Being from the country, as soon as I saw the back panel of the refrigerator on the patio/workspace, I knew this would be an authentic build. Good work!
A heat gun can be use to make the material pliable to close the gap on the sides. Also heat an lift the cut flange on the upper tank and creat a shelf around the shower for personals
Really nice clean build. I just made one much like that but I heated and reshaped the plastic to close up those two big holes and left the top flange an inch wider then heated and folded it around the bottom flange for a seamless watertight connection.The only downside is it's difficult to heat the plastic without darkening it at least a little, though i'll take that over cut edges and rivets any day. One little galv strap each side folded around the bottom flange between the two halves and screwed to the frame is all that hold the tanks to the frame. They are mainly there for support lost to the door opening. Not a single screw or strap need except on the door panel. I'd put mine up on youtube if the free totes I used weren't brittle-cracked and disgusting. They had some boat sealer crap in them that just doesn't want to come off in some areas because I can't scrape too hard without cracking the brittle plastic. I thought they were free when I got them at least. lol.
You did a great job on the door I'm going to use your ideas when I make my deer hunting blind I'm going to slip the top one down over just enough to get rid of that opening on the side Thank you
I did exactly the same late summer last year!!....it costs nothing,lets in daylight,is easy to clean,weighs nothing,is strong,will last forever....I hung a 40ltr waterheater on the outside (makes it want to tip over...) ...I use it every day!!!...(btw.....love your coiffure...) Nice one, hopefully I'll have a crack at this tomorrow if the weather permits. I think a jigsaw is probably a better tool to cut the plastic, it will leave a lot of little cutting fragments but you won't get any toxic fumes from burning the plastic.
The outside metal support grid enables you to spray close cell foam to insulate in summer/winter. Grade/sand to the metal to represent a smooth exterior. Lay some fiberglass on and you're complete. Add teak flooring strips and a compost toilet. Key thing, keep it in two sections for mobility

Thanks Sean! A gravity feed barrel would work well as long as you can support the weight of the barrel! I have used a shower head that is for low pressure water use and it seems to work well!

Love it... would love to see if you needed to seal between the two totes... some strips of plastic could also be used as a stop so the doors won't swing too far in... there are some plastic welding tools that may be interesting to work with, along with hot staples or silicone caulking...would love to see the drain... love the splitter to make the water combiner. A torch may also finish up the edges of the plastic also... it may warm the plastic enough to bend and secure the side plastic to fill the holes without those other pieces... I guess being outdoors a little leak is nothing too big with the cable tie holes ;-) ingenious!!
I’ve created a wood burning hot water heater many years ago it worked very well! I need to make another and show how I did it. I’ve been meaning to get around to doing this soon!

If you had a third tank, you could cut off the top and the bottom, leaving a height of maybe 6 to 10 inches in for each one, and somehow connect them together making a small tank to sit on top to store water in. The sun can heat that water stored on top which can be used to shower instead of connecting a hose.

The cage has been cut and lost all its stability. You don't want to put another IBC on Top, fill it with water and then take a shower under hundreds of pounds resting on a fragile structure...
The flushing toilet IBC is great idea! But for septic I’d go with the plastic 55 gallon one because of the strength. The IBC plastic is weak and could possibly collapse under a dirt load. I won’t rule it out and say it’s not possible cause it is possible!
Jay could I get the measurements for the shower. We need to replace two showers in my daughters mobile home. She is 5 feet and 10 inches tall. I need the inside measurements. We just don't have the money at current time to do a full remodel.

If you use a tote that is a 325 gallon tote (They are 6 inches taller than the 275 tote) you can cut off one metal bar leaving the taller totes plastic extending down an extra 6 inches.. Use this extra 6 inches to extend downwards over the outer edge of the 275 tote just like a lap siding on your house. rain water with flow over the outside edges of the lower tote.
another thing I forgot to mention is that when you put the 325 tote on top of the 275 tote you flip the 325 upside down leaving the forklift base ON TOP.. this forms a ridge so you can place a smaller third tank on top for solar heating water to shower or wash up with. you can mount a small solar panel with a solar DC powered water pump on it to fill top tank .. good luck.

