At the end of the day, money does matter but it is not everything. If you are in a psu, you will be able to spend time with your family, work without any pressure and lead a healthy and happy life. Ultimately this is what most of us seek for. Wha t use is it when you are earning 1 crore but are under constant fear of who will take away your job.
look i am in state psu getting not much salary but i am in a position where i am getting enough time to help my wife in her entrepreneurship development which returns way more than my salary, and i am happy she is taking care of my family and remaining independent. I am thankful to my employer.

By 30, in IT your salary will be minimum 10 lpa. Let's say you work till 45. i.e. 15 years * 15 lpa (average)= 22500000 ~ 2 crore. Let's say you saved 1 crore. Do FD 1 crore, you will get 50k per month interest on average.

For mechanical engineering, PSU provides job security. If you climb up the ladder, say M.Tech your job opportunities get limited but still its fine you will end up in one MNC, if you move further for PhD, its even more tough to find a job with good salary pay. Considering the present state, students joining in mechanical engineering is reduced when compared to last 5 years, this is what reflecting even in no. of student taking GATE exam. In the present scenario, India does not have much research job, once after completing PhD from IIT, its even very tough to enter into NIT as a professor. You have to fight a lot to get bread and butter, which PSU easily offers. There is a age limit in ISRO and DRDO for scientist B post; Its very rare for an Mechanical engineer to complete PhD degree before 31.

sahi kaha bhai..meri cpsu ka closure hua aur 17 saal me officers rank ke bavjood only1 promotion, no revision and internal politics, curruptions..and final vrs mein bhi chutya banaya...akhir mein Welfare assiciation high court move kiya... in short life sucked!! ..my lifes wrong decision...
kabhi Psu join mat karna Agar Join kiya toh phir kabhi honest, aur loyal nahi rehna!!

during closure which has been taking place now, kai kai hazaro karod rupayye..do chaar chand log jaise ke, CFO, finance director, CmD, etc and someones from BHEL( responsible for closure procedure) hat liye ja rahe hai... yaha tak ki company ki Car laptop furniture bhi ghar leke ja rahe hai..sab kuch golmaal chal raha hai...kai lakho ki CNC machineries (brand new jiska inauguration bhi nahi hua) chand rupaiye me bech ke har ek milliinior ho gaya hai aur hamara career tabah kar abhi bhi hakk ki ladhai lad rahe hai.. ...isliye gindh aa rahi hai govt psu job se..!!

Lol...bhai civil and mechanical guys dont have other options. Even students from IIT/NITs are struggling for placements. Kehna aasan hai mnc pkd loo pr uske liyen job honi bhi chhaiyen mnc mai. Things are really bad for civil mechanical guys.

Sir a btech student (CSE )branch from a normal state governments college, currently in 1 year is preparing for IT jobs in big MNCs (whether on or off campus)
And apart from this he also want to give gate exam as a back up for PSU job from any core branch like mechanical civil electrical chemical etc. He is ready to work hard for both Placement and Gate too
What's your advice for him , should he go for both or choose one.
