Oh that's so cool you could do that in high school!! Yes, you should absolutely start your own shop - and if it's digital, there's really no overhead/shipping/etc. Just the listing cost of $0.20. Totally worth it, in my opinioin!

Is this something I have to do before I list on Etsy? Would each file format be a separate listing?
I always include all the formats with my listing. So I give the customer 5 files - EPS, SVG, DXF, PNG, PDF - in one listing. I don't have a video about it, but you can save all these either via the Save As feature or the Export > Export As feature.

I would go out on Etsy and find shops that sell similar products to the ones you want to sell, and see what their descriptions are like. This is what I did when I started my shop (of course, don't 'steal' their descriptions, write your own). :)

Thank you so much! For something like that, you can make it very clear when they can expect the files. Something like "please allow 2-3 business days for receipt of files." After you're done creating them, you would send them to the email address on file with Etsy (I do this for my custom files).

I actually don't do variations, but there's no need to worry about it - just double check your listing variations once you publish. You can always edit after publishing and fix anything that isn't correct. It's just a reminder message that the preview may not be accurate, but your listing should be correct.
Hi, do you have any advice on what to do if the seize of the file I am trying to upload is too large? It wont let me upload the posters I have made, but making them smaller will compromise the seize those posters could be printed at. Thank you!

You can do a reverse image search for your designs from time to time and then issue DMCA takedowns for the ones violating your terms...and you do have the right to sue if you think it's worth it!

Yes, it’s automatically sent once the payment goes through. For different sizes of photos, I would just specify in the listing what sizes you’ll provide and then upload each size. You get a maximum of five files, but you can have as many files as you want in a zip file (within a maximum file size)

Etsy provides it. So once the customer's payment goes through, they automatically get a link to download the files - you don't need to do anything extra! It's pretty sweet!

Thank you! For your questions: 1. I don't think so - unless you set it up as a physical product, you don't get many options. 2. I would just make separate listings for these.
It depends on what type of file you're wanting to sell. If you're uploading digital prints, you can have them at actual size (5x7, etc) and then 300 ppi. If you're selling vectors, it doesn't really matter because you can scale those to any size without losing quality.
You don't have to have a digital downloads shop - you can sell physical items on Etsy too, but they have to be handmade by you or vintage items (Etsy rules). People are interested in selling digital files because they can create a file once, then it sells multiple times with no extra work (no having to actually create a new product every time, no shipping, etc).

I was thinking about selling some of my better ideas this way, but do you think this could be a big problem if I ended up with a popular design, and is there any way to stop people from stealing a design?
Stealing does happen, but you can file copyright complaints with the site. I've had to do this a few times, and the sites are good about taking down the design.
Unfortunately, it's a risk you take. You can watermark your thumbnails, but someone who knows what they're doing can usually get around that. I've found that most people in the world are honest, though, and just pay for it.
After they buy, the files are automatically available to them - they can download immediately (in most cases). If it's a custom listing, I just made a video about that (best practices) - ruclips.net/video/fm_qiXoc55o/видео.html
I'm a little confused about the fee per listing. Can you clarify... so, say I have 1 item. I list on the backend I have 100 of them. is Etsy charging .20 for every one of the 100 or is this item considered one listing? I hope this makes sense.

Hi Anne, A very thorough explanation! The $0.20 cents you mention is only a one time listing cost for all four months? So basically, you can sell as many times an item just for a $0.20 cents during those four months and continue to pay $0.20 each four months in the future? If it sells before the four months, since this is downloadable product you have to pay $0.20 again?

If you don't have a balance, they will go on the credit card you added. If you have a balance (from other sales), they will be taken from that.

I'm not sure about .rar, but .zip works well. That's what most people use when doing more than 5 files.

You can host them on a different site (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc), and have people download a PDF with the link.

You could upload them to Dropbox or Google Drive, then in the Downloads section, add a PDF with a clickable link to that location.

Can you add a digital listing through the app/iPad instead of a computer?
You can add a digital listing through iPad but NOT using the app. You would just need to go to Etsy.com through a regular browser.

What quality or file size should your images be when you upload them to Etsy?
It depends on what type of file you're wanting to sell. If you're uploading digital prints, you can have them at actual size (5x7, etc) and then 300 ppi. If you're selling vectors, it doesn't really matter because you can scale those to any size without losing quality.

Yes, that's exactly what happens. Once they're payment goes through, Etsy automatically releases the files. :)

That sounds right to me, though it’s been a few years since I registered. They are just making sure you are you and there’s no ID theft going on. :)

Let’s say you create a birthday invitation card. You post it to sell and customer can print in home printer or staples as soon as they pay.
You don't have to have a digital downloads shop - you can sell physical items on Etsy too, but they have to be handmade by you or vintage items (Etsy rules). People are interested in selling digital files because they can create a file once, then it sells multiple times with no extra work (no having to actually create a new product every time, no shipping, etc).
Thanks for the info! I noticed that you put in your terms that you don’t want people taking your design for a print-on-demand site... I was thinking about selling some of my better ideas this way, but do you think this could be a big problem if I ended up with a popular design, and is there any way to stop people from stealing a design?
Stealing does happen, but you can file copyright complaints with the site. I've had to do this a few times, and the sites are good about taking down the design.

Unfortunately, it's a risk you take. You can watermark your thumbnails, but someone who knows what they're doing can usually get around that. I've found that most people in the world are honest, though, and just pay for it.

I'm a little confused about the fee per listing. Can you clarify... so, say I have 1 item. I list on the backend I have 100 of them. is Etsy charging .20 for every one of the 100 or is this item considered one listing? I hope this makes sense.
It's considered 1 listing. If you sell one and relist the other 99, you're charged another $ 0.20.
Hi, I’m trying to sell digital art portraits on Etsy and since the portraits are going to be personalized, how do I upload a file of it before publishing? Am I just supposed to put a file from one of the pictures I have as samples or do I skip that part, publish, and submit the file when the buyer has paid? Really great and informative video btw!

You'll put the watermarked images in your Photos/pictures section. You'll put the un-watermarked files in the files section at the bottom.

So basically, you can sell as many times an item just for a $0.20 cents during those four months and continue to pay $0.20 each four months in the future? If it sells before the four months, since this is downloadable product you have to pay $0.20 again?

It will be after you upload the picture/design. If you don't have any sales, Etsy will charge your credit card, I believe.

Yes, it's more like $0.20/new listing (it happens at the beginning of a new listing), but the idea is the same!

I have an instruction sheet with pictures and illustrations on how to make a fleece blanket, It is 4 pages. My question is once I download the 4 pages I'm hoping that they will just see the cover photo,( the thumbnail) then when they pay they will get and be able to see the other 3 pages. Is this correct?
Yes - that's correct! The photos area is completely separate from the downloads section, so that would work.