Heat the plastic with a blow dryer to where it will bend into the shapes you need to cover those “dip” area holes, … convenient build, and I am going yo make a “pool” for my self to take a nice dip when it gets super hot outside, … adding the shower knobs to the backside, & then placing the drain at the rear corner would be a plus, … adding some of those plastic strips as shelves to hold rags, towels on the outside, & shampoo, conditioner, and soap would also be an easy build, … one just needs to see the build in his/her mind, and apply common sense, and WAHLAHH!!! A shower, tub, pool, for playtime, of in creating a garden area fed with the water from the skies, … can be fun as well as profitable too, … all types of uses from the “totes” markets, … I’d love to find some a bit larger than your shower project, .. but a bit of ingenuity can create pretty much anything needed to work as an overnight shelter if one is say hiking the Appalachian trail, or anywhere that there might be a need for shelter from the weather, or wild animals, … as long as they cannot get to you, lmbo!!!

That’s a good question. On top if you were to put anything directly on the plastic, if your thing is heavy, it would colapse the plastic. If you built say a framed out deck that fit over the metal, all the way around you could put some weight on it! The totes are designed to stack on top of each other when they have the pallet attached, so the deck you build could double as a pallet, yet most likely stronger, should work! I hope that answered your question!
Campervan Kevin The height on the inside is 6’ 7” at the corners, 6’ 4” after the plastic sags a bit toward the middle. I am 6’ 2” and it works just fine for me. The 275 gallon totes give you this height but if you were to use 300 gallon totes the height would be substantially better! At the time I purchased the totes 275 is all the guy had. I would not go any smaller than 275 gallon, the 250 gallon would be substantially smaller and guy my size and would not fit well!

I had considered that and it will most likely work. I went that way just for height. The next one I build I would like to get rid of the ledge and seal the two together! Not sure how yet
What if you eliminated all but about an inch lip so you can sandwich sealant between the two? Just enough to make contact, but not enough to really notice? I’m thinking about using this idea as an outhouse which is why I ended up finding your video. It’s so helpful to visualize it before doing it. The width on your door looks around 28”. Would that be near accurate? I’m hoping for 30” so I can use a screen door, but it is what it is I suppose. I’m doing a bathroom remodel so I’m plumbing to my outdoor septic intake. I have a previous toilet and figure water intake from spigot. A nice build. Thanks for sharing.
Kayla White such a good question! I found that one part water to one part bleach in a spray bottle works perfect! But I’m sure you could use any combination of cleaners! What tends to grow is algae from the sun and water trapped on the inside! I hope this helps answer your question! I plan on making a much more detailed version and video real soon ! it depends on how cold from the freezing temp you are and how long it's gonna stay frozen. That is just the tanks filled with water. after being made a shower then the water supply lines will be the only thing you would need to worry about.
You can use heat tape & wrap it around all the water lines. Follow that by wrapping aluminum foil around the water lines & then insulate them with wrap around foam. The wrap around foam can be pipe insulation or as simple as a pool noodle.
Yes it is flimsy without the cage! I had to drill extra holes in the side of the plastic that lined up with the cage and installed a few zip ties in a few places to keep it from settling down from having no support. If it is left outside water can build up on the top and cause it to sag! But not after adding the cable ties! You could have another support system built to help hold it up and not use the cage! 🤔 you have to do some thinking to make it work in a camper van. It’s because the gap that it naturally creates because the tanks aren’t perfectly square that makes them great for a outdoor setup.
I get what you’re thinking. Yes, it’s too flimsy, but you don’t need the cage if you already have walls. You must be willing to build it out and think of it like a durable lining for tubs and showers...

Kayla White such a good question! I found that one part water to one part bleach in a spray bottle works perfect! But I’m sure you could use any combination of cleaners! What tends to grow is algae from the sun and water trapped on the inside! I hope this helps answer your question!

do you need to stop these tanks from freezing when filled with water?
it depends on how cold from the freezing temp you are and how long it's gonna stay frozen. That is just the tanks filled with water. after being made a shower then the water supply lines will be the only thing you would need to worry about.
You can use heat tape & wrap it around all the water lines. Follow that by wrapping aluminum foil around the water lines & then insulate them with wrap around foam. The wrap around foam can be pipe insulation or as simple as a pool noodle.

Im thinking of using the plastic tank to make an inddor shower for a camper van.
Yes it is flimsy without the cage! I had to drill extra holes in the side of the plastic that lined up with the cage and installed a few zip ties in a few places to keep it from settling down from having no support. If it is left outside water can build up on the top and cause it to sag! But not after adding the cable ties!
You could have another support system built to help hold it up and not use the cage! 🤔 you have to do some thinking to make it work in a camper van. It’s because the gap that it naturally creates because the tanks aren’t perfectly square that makes them great for a outdoor setup.
I get what you’re thinking. Yes, it’s too flimsy, but you don’t need the cage if you already have walls. You must be willing to build it out and think of it like a durable lining for tubs and showers...
