That segment about uncertainty about not knowing how much to offer up in meetings/overstepping/etc in a new work environment is so real! Since people who talk for the sake of talking seem to have more management visibility and "appear" more competent, I feel anxious that I'm doing myself a disservice by leaning more reserved when I'm not 100% confident in what I want to say. I always thought that feeling disappeared with seniority so it's a little comforting that this is a common experience.
There's definitely a fine line between putting yourself out there and not just talking to talk.... finding that balance is just trial and error! I think if you're 80% confident in what you want to say or asking a question (even if you feel it'll come across as "dumb" - truly think there's no such thing as dumb :P), go for it! But if you don't feel like what you'd say or ask would add value, that's ok too. From experience, I know eventually I'll find my footing - just giving grace during this transition period but totally a common experience for most of us!!
Great to see you Stephie! Changing your mind is totally normal and it shows you are growing and moving forward. I understand the shift of identity which was tie to your career. I can tell you that I celebrated a full year out of public accounting and I no longer feel the need to work the most, the longest, or the hardest. I am discovering having a life outside of work and finding other things that engage me and excite me besides work. Embrace this season, as things keep changing, send you success vibes and congratulations on your wedding!
Thanks for sharing your challenges and being vulnerable. Like you said in the video, give yourself grace, it’s only been 2 mo. I have a very similar background as you & found your video bec I was curious if there were any vlogs on a day of an internal auditor. 😂 I’m a Sr. Manager in SOX, was in big 4 then transitioned to industry. Left a company I was with for >15 years and went through exactly what you were talking about. Been at my current job for a year now and couldn’t be happier. Anyway, give yourself time and hope things will work out.
I relate to this. Im in a spot where i am working way to much and my health is suffering. For some reason i am having the hardest time trying to pull back. I guess im caught up in the rat race? Trying to make changes doesnt seem to be working even tho i tell myself i need to do it. Any tips on how u made this mental shift would b great!
Phewwwwww I'm still working through this too!! I was already thinking about "taking a step back" probably since early 2023 and only just took those steps now. It's still an adjustment and the first few months were especially hard. Unwinding the idea that you have to give 110% all the time... I'll chat about this soon for sure!
you should make videos on marriage (tips/advice) and wedding planning. thank you for always being open and honest
