Its not bad for those people who are looking for a sporty little econo box car, that would not care about 0 to 60 times or track performance. Its enough sportiness to keep them happy!
They could have at least made the engine more powerful. To me this doesn't look like it's worth the added expense compared to an LTZ Turbo, as they had mentioned in the video.
Hey motorweek, no 60-0 distance with the addition of the rear disk? Also the shifting was really grandma like not wonder you couldnt beat the ltz time plus if you leave stabilitrack on through the slalom you're going to post slower times. The light was flashing.
When i heard about this turbo engine I thought it was going to target the fuel economy fanatics. but once you see the interior of this car you can tell they are trying to go for the hot hatch market. With 60 hp less then its competitors; you gotta be a sucker to buy this over a Fiesta ST or GTI.
To even put this in the same category as a Fiesta ST is laughable. Drive both - you'll understand. The ST's driving dynamics are in a different stratosphere.... not to mention the power
i own a fiesta 1.0 and i'm almost making the same hp! anyway good to see the most interesting sub compacts are american and its also cool that its built in the usa .
the RS may cost more than the LTZ but once you option up the LTZ, you'll find that they are extremely similar. The RS has most of those options on the LTZ as standard
Mr. Jab ..... I agree I just bought a 2015 Sonic LTZ and I also test drove the RS and you really can't notice the difference, I say get a quick flow K&N performance intake for around 250 bucks and add about 8 HP and 8 FP of torque to you engine, you will be a happy camper.
Had Chevy found 10 more horsepower, and maybe added a stiffer suspension, I feel like this could have been a budget GTi. The fact it was basically the same as every other Sonic didnt do it any favors.
With a lot of these economy cars I wish they wouldn't always test the the fully loaded models. If you're here it may because you don't have a lot to spend at all but you really need to buy a reliable, simple new car.
Uncle Pluck got my RS 2014 four years ago for $13k with right over 13k miles. A couple little issues (and one little issue that took forever to nail down) but it’s fun to drive and with a tune it’s quick enough to stay ahead of a fiesta ST until well over the legal speed limit
Chevy needs to drop this sonic or keep it and use this platform to make a competitor aimed straight at the scion/toyota/subaru Frs/brz.. And shit even miata there is really no competition other than those for a good looking reasonably priced Rwd manual gearbox 2door "sports" coupe... Thats marketed for younger buyers or mature who would like a fun car or tuners even..which our whole generation is basically tuners idk about all those skinny jean wearing cats though
The BRZ/FRS are in a completely different category. Actually, the next generation Camaro will be more in line with those two cars. It will be lighter and likely offer a 4 cylinder option (like the 2015 Mustang). Chevy needs to keep the Sonic (it's a good seller), but they need to offer a more powerful engine without significantly raising the price in order for it to compete with the more agile Ford Fiesta ST.
well of course! the focus is in a different class all together. this thing compares with a fiesta like the ST version which is still sportier than the sonic. your focus comparison is way off though.
You are unfortunately correct :( Just got one last week. Price was alright and only had 30k clicks (Km's as I am from Canada). I ended up buying a very small usb that had 64Gb of space and plugging it into the built-in USB port above the glovebox. Saves a ton of space! This car has very little interior storage, which is a disappointment. The digital touchscreen interface and steering wheel volume/change/source controls makes it far more efficient than CDs at least. Just have to transfer them from CD onto your device.
Sonics are built in Lake Orion, Michigan. And Im pretty much a millennial and I was able to afford a 2015 Sonic at 22 years old....soooo...yea. You're wrong :)
cruzing: You are CORRECT the Sonic was designed and put together on GMs global build resources around the world and in the States. The Buick Encore is built on the same platform. I would say you have good taste and have your shit together enough to have a new car that is above average in quality and design and lets not forget about that 5 star safety rating.. You can't go wrong with chevy so I hope to see you posting here in a few years with a new Camaro.
Whitney Kokalis I bought the Sonic at 22. Traded it in and got a 2017 Cruze at 23. I love the Cruze and plan on keeping it for 2 or 3 then I wanna get a Malibu when I'm around 26
These small cars are a blast to drive. You feel more in control than heavy sedans and sport suv's.
Its not bad for those people who are looking for a sporty little econo box car, that would not care about 0 to 60 times or track performance. Its enough sportiness to keep them happy!
Am I the only one who absolutely loves the Sonic’s styling?
I mean it looks so good for such a small and affordable car 😊
Reminds me bumblebee 😅
They could have at least made the engine more powerful. To me this doesn't look like it's worth the added expense compared to an LTZ Turbo, as they had mentioned in the video.
The LTZ is a better buy. The RS is irrelevant compared to its competitors in the performance end of this segment. Too much money for too little.

EGGINFOOLS what do you expect
I got a sonic LTZ for my company car and I really enjoy it a lot great little car
Im a valet and i drove this car (aggressively) and its actually a ton of fun
I'm telling.
When i heard about this turbo engine I thought it was going to target the fuel economy fanatics. but once you see the interior of this car you can tell they are trying to go for the hot hatch market. With 60 hp less then its competitors; you gotta be a sucker to buy this over a Fiesta ST or GTI.
yup GTI is a whole other league
Test drive the LTZ and then come back here and make an INFORMED analysis.

I make pretty good money and I drive a big new diesel truck, but I kind of want one of these little guys.
up the boost. it needs 150hp-160hp, badly!
Or take the 1.6L from the Opel Corsa OPC, so it can compete with the Fiesta ST.
Eric Glueckert is the 1.6l 200bhp? thay would be awesome!
RMAGEDN740
Well the 1.6L from the Nurburgring Edition does have 200 hp but the regular OPC has 189 or so horsepower.
Its called trifeca tune brings power uo to 182hp 199 torq
the RS may cost more than the LTZ but once you option up the LTZ, you'll find that they are extremely similar. The RS has most of those options on the LTZ as standard
MrJab4309 rs has rear disk brakes
Ltz doesn't

wasn't this one of those Daewoo rebadges that was made in korea?
.
gm korea design gamma platform. made in many places. mine came from Orion Michigan.

I thought the Spark was the smallest Chevy.
looking at one of these, 2015 RS with 11k miles for 12k

Daewoo
I Want It!!
The Ford Focus ST is way better looking and more bad ass
St has almost 200 hp, not a fair comparo with the RS which has same hp as the turbo Sonic.
well of course! the focus is in a different class all together. this thing compares with a fiesta like the ST version which is still sportier than the sonic. your focus comparison is way off though.
Ford is junk
us car shows are really really bad
I heard this car has no cd player. Not cool.
because most people use their phones for music these days. CDs are kind on the way out the same as cassettes went bye bye lol

This isnt even American built. Its an Aveo. and what millennial can afford $20k?
that aint even nothing. you should see the car they have called the spark LMAO. the sonic is almost nice in comparison hahhahaha
you need to do some research, this is built in the US and starts at under 15K
