, but they can❤
Nice sled!
That was a true labour of love. The artists at Metalworks must have had a blast working on it. Too bad about the wheels - that style just doesn't work with 1958 aesthetics.
👍🤩love it
Great looking Oliver, got a little whine in the gear box also , but most of em did
Love that car rolling art
thanks a lot!!
Hot Damn! A real car made with Detroit heavy metal.
She is beautiful.
Beautiful! Just Beautiful 🥰to bad no narration 😳but still Great 😬
While I admire the vast amount of excellent work that was done, I would rather that it had been brought back to original factory specs and colors.
Imagine yhe assembly line guys who built these originally, just picking the parts from stock. Bet they probably complained about all the trim and bling this car had. any Idea how many were produced? I love the 57 coupe too, so hard to find these today. Saw a 57 in Colo for sale couple years ago out in a field...in pretty good shape relatiely speaking. This one was super solid, I was surprised at the metal condiyion in your teardown photos...like garage kept forever. nice start to a stellar finish. beautiful!
Well everyone has its own taste gor me the wheels are fine
Beautiful 😍😍😍 car❤
I only wish the '58 Impala had the same larger, fancier fender ornaments the '58 Pontiac had. Interestingly enough, the '59 models both had similar (beautiful) fender ornaments.
We had a 59 Pontiac station wagon
My dad had a 58 safari . 3-2's ,air ride.
The interior and exterior look very nice, I especially like the steering wheel restoration. It's too bad about the engine and chassis modifications though. But, hey, it's not my car.
No voice over?
I own a 77 Vista Cruiser with a 455 in it right now not driving it though
Car would be worth 10 x more with an original restoration and color scheam . Different strokes for different folks need to see some of the cars Charles Phoenix show cases.
Can't say that we agree with that as a gorgeous "stock" restored 58 Safari wagon just sold at the Mecum Kissimmee auction $104k and one week later our wagon sold for $165k at Scottsdale Barrett. www.mecum.com/lots/1110246/
Many guys have the ambition to accomplish this project the issue is money😢.
What paint you use
I would much rather have the 'Before' to be honest.
They didn't show us how the exhaust was fabricated
are those the new art morrison chasis
No, the wagon retains its stock frame.
My uncle always said a station wagons àre HEARSES
We left it in Michigan after it rotted out after 4 years Oscoda
Beautiful, but those wheels 😝
Hood script is missing?
