  • Oil all over the top of the engine and you don't know where it is coming from? It is your Upper Timing Chain Cover Gasket leaking! In this video I show how to fix the oil leak common on Audi A4 A5 Q5 with the 2.0L TFSI engine.
    See below for links to buy the gasket and tools to fix it:
    Upper Timing Chain Cover Gasket set: amzn.to/3KK5lYL
    Permatex Ultra Black Gasket Sealer: amzn.to/3ogrWVk
    Right Angle Screwdriver tool with T30 Torx bit included! amzn.to/3MNEQEb
    The Camshaft Adjuster Magnet Seal O RING Elring 538.010: amzn.to/3WmWCRt

    UPDATE: Be sure to also replace the O-ring for the timing adjuster. I had a leak from the timing adjuster after this repair and it was because that o-ring was rock hard. Part 2 video is here: ruclips.net/video/PbGMI6Td3io/видео.html

    Thank you for this video. My wife's A4 has the oil pooling up in the same area and assumed it was the valve cover gasket. Just ordered the TC gasket and the O-ring from FCP Euro.
    I must say you won the lottery with that stripped screw. If it was me, it would've been the lowest least-accessible screw that stripped.

    That little torx tool was perfect, almost seemed like a life saver, for it. The funny thing is, the top torx which in theory should have been easier to remove, rather than the ones at the bottom or to the sides, was a PITA!!!
    You sir, are the definition of a DYIer.. Well Done!!!

    I did this same fix except I replaced the cover also. That little oil leak was so annoying. Hopefully your cover isn’t warped at all. Good job.

    My check engine light came on after this. Feeling restored engine power, changed PCV valve with this too. Any suggestions or concerns?

    Appreciate the video, definitely tackling this soon. Did you have to drain the oil or is there no need to?

    • @CarsandCoding
      @CarsandCoding  Год назад +2

      No need to drain oil. Make sure you watch part 2, you need to change the o ring also

    From experience when oil starts blowing past that gasket it could be the pcv valve going bad. The excess pressure causes the cover to expand and leak.

    • @CarsandCoding
      @CarsandCoding  Год назад

      I last changed my pcv in 2019 so might be time for a change! 3 years sounds about right to swap out just as basic maintenance.

      Hi, I have ea888gen3, I changed my pcv and I've noticed now that when I remove oil fill cap when car is at idle there is quite alot of suction (vacuum).. I was told this is normal, it shows the pcv is doing its job. Does this sound right to you as I never really noticed it b4 I changed as was sceptical of the vacuum..

      @@philpots3216 Mine does the same after changing the PCV. I used an OEM VW/Audi PCV. I have a 2015 A4 Avant with the third gen 1.8 TFSI

    Would this be considered the cam cover sealant? Or is that something completely different

    Audis are like oldschool cars got to keep dropping money into to them the only difference is oldschool cars keep there value and keeps going up if is a classic as for audis its drops like crazy😂

    Could leaking cover cause code P2187 (system too lean on idle) ?

    • @CarsandCoding
      @CarsandCoding  Год назад +1

      I have to say, maybe. I also had that code p2187 before I did this repair! But I didn’t know if it was due to this or from PCV valve so I also replaced PCV valve the same week. Unfortunately the PCV valve on these engines cause all kinds of issues and so I replace mine every 2 to 3 years and mine was due for replacement.
